Source? Because unless there's some sort of study staying this, you're taking out of your ass. At best, id give it a "some of those plants might have helped us get cures to some diseases faster than we go them without".

The point I'm trying to make is that you have to assign a value to that potential. If, say, a deforestation project that will provide lumber for 50 thousand houses will result in the destruction of that mosquito, you would have to make the argument that the small potential for human benefit is worth more than the very clear and known benefit from causing it's extinction.

I like operating in the very likely-certain area over "what ifs". I believe just about everyone does when push comes to shove.
