I unironically love this movie. I think it is a perfect interpretation of how someone who doesn't know shit about hacking would make a big budget movie about it. The hacking and technology scenes are so deliberately cheesy and over the top that I can only imagine they jammed it up on purpose.

they were deliberate indeed.
a lot of movies actually pay homage to real life tools and sneak them into all the bullshit hacking tools.
nmap for example has been seen in quite a few movies.

https://nmap.org/movies/

they have a section on their website dedicated to that.
for short: nmap is a tool that scans ports. it can tell you which ports are used/closed/open and it can also be used to tell which services run on said ports and even which version of that software is running.

Withnail and I

Watch this movie, it is just the best. I can't really describe it, it's an experience.
>>
My favorite movies are usually ones that are great but mark a special time in my life, or a landmark in my understanding of what makes film so rewarding.

>Jurassic Park
Favorite childhood film, watched it *everyday*, literally, a kid.

>The Big Lebowski
First film that I disliked after watching the first time, then gave it a second chance and found something new in it everytime I watched it. Challenged my completely shallow taste in movies.

>Goodfellas
There was so much energy in the film. I remember this was the first movie I would isolate individual scenes and re watch them over again because the film making was so impressive. Started my admiration for Scorsese and was a starting point for a greater world of cinema. I realized with this film that a Director was actually important, and each one had his own style. Significant landmark.

>Lawrence of Arabia
Trained my patience for film. I used to be so inoculated to slow pacing by modern movies I could not sit down and watch an old Hollywood picture. I sat down and appreciated every frame of this. Introduced me to other epic films like Ben-hur, and other older films.

>Tree of Life
I watched this film when I was in a very emotionally poor area in my life. The movie was incredible. Really expanded my interests in how a story can be told in a movie.

>Chinatown
Watched this for the first time last year and absolutely loved it. This movie is just fucking good. I watch it almost every month.
>>

I remember seeing a discussion that asked the question "if you knew the world was going to end in half an hour and you could only watch the last half hour of a movie. What movie would that be?"

My answer was the Third Man. That last half hour is poignant and ends perfectly to that bitter end.

Even the author of the book with the same title said the movie had a sadder end than his book.

Red Spectacles and Stray Dog were released almost a decade before Jin-Roh.
They focus on period after the desolation of the Panzer Cops in the late 90's, while Jin-Roh is set in the 50's. So Jin-Roh is technically a prequel to both.

I know we have to be contrarian and edgy, but Spirited Away is my favorite. Followed by Marnie, Mononoke, Kaguya and Pom Poko.

Is the title referencing the Kurosawa film of the same name or is it just that, a wolf without a master?

Also, how good are they?

Are there any memes here about Wes Anderson, or are his films unironically regarded as good?

It's the best racing film, except maybe Senna and TT3D: Closer to the Edge

I forgot Redline. That one's definitely better than Rush.

Not sure about the Kurusawa film since I didn't watch it, but 'a wolf without a master' is definitely the main theme of the film.
I absolutely love both, despite them being very different. Red Spectacles is intentionally very jarring tonally, and the explanation for that will pretty much spoiler the entire film. In contrast Stray Dog is a very slow paced film. Nearly all of the action is clustered in the beginning and the end, with the majority being laid back and atmospheric.
They are pretty niche and not for everyone, but I'd recommend both in a heartbeat (especially if you like Jin-Roh's setting and themes).

Well, you spelling 'Kurusawa' would have triggered me but your explanation is pretty good and I'm sold on both.
