She turns into a "current year" sort of person as the show goes on. Tony makes it pretty clear that he wants his relationship with his children to be an idyllic version of what he had growing up, i.e. like 1950's leave it to beaver type, which is funny b/c his childhood was nothing like that.

On an unrelated note I like watching this show while remembering that everyone is a bad person and lies almost all of the time.

As much of a "current year" person Meadow was the whole time, I think she might actually be one of the very few good people in the whole show. As in, she was true to her beliefs, no matter how much I personally hated them, and wasn't kneecapping some shop owner for not paying their dues.

Yeah, largely you're right, other than trying to score drugs from Chrissy by manipulating him. I was more referring to how I think the first watch through has a lot of people trying to empathize with Tony and his crew. It took me a while to really get a grasp of how terrible they were, entertaining violence aside. In the same vein, I don't think there's anything really objectionable about Dr. Melfi either.

The reason why Melfi is shown to be good is that she doesn't tell Tony about the guy who raped her. She knew that she has the power to get revenge on this guy but she doesn't go through with it.

Not to mention that Meadow is a spoiled fucking brat. She pursues a wholesome career though in the end. She's a much more moral character compared to AJ (who I don't think is evil just useless).

I don't think she is going to be a mob lawyer. She's shown a really strong interest in helping disadvantaged people who can't afford representation from volunteering at legal aid. I wouldn't be surprised if Chase pictured her she ending up at a big firm that handles a lot of pro bono cases. It also makes her totally independent of her parents money.

She is as much as a hipocrite and selfish as anyone else in the family, albeit not quite at vicious at her core. While she acts the sympathetic bleeding heart when it's convenient, she also fervently defends her father's business, which she knows the true nature of. She shows sympathy for the empoverished, but it seems to be more of an attempt to mold her identity than an actual concern. She gets upset when her family displays casual racism, yet condones her father's affairs which she knows leads to murder and misery.

She is also a petulent child and a so called "daddy's princess" who needs things to go her way. She simply must make a cake for her grandfather's birthday despite the logistical problems that arise because of it. She does this simply to impress everyone how she excells at cooking, also why she wants her parents to visit their student apartment. But her mother is left to clean up the aftemath, much like when Meadow was a child. She is congenial for the most part, but that is a facade that cracks quickly when she doesn't get what she wants. She becomes very acerbic and belligerent toward her mother when they are out dining, at one point.
