Max is too young, he's survived the apocalypse yet it looks like it's been long enough to become cartoon level post-apocalyptic. Nothing against Hardy , Max just would have been cooler if he were older and more grizzled, and it might have fit the character's silent nature better.

the behind the scenes videos are amazing

I'm convinced cgi isn't even a cheaper option, Fury Road had comparatively less budget than other block busters and they had 6 months in the desert doing real stunts. Hollywood is just lazy.

There seems to be some interference in the script though.

Probably it went like this - Miller approves script->feminazi editor inserts feminism->Miller modifies it a little bit and this is the final version. George is liberal himself but not that much of it.

The hint here is the reasoning behind the escape - they're running away because Immortan would have kids with them and that's evil because... well it's evil, man having kids with woman and not leaving them to be single mothers is evil(this reasoning is especially visible with his favourite wife who was already pregnant). That's it, that's all there is. If the person who gave this idea wasn't blinded by her daddy issues so much, they would at least make Joe have some terrible kink that makes this little bit more believable.
>>81216456
Nobody cares about Max until he takes off the mask, which is the exact opposite of what would I expect from Tom Hardy's character.
>>
>>81217133
The chick that made the vagina monologues helped guide the actresses and script.
>>
Immortan Joe wasn't a great villain, not nearly as good as The Humungus or Toecutter. Max felt too much like a side character, despite his lack of lines in The Road Warrior, he still had plenty of presence, which was missing here. Tom Hardy was also not a good choice for Max.

Otherwise, it's excellent.

She was on set for 7 days out of 7 months. She had no impact on the script and was only there because she was a friend of Miller and had worked with actual sex slaves in the Congo. She worked with the wives-actors for character guidance or whatever.

This fact was a footnote in a bunch of production stuff, but got memed into bizarre proportions by idiot MRA's. The outrage naturally lead to journalism reporting on it, which lead to a genius marketing campaign by WB: pretend it was feminist all along. MRA's were boycotting the movie (and thier Presance was magnified by 1000x by every news outlet using the same blog post as a source and vaguely claiming large numbers) so feminists wernt skeptical of the pandering, if the enemy hated it, it must by good. So after seeing the movie, they justified everything they saw as feminist and cut down anyone saying otherwise, they even turned on Anita Sarkesian who didn't like the movie very much, but got shit from her own supporters when she said so. Once a narrative is established its very hard to change it.

I'd say WB faked the outrage, but the guy who's blog was reposted everywhere had an account lasting years, so him being a plant is unlikely.

Funny thing is: before all this happened the first trailer was called sexist because they assumed Max would be saving a bunch of "Victoria secret models" and the story would be typical damsel in distress.

The script was written in 1997 by Miller on a plane ride from Sydeny to LA and barely changed at all since. So unless your going to claim a 70 year old man is an SJW, your claims are meaningless.

1 is Max's story through and through.

2 is the same as Fury Road except there's no singular character as present as Furiosa, but it's still Max reluctantly helping some people and ending up alone in the desert at the end. In both movies the Villian has no qualms with Max, except a minor bad guy having a bit of a rivalry.

> not showing Gas Town or Bullet Farm

Agreed, especially since the artwork they did was pretty cool. But extended scenes there would have killed the pacing, quick scenes of People Eater/Bullet Farmer noticing the flares and readying thier war-parties would have been cool, but not enough to justify building the sets sadly.

People Eater had amazing characterisation for someone with 4 lines.

> obese
> elelphantitas leg
> torn business suit
> overly concerned with the material loss of the adventure
> nipple rings connected to a chain that he plays with
> ornate fake nose
> o-face when he runs over that girl (also takes the wheel so he can do it himself)

I always wondered what he meant when he said "we must protect the assets". Was he saying remember not to shoot the wives, or was he telling Bullet Farmer not to waste anymore precious bullets. Both interpretations go completly ignored though, since he fires all the ammunition he has blindly into the night hoping to hit the right people.

Bullets and Gas are useless if you don't have any food or water. The Citadel was inpenertratable if the lifts were up (the bits that mattered anyway). Trading makes perfect sense. They seem to be in a "military" pact as well, since niether People Eater or Bullet Farm give a shit about Joes runaway wives, but they still turn up and lend thier armies.

I don't think either other town used War Boys. None of thier guys wear white paint or do the paint huffing stuff.

CONSIDERING A POST APOCALYPTIC FUTURE the wives had absolutely everything they could need to survive, and live, better than the other 99.999% of the population.
The reason for them to escape was stupid, and them just returning there was stupid as well.
>>
>>81216456
All the frame-skipping done as a failed attempt to fix the incorrect camera settings in post-production. Normal 24fps is bad enough already. This is so bad it's impossible to focus on the story because you're so frequently being distracted by the terrible motion quality. It's not even consistently bad, it varies from scene to scene, so you can't get used to it.

>They seem to be in a "military" pact as well
This seems to be the important bit. One thing that bugged me was that People Eater and Bullet Farmer were dismissing the whole chase as dumb, when really they should have been concerned about getting the War Rig back. I don't know how many geo-political threats the Triumvirate was facing beyond the Buzzards, but the War Rig was clearly a vehicle designed to project force. Look how it is introduced: it is the center of a battle group surrounded by escorts, like a carrier group in our world. It can carry weapons or men or supplies, and is shown to be able to take on an entire armada of lesser vehicles by itself with a good crew.

If we ever get a sequel, I want pic related to be a proper "Carcraft carrier" instead of a salvage vehicle

>>
>>81223415
An armored tractor trailer (or better yet, an Aussie-style road train) that serves as a launch and recovery vehicle for smaller scouts would be GOAT.

Remember that George Miller originally envisioned a vehicle for Joe's fleet that was a converted diesel locomotive riding on mining truck tires.

That would be a perfect power source for the car-craft carrier.

we've come so far that max eats double-headed lizards and turns into sir gruntsalot without even for one second matching the charismatic performance mels delivered with his interpretation over 30 years ago

what a wonder also that whereas in road warrior everyone was hunting for gas because it was so rare and precious here this seems to be not an issue. even less so considering that the villain has a party bus in his entourage with a freak who plays a flame-shooting guitar. and all of the characters drive through the desert for days because re-fuiling is of no concern. gasoline seems to exist aplenty. water not so much, therefore the baddie advises not to get addicted to it. like you can go without i

the digital look of the film, combined with its use of CGI, makes it easily the ugliest film in the series maybe even of this year. the plot a plot? is basically non-existent and where it shimmers through (like zoe kravitz nipples through her shirt) it just proves to be ludicrous, in a film that feels like three hours because it's that repetitive. this is man of shit all over again: one action scene that we have to watch over and over and over. they're driving, shooting, explosions, driving, explosions, shooting, driving, shooting, explosions. after 45 minutes I struggled to keep my eyes open and awake due to it's lack of anything interesting

I think everyone is in agreeance on that one.

When you feel the need to cry, tear your hair out, and spew hatred at the worldline we are forced to live in, remember that Fury Road pre-production began around 1995-1996. All the concept art from that era looked 100% unchanged from what we actually saw on screen.

Now, imagine Fury Road releasing as originally planned, in 1998-1999:
>The Patriot-era Mel Gibson is Max
>The stuntwork and special effects are 100% practical, done to the quality seen in Waterworld, Con Air, etc and actually "get" the homage.
>Furiosa is seen on screen at a time when twenty-somethings still know/read/understand Tank Girl.
>The Doof Wagon, rather than being adorably anachronistic, is seen at the time when Lollapalooza and the Woodstock revivals were still a thing, and Pantera as well as numetal/industrial metal were all filling the charts.
>The feminist angle isn't pushed so hard by the studios/press, and the wives are seen/portrayed more as Heavy Metal-style badass babes a-la Auntie Entity and Pa'u Zhaan from The Road Warrior.
>etc etc etc.

I wonder how many people who bitched about Max's role in this movie have actually seen Mad Max and Road Warrior.

Max is the main character of the first movie for the last 40 minutes. Nobody watching the movie until that point would think that he was the main character. In Road Warrior, he had the exact same role that he has in Fury Road.

An easy way to tell that somebody has never seen the first two movies would be them bitching about Mac's role as a supporting protagonist.

Did you see where I said
>by the studios/press

The feminist angle was nonexistent, and the characters were no different from Auntie Entity or The Warrior Woman. It's just that in 1999, that would be allowed as-is, without the blog and "fan site" shilling that we have now.

Remember that in 1999, Episode I was what a "CGI shitfest" looked like.

A lot of characters had arcs, just because it's done through visual storytelling instead of verbal doesn't mean it isn't there.

>Max holds up the crew and tries to steal the car
>Furiosa and Max fight and generally dislike each other
>Furiosa trusts Max out of desperation to see them through the canyon.
>Max's opinion eventually means enough to her to make her warrant going back the way they came.
>Eventually Max gives his own blood to Furiosa.to save her life.

>Nux is a war boy that fights constantly for Immortan Joe
>Tries time and time again to defeat Furiosa
>Fails over and over, finally failing in front of the Immortan himself
>He believes himself locked out of the gates of Valhalla, finds comfort in the red head chick.
>Most likely inside her red head vagina
>He becomes friends with the crew over the movie, eventually sacrificing himself to save the others.

Even Max's boot had a story arc that also connects with the rest of the crew, like how Max trusts and likes Nux enough to bring him back a boot.
