Assuming they extract clean water from the air, it might be cheaper/easier than building a collection and treatment system.

The idea that Jyn's mother (or any mother) would abandon her very young daughter to fend for herself so she could die in a completely impotent and suicidal rescue attempt came off as so contrived that it immediately took me out of the movie.

I love Ben Mendelsohn, and wish he'd gotten to shine through more in the rest of the film like he does here
