What's your favorite Italian movie?
>>81134174
Also such a shame they didn't have the budget for the original vision which was the movie set in a alternate post ww2 where the Axis had won WW2.
Well at least we got to see some futurism
also muh Giuliano Gemma
Why are Italians so amazing at kino?
Bruno Mattei the mad man
Too much talent, too many names, not enought time.

>black leather gloves stabs a woman repeatedly
STOP SELLING BLACK LEATHER GLOVES
>>81134410
What did Dario mean by this?
I prefer the way people act and look in a lot of Italian movies probably because I am from southern europe.
I remember watching some italian black comedy
Main character was some shitposter who made up some bullshit story about how he went up some tower and starter shooting at the Germans
Anybody got any idea?
>>81134443
>American remake
>not in Technicolor
>bland cinematography
>probably PG-13
>no Goblin soundtrack
>staring Chloe Grade Moretz
What did Hollywood mean by this ?
>>81134800
It was a mistake.
>>81134443
This.
Black Angel, mostly because of Gabriel Garko.

Any Giallo where the camera follows two black leather gloved hands as they strangle attractive females
and then the ending reveals that the killer was just two floating sentient hands
The Good The Bad and The Ugly.
>>81134174
Bud Spencer and Terrence Hill thread?
this movie's cinematography was honestly Oscar worthy. Have any of you seen it?
>modern director loves Giallo
>tries to do a modern version of it
>its awful as its just masturbatory visuals with no substance.
Poliziotteschi > Giallo > NeoRealism
fight me Italian Cinemá aficionados
>>81136193
Can't have giallo without some dank mystery and soundtrack
>that beach scene with the eternally youthful waiter contrasted with his worn out, aged self

>>81136417

>>81134267
I know its suppose to be a "Sci Fi" film but i never got what that would even add to the film.
why is italy so kino overload?
>>81136474
>Bertolucci makes use of the 1930s art and decor associated with the Fascist era: the middle-class drawing rooms and the huge halls of the ruling elite.
Indeed it does.
>>81134174
Tenebre is my favourite but All The Colors Of The Dark is great and Edwige Fennech is seriously beautiful
>>81136489
>r got what that would even add to the film.
Futurism overload and cool uniforms.
>>81136193
the modern world is too polished and sophisticated to do a successful giallo.
gore porn in general feels a little played out too.
the Maniac remake is a really good throwback though. Hopefully that the newe Suspiria retains some of that supernatural noir.
>>81136635
>modern world
I never understood why they just don't set the movies in the 60-80s and be done with it. So they don't have to bother with the whole smartphone shit but eh
When these giallo flicks came out were they well reviewed or just considered trash?
also what are some good Italian Sci Fi films? Ive seen Star Crash
One of the best scores of all time imo.
>>81136691
cause then it would be too obvious an imitation instead of trying to do something new and relevant.
Argento actually did some good stuff in the nineties though.
>>81136711
>Sci Fi
Sci-Fi kino is more of a British thing
>>81136846
Tobe Hooper is American
>>81136711
It varied by director and film.
>>81134459
yeah one of my favourites. Currently writing about Antonioni and futurism and I had originally intended to look at the trilogy+this, but there's so much in Deserto Rosso that I'll probably just stick to it as a single case study
>>81134310
unironically fascism. They pumped a lot of money into the Italian film industry in the 20s and 30s which meant that there was infrastructure in place, plus lots of jobs and experience for the guys who would later become the neorealist generation and beyond.
>>81136826
Mean the horror genre as a whole. With cellphones left and right everywhere something like the original Halloween just doesn't work you know?
>>81136691
I like when they don't explain when the film is taking place so you don't ask to many questions (ex: Why don't they have cell phones) without it just being a retro flick
>>81136878
It was a British production and screams britbong shit all over it.
It's a toss up between Nostos and l'Albero degli zoccoli
>>81136711
Contamination Italian-West German co-production
Paolo "based god" Sorrentino is, without a doubt, my favorite director
>>81136711
Nirvana by Salvatores is quite cyberpunkish, predating Matrix by a bit.
>>81134174

>>81136711
Some were well reviewed (Bava) some other were considered trash and gained a cult status once the director died, being rediscovered and revalued by most critics (Fulci for example)
>also what are some good Italian Sci Fi films?
The Last Man on Earth
Morel's Invention
The Seventh Victim
Not one of the best, but still really really fun and well made. One of the earliest Giallo's is in here, Boris Karloff in a beautifully shot wurdelack story and one hell of a creepy witch/ghost story.
Combine all that with the intro and outro scenes with Karloff, including pulling back to show the crew members running by him holding up branches as he sits on a fake horse to simulate horseback riding and it's one hell of a fun film.
Also, besides ones mentioned here "Torso" and "Mad Dogs" are great films.
Pretty good film with a simple premise and set almost entirely in a car.
>>81138222
Shit I had the wrong title >>81138035
"Rabid Dogs", yes. So I can confirm, this anon is correct, very good film.
>>81137411
this, no contest
>>81136189
My nigga. Just watched it this past October. The cinematography and color was off the charts. There has never been a more beautiful movie about women getting murdered.
Also for anyone interested TCM is playing this movie Sunday 4am tomorrow.
>>81134708

>>81137317
