that's fucking retarded senpai , bobbie was never 'earth is the enemy' she made one semi-anti-earther remark to some dude while patrolling ganymede and mostly martian marines were gossiping about the earth ones and giving them nicknames , they had no animosity towards them.

its mostly agoraphobia of wide open spaces for martians , not the gravity\light . bobby loses her shit the moment she realizes she's outside without a dome\suit over her and a UN guard roasts her for being BTFO by the atmosphere.
>>
>>81057129
Its probably a combination of it all.

Constant dragging gravity, a constant very bright light. Open spaces without a suit or dome. Combine that with the stress of being there in the first place.

There are at least 9 books written or planned. You think Syfy wlll allow a show to go on that long?

Don't even bother getting invested.

Even when it was SciFi, the longest shows ever ran for was 4 seasons.

Hope you faggots enjoy reading.

>>
>>81068752
Why does SyFy like cancelling shows so much?

They haven't given a proper run since BSG.
>>
>>81068822
BSG had NBC supporting it, thus decent actors.
Shows are cancelled for monetary reasons. Making it must cost less than the ad revenues it pulls. They cut costs by using canadian subsidies a lot. Canada goes along to show off the technical capabilities of its studios for big budget movies. So no ratings and end of subsidies are what kills the shows, especially if WWE pulls in the same viewers.
Netflix does a better job since it knows WHO is watching (and thus paying subs). That's why something like Hemlock Grove could last so long.
>>
>>81068786
9 planned, 6 out. (7th soon)
>>
>>81068822
>>81069082
They didn't even really give BSG a proper run. I think the showrunner wanted it to go on longer, but Sci-Fi wanted to wrap things up as it was an expensive show.

The writers strike did a lot of damage to many tv shows too, including BSG.

Pretty slow episode. Bobby fell down, hopefully someone can be fucked making a webm of that. Ganymede is fucked which means the belt and mars are going to be more dependant on earth for food fucking dumb OPA gangers, earth has the technical readout of vomit zombie 2.0 but we still don't know what government, if any, is backing protogen. Space beer comes in cans. Amos would be a kindergaten teacher if they let him near children. Errinwright almost cried when he found out mommy already knew all his secrets, heh. Apparently the water on earth is not so fucked as that one guy said.

Mars locking down Ganymede could support the argument they they are trying to hide evidence or that they are trying to investigate.

People living in space.

There's just no economic activity that would make it a profitable industry. There is no material in the universe worth more than the rocket fuel and vehicle that it takes to get it down.

Also don't they have some magic fusion torch that wouldn't ever work? 9m/s acceleration or some shit?
>>
>>81077909
Yeah, they don't really explain the magic drive except by saying it exploited some previously unknown physical phenomena. Better than waiting years for the story to progress.

By the way the people in the belt are treated it seems it was economically viable, just. It isn't like they are throwing money at it for lulz, they were pinching pennys left right and centre. Presumably there were conditions that occured in this future universe that made mining on earth more expensive. Mars wasn't for the economic return it was to reduce the existential risk of humanity kicking it when earth did.
>>
>>81078088
>Better than waiting years for the story to progress.
A competent writer would have events take place within a realistic framework.

>Presumably there were conditions that occurred in this future universe that made mining on earth more expensive.
The economy would grind to a halt if space resources were the only economical option.

>Mars wasn't for the economic return it was to reduce the existential risk of humanity kicking it when earth did.
What an idiotic assertion. As if Mars would be any more safe if an asteroid hit it.

How are people even living on mars? Magic terraforming? Like the magic that allowed them to spin up ceres without destroying it?
>>
>>81075658

>A competent writer would have events take place within a realistic framework.
But then it wouldn't be a space opera, it would be a western or something.

>The economy would grind to a halt if space resources were the only economical option.
It probably isn't. Not only the cheapest source of resaurces are utilized today, why would it be any different in the future. Industries are made of multiple companies exploiting different stratergies, some of them take advantage of more than just economic leverage to make it worthwhile. Like plotical and social.

>What an idiotic assertion. As if Mars would be any more safe if an asteroid hit it.
Dude... The point is that if an astreroid hit earth and wiped everyone out the would still be a future for the earthlings on mars (maybe they are not up to that point yet in the expanse but they are getting there). Likewise if mars was hit earth would still be fine.

>How are people even living on mars? Magic terraforming? Like the magic that allowed them to spin up ceres without destroying it?
No, they are living in sealed self-contained domes and tunnels. It isn't terraformed yet and isn't going to be for a long long time.

>Dude... The point is that if an astreroid hit earth and wiped everyone out the would still be a future for the earthlings on mars (maybe they are not up to that point yet in the expanse but they are getting there). Likewise if mars was hit earth would still be fine.

1. It is monumentally cheaper to redirect earth-intercepting asteroids than it is to have a permanent human habitation on mars.

2. If something got through and hit the earth we'll probably be fine because the oceans are great at absorbing everything but planet-killers and the surface is mostly ocean. Mars does not have this luxury, any asteroid hits that and you can kiss any and all colonies goodbye.

3. A GRB would destroy both, so ultimately you're just wasting money on an ineffective romantic scheme.

>No, they are living in sealed self-contained domes and tunnels. It isn't terraformed yet and isn't going to be for a long long time.
So all food has to be grown hydroponically and mars somehow has an economy? Good lord, what is with science fiction and completely ignoring economics for the sake of a hackneyed plot?

It sucks to see that such a highly lauded show is just another rocketpunk anachronism.

That is just pedantic. I was talking about planet threatening existential threats, extreme global warming, massive ass cancer plagues etc. The whole point is that we don't know what is coming and should diversify our population.

>2.
Absolutely irrelevant.

>3. A GRB
A what?

>So all food has to be grown hydroponically and mars somehow has an economy?
No they aren't up to that point yet. As stated in the show when directly reffering to the progress of the terraforming project, to their continued exploitation of the belt and peace with earth. Once again you are projecting you black and white expectations of the world on everything you see.

Have you heard of the no true scostman argument? Because are are inflicting a textbook case of that on this thread.
>>
>>81062684
Holden was just cruising through life on the cant. He came from a sheltered privileged (really, no memeing) background and is basically going through his college phase in this series. After getting discharged from the military he decided to get away from it all by signing up to a space truck and basically disregarding any non-essential so he could sleep around. Suddenly there is only girl in his life.
>>
>>81078625
>Well I thought "hardness" of scifi was more of a scale but if you say so.
It is. Hard Sci Fi and Space Opera are at opposite ends of the scale. Hard Sci Fi never ignores reality for plot, while space opera never ignores plot for reality.

>Google frakking dude. That shit is marginal.
Yes and we desperately need those resources and it's hard to get them cheaper than fracking can achieve.

>That is just pedantic. I was talking about planet threatening existential threats, extreme global warming, massive ass cancer plagues etc. The whole point is that we don't know what is coming and should diversify our population.
>diversify
Oh jeeze. Well let me break it down for you: You can't stop it. Plagues could happen to both planets via trade, global warming isn't a big deal, etc etc. There is nothing we can do to prevent our inevitable extinction.

Yeah it isn't a magic bullet. You realize this is a big part of why eg Elon Musk wan't to get to Mars? It solves some things from wiping out all life, it isn't magic. You should be glad!

>Gamma Ray Burst.
Yeah well to not get wiped out by something like that we would have to span multiple systems. You have to walk before you run.

>How did mars rebel without a food source?
It isn't covered by there is no damage or people butthurt about dead relavitevs so I am assuming it was mostly negotiating backed with posturing and resulting in a divided up belt.

Because if you start an extraterrestial colony to protocet against the case where earth is destroyed, an astreroid that doesn't destroy earth is irrelevant.

The situation isn't comparing the relative survivability of asteroid strikes it is saying that if one falls the other can go on.

That's flatly wrong. Oil rigs are the most expensive thing you can own and operate.

Elon who? The guy who thinks we live in the matrix? You believe him?

>Yeah well to not get wiped out by something like that we would have to span multiple systems. You have to walk before you run.
Which we never will, because again, no economic purpose worth the cost.

>It isn't covered by there is no damage or people butthurt about dead relavitevs so I am assuming it was mostly negotiating backed with posturing and resulting in a divided up belt.
So the author swept it under the rug? Pitiful.

>But it is true! You are saying that because it isn't your perfect ideal scifi show it is rubbish, oh sorry, "rocketpunk anachronism".
Now you're just throwing a fit. If it wants to be in the hard sci-fi genre it has to do certain things that it's not doing. It wouldn't be right to classify the Expanse as Military Fiction, would it? That's not the focus of the show.

Neither is Science. It's speculative fiction (what would happen if magic was invented), aka space opera.
>>
>>81078897
If the goal is to prevent asteroid strikes then with their technology level they should have zero difficulty monitoring all transiting bodies.

They just fly out and adjust the course of any rock on an intercept course. It's really basic shit and would cost a billionth of that of a mars colony. Wouldn't even need a single person living in space.

Putting people in space is prohibitively expensive. Anything that ignores that automatically becomes speculative fiction. Might as well have a dinosaur movie where the T-rex drags its tail and call that realistic.

It isn't about preventing asteroid strikes, that is just an example of the class of theat. It is about allowing the life to survive even if the earth dies. And it isn't supposed to be easy.

Sure, things that would kill both mars and earth are still a threat but to prevent that class of incident is at least an order of magnitude more difficult.

Yeah, the marketing and the fans told me that.

No of fucking course i didn't fall for it. I could tell from episode 1 that the show was for idiots. The extremely heavy-handed exposition and the sex scene before the first commercial break clued me in that this show was for WWE fans waiting for wrestling to come on.

How anyone praises it still boggles my mind. I knew people could have poor taste, but to glorify this bag of poorly implemented hackneyed space tropes? Jeeze. Read a fucking book. It's genetic in that the modern diet fucks them over big time. They were fine on the old staples of the polynesian diet: fish, pig, okra, kumara, and yes, coconuts. They got huge in the first place from all the hardcore canoeing they did to reach the islands - generation after generation of paddling makes for big people. Now that genetic disposition for growing big + a modern fat & sugar laden diet means they go obese pretty damn quick. There are huge diabetes problems amongst polynesians as a whole now.

Your "opinions" are terrible and you're too pigheaded to have them changed. Playing the
>lol u mad
card further shows how immature you are. Please sperg out somewhere else thanks
>>
>>81080929
That's what I thought faggot. Guess that argument sounded better in your head.

>countless superior works in the genre
>too scared to name even one

Trolling used to be an art. Now it's literally a bunch of glue eating middle schoolers shitting into their own keyboard.
>>
>>81080947
>using subjective definitions objectively while posting smug reaction faces

Please stop trolling. We're having a discussion.
>>
>>81080929
Well that's what you're doing now isn't it. Anyone that likes this show is a 10 year old redditor. And if you hate this show you're a big boy 4chan man making 300k/year. In the meantime you're so fucking offended over a show not being hard sci-fi. It's a space opera with the laws of physics mostly intact until the spoopy alien shit comes.

Did you expect an intellectual show or book series about realistic life in space?
>>
>>81080957
How is that an argument?

>>81080969
You didn't answer my question. How is lashing out at me a counter-argument?
>>
>>81080867
>Thanks for agreeing.

So you do in fact find the realistic space scenes in the show worthy of praise? Very nice, it's always pleasing to hear such a depressed fellow enjoy something for once.
>>
>>81080989
How is that an argument?
>>
>>81080989
Not the guy you replied to, but I agree as well. Name some of these obviously very superior highly intellectual 100% factual works of scifi literature you mentioned. Because i'm very curious.
>>
>>81080977
>Well that's what you're doing now isn't it. Anyone that likes this show is a 10 year old redditor. And if you hate this show you're a big boy 4chan man making 300k/year. How have i come across as offended?

>Did you expect an intellectual show or book series about realistic life in space?

Book series yes. TV show? God no, they're for the lowest common denominators, demonstrably.

What, it's unreasonable for a science fiction book to feature science? Pretty sure i've read military fiction that didn't feature wizards, so clearly it's possible to stick to a theme and maintain dramatic tension and interest.
>>
>>81081016
No you didn't address my contentions which means you agreed with them. This is very basic stuff.

>>81081022
Now that's childish.

>>81081023
Yeah i've no expectation of you using that honestly. It's just ammo at this point. You'll attack it baselessly for revenge against my triggering opinions. Be honest at least, come on.
>>
>>81080989
I don't give two birds double teaming a mouses's ass in a move called the rat flying fuck about what you think. You have demonstrated repeatedly that your contrarian opinions are nothing more than totally conspicuous trollbait to get attention from people who actually enjoy this content, which begs the question why you're even here if you don't (oh wait it's because you watch every episode you fucking sperg).

The point is to demonstrate that there in fact ISN'T better options because if there were I would be sharing them because I actually like Sci Fi Opera you inbred hick. Again unless you're a complete waste of sustenance you're already of this and are just an incredibly poor troll because there is no way anyone who is as fucking stupid as you are manages to survive past 12 without accidentally Darwinning themselves.
>>
>autists getting mad at plot enablers in sci-fi

Every time, all my life, thats why i never discuss sci-fi
>>
>>81081078
That's not an argument
>>
>>81081078
>there are so much better works but I'm not going to name them because I'm afraid you'll keep insulting me

Yeah I'm sure that's why. 1/10 troll, thanks for demonstrating that people who criticize the Expanse aren't to be taken seriously. You're doing the show a favor retard.
>>
>>81081030

Well the tv series is very close to the books. So maybe find another thread to shit up then. You don't like either. What did you honestly expect from this? They're not going to make a tv show based around a very fringe interest.

>Yeah i've no expectation of you using that honestly. It's just ammo at this point. You'll attack it baselessly for revenge against my triggering opinions. Be honest at least, come on.

I'm genuinely interested, but if you feel that way then be like that. Now it looks like you're giving up the argument of knowing superior scifi.
>>
>>81081100
What do you hope to achieve by doing that?

>>81081082
>I don't give two birds double teaming a mouses's ass in a move called the rat flying fuck about what you think

Oh my god is this how you actually talk? You're not winston churchill, ffs.

>contrarian opinions
>"I am triggered"

>totally conspicuous trollbait to get attention from people who actually enjoy this content
Everything is not about you, sweetie.

>question why you're even here if you don't (oh wait it's because you watch every episode you fucking sperg).

>scrolling through 4chan
>might as well check /tv/
>oh look an expanse thread i wonder if anything has changed about the show or its audience
>nope
>voice opinion
>haters gonna hate

>The point is to demonstrate that there in fact ISN'T better options because if there were I would be sharing them because I actually like Sci Fi Opera you inbred hick
Did you literally just say that only your opinions are right? My god.

>Again unless you're a complete waste of sustenance you're already of this and are just an incredibly poor troll because there is no way anyone who is as fucking stupid as you are manages to survive past 12 without accidentally Darwinning themselves.
God this shit is gold you can't make it up.
>>
>>81081078
Do you want me to change what you view as gimmicky and what you don't? I'm not here to guide your opinions kid, I'm here to correct your misguided assumptions.
>>
>>81081146
>mocks for being concerned about insults
>proceeds to insult

That's impressive.

>>81081153
>They're not going to make a tv show based around a very fringe interest.

Which is how i knew there wasn't much science in it before i even saw it. I'm sorry that your inability to stay focused while reading has forced you to seek lesser avenues for your entertainment.

>Now it looks like you're giving up the argument of knowing superior scifi.

One should not cast pearls before swine. Bet you've never read that book.
>>
>>81081255

And there we have it, you're just being an asshole for no reason.
>>
>>81081211
>>81081255
He literally typed all that out lol
>>
>>81081243

Got any webms of glowing radiators? Surely the show recognizes heat as the central problem to manned space ventures?

I'd change my tune in a second if this show taught anything significant about space flight.
>>
>>81081211
You've actually convinced me that you're not trolling and actually have some sort of brain defect. When normal people don't like something they just move on to something else. For the nth time can you just leave and never come back please.
>>
>>81081211

>please give me attention the post
>>
>>81081320
No, the immediately obvious realistic aspects are restricted to the stuff you see people talking about: Ship thrust gravity, effects of zero G, life in space in general. When it comes to the Epstein drives and how they're cooled, it's all uncharted territory.

Where did [I REPENT] get that picture of the ayylmao from that the quarian showed Bobbie? I doubt Mao had that himself.

It'll be revealed later. The proto'monster' is a result of combining the protomolecule with individuals lacking immune systems.

This is where the Strickland/Meng's daughter story line comes into play.

Evenwright was aware of what Mao was doing and the intel came from him. Evenwright flipped on Mao when he realized that Mao was instigating the Martian/Earth/Belter conflict as a way to field test the protomolecule without drawing too much attention.

Unrestricted population growth, automation, and lack of controlled immigration.
>>
>>81081699
That's what the entirety of the western world will look like if open immigration continues, except more niqabs
>>
>>81081699
Automation and outsourcing work to Belters cause the majority of the population to be unemployed.
>>
>>81081736
So Wright knew about the ayy and didn't say shit to anyone until they got the smoking gun in the mureen? Wot a cunt. I mean, it'd have made sense if Strickland had been experimenting and had developed that thing himself and then told Mao, what doesn't is that Mao cut off Wright a while ago and so Wright shouldn't have access to it... that make any sort of sense?

Why couldn't the cast a ripped 6'+ amazon instead of this grumpy little girl? Bobbie was physically intimidating because of her size. She literally knew that men either feared her or had amazon fetishes.

Instead we get this little girl with a napoleon complex.
>>
>>81056710
That glorious Earther feel when Bobbie realizes that all the full G training Martian marines do is useless and that they would get their asses wrecked if they tried to invade Earth.

>>81081699
Like others said unrestricted immigration, welfare for immigrants, "charity" that causes a massive population boom in africa. Pretty much everything we're doing now is going to lead that. Except without space travel and any of the nice stuff.

Frankie Adams is just under 6 feet tall. There are large polynesian women around but they tend to be as wide as they are tall. Valerie Adams, the NZ shotput world champ, is about 6'3 but she's not an actress and probably also on the anorexic end of the scale as related to polynesians.
>>
>>81082494
I dont get why they fucked up the size of Ganymede so much. Its obviously not a big thing but also easy to avoid by looking at the Wikipedia article.

Picrelated is the comparison to earth and our moon, which would mean that the entire Ganymede Station is about the size of south africa...
