There were two Trainspotting books and a ton of material from the first book that never made it on screen. Danny Boyle has been saying for at least a decade that he planned on a sequel made from that material.

The original trainspotting is a drama, but the comedic moments there take up a lot of the running time. I guess you could call it a black comedy of sorts. Spud catapulting diarrhea unto the unsuspecting family has to be one of the funniest moments in film ever.

Saw it last night and thought it was great. The original is one of my favourite films so I tried to keep my expectations moderate but I left feeling pretty satisfied. I also went for a nice walk today while listening to the first movie's soundtrack.

Now I want to read the books.

It's really good
It could never be as good as the original but it's more than serviceable. It tells such a good, relevant story without just rehashing the first film in a more modern setting

Nah, plenty of Americans know about Trainspotting. I just don't think many of them are interested in seeing a sequel to a movie that doesn't feel like it needs a sequel.

I personally didn't even know this movie was out. Although I'm not that interested in seeing it either, as Danny Boyle hasn't made a decent movie since Trainspotting. I'd rather wait for it on video.

The beginning was pretty slow and weak, it didn't have "any punch" like the first movie but by the end of it I was crying.
