Best film of 00s after Mullholand Drive imo
>written and directed by Gus Van Sant. It takes place in the fictional Watt High School, in the suburbs of Portland, Oregon, and chronicles the events surrounding a school shooting, based in part on the 1999 Columbine High School massacre.
FYI My top 10 of 2000-2009:
1. Mulholland Drive (David Lynch)
2. Elephant (Gus Van Sant)
3. Tropical Malady (Apichatpong Weerasethakul)
4. The Host (Bong Joon-ho)
5. A History of Violence (David Cronenberg)
6. The Secret of the Grain (Abdellatif Kechiche)
7. Tie Xi Qu: West of the Tracks (Wang Bing)
8. War of the Worlds (Steven Spielberg)
9. The New World (Terrence Malick)
10. Ten (Abbas Kiarostami)

>1. Mulholland Drive (David Lynch)
Lynch is a pleb in disguise, and MD is his biggest ruse of them all.
>2. Elephant (Gus Van Sant)
Quality.
>3. Tropical Malady (Apichatpong Weerasethakul)
Meme director, but i can see why people like him, completly pleb resistant as well.
>4. The Host (Bong Joon-ho)
>5. A History of Violence (David Cronenberg)
Lol wtf?
>6. The Secret of the Grain (Abdellatif Kechiche)
Seems to be a depression meme, but I'll look more into it, thanks!
>7. Tie Xi Qu: West of the Tracks (Wang Bing)
Are you memeing? You haven't even seen this movie
>8. War of the Worlds (Steven Spielberg)
lolwut
>9. The New World (Terrence Malick)
>10. Ten (Abbas Kiarostami)
Quality films.
Your taste is all over the place, evne if I'm forgiving. This is like the tier list in the Harry Potter copypasta
tropical malady over all of his films from the 00s?
you must be gay
elephant is a 10/10. I'd place it higher than Mulholland Drive
How the hell do Iranians get their kids to actually act?

he stole the entire aesthetic from the original short film.
it's good but it's far from original.
Elephant is a very good movie, I'd go 8/10. True elementary school kino.

After watching the laughable Paranoid Park, I'm extremely skeptical of a Van Sant portrayal of high school.
>FYI My top 10 of 2000-2009:
Fucking fascinating.
No its pretty shitty
Elephant is trash and Zero Day is better.

Paranoid Park is good up untilthe corpse reveal. that looked pretty silly.

They beat them
It has some pretty misguided themes within it. Sant falls into the same "video games cause violence" mantra as other reactionaries of the era, and conveys it laughably bad at times.
>>81171549
Actually he snapped because he was shit at piano
>DUDE EVERYONE IS SECRETLY GAY IN MY MOVIES LMAO
Yes Gus, we get it, you're gay. Get over yourself...
>>81171549
The film is a critique of that kind of thinking.
>>81167414
Elephant isn't a bad film. It has some ideas and nice moments, but formally it isn't especially interesting, and narratively it's a no-go. Your top ten list is a bit too hipster to be taken seriously.

>The film is a critique of that kind of thinking.
I thought Rob Ager's take on it was pretty thorough and adequately showed that it did fall into that same line of thinking. Sant himself even said he quit playing video games as a result as well.

They weren't gay.

Panahi's "Taxi" is the superior "studio in a taxi cab" kino
funny how he half-stole the concept from kiarostami
>>81171814
When will he make a movie shot on a cell phone of himself masturbating to pass the time away?
>>81171783
>Rob Ager
Seriously? That guy is nuts. Elephant is a movie about assumptions people make, not a morally righteous "video cause violence" soapbox.
>>81171909
Elephant is about how Benny was a fucking retard
Seriously what the hell was he thinking?
