GOAT monster design
>>
>>81052209
Yeah, no. The Skull Crawlers were fine monsters, but they're not GOAT.
>>
>>81052209

Should have been a unique monster teased throughout the movie but not shown in the trailers, maybe it was the reason the SC came to the surface, they were running from it like how the Balrog did

I think the 'big one' (Ramorak or whatever it was called) really should've been a little more distinct from the babby ones. Even if it was something like the skull being a different color or smashed or something, that it was just a tiny one blown up larger was a bit dull. The fight was great though.

I have to say, Skull Island really surprised me. I think it was 99% Larry Fong's photography making it bearable.

G2014 is easily in my top 5 of Godzilla designs

G98 is a great monster design on his own, just not Godzilla

>>81052344
This, like for example red marks or stuff like that
But I loved how brutal and vicious it was, kinda remind me of the Big One in Jurassic Park

>>81052295
I think it's pretty much implied that it eats the smaller ones to survive
But if Ramarak killed Kong's parents, there's no reason to be afraid of a young one

>2014
Great Godzilla design, manages to be both bulky and imposing while also having a charismatic, almost human-like feel to it without resorting to the Showa era's goofier mammallian details.

>1998
It looks cool for a late 1990s giant monster based on a marine iguana. It's just not Godzilla. And that's the major problem with the movie, it's a solid monster flick but comes off as uninspired if you compare it to other Godzilla installments.

Well it was nice to have a Kong that can't be taken down by regular human weapons, CG was OK I guess but I just can never get used to it no matter how many advances in technology there are. He had pretty good expressions and they showed him being thoughtful and gentle without needing a Fay Wray role forced in there. Also I'm glad they didn't copy what PJ did and just made him a giant gorilla and instead went for like an ape-monster type thing. Honestly I'd rather more of this Kong than Fatzilla 2014.
>>
>>81054007

Better than the 1976 version.
More enjoyable than the Peter Jackson one despite its lack of 1930s aesthetics.
Characters were more fleshed out than the 1933 original
The plot was more original.
Atmosphere at the beginning reminded me of the original Jurassic Park for multiple reasons.(Awe inspiring nature, lighthearted moments before shit hits the fan)

Preferred the dinosaurs from the original King Kong and the 2005's appearances to the skull crawlers though. (I wanted to see some fucking dinosaurs.)

The Vietnam era aesthetics were top notch though, and I liked the changes.

I expected more of the story. Too many characters I didn't give a shit about (asian chick out of fucking nowhere. Real qt though), the island looked fucking huge and was to much like a praire instead of a brutal jungle all around.

I wanted more antagonism between SLJ and Kong. Wanted to hear more of the Goodman character and didn't care about the SAS guy (looked cool though and easy to make a 1/18 action figure custom)

Might pop up again, knowing that she's a Monarch asset, and so long as the following movies are set around the same era (which I think they will, considering that 2014 Godzilla is the first to be publicly acknowledged, while all others were probably maintained away from the public eye by Monarch).

Really hope we get to know more about Monarch, and the shit they endure for all this to remain secret. Conspiracy movies are my fucking jam.
>>
>>81052209
That movie was fun as fuck but I'm intensely disappointed that they didn't make a unique design for The Big One.
>>
>>81057107
Packard was one of my favorites parts of the movie

Too bad they killed him, he could've been some sort of Colonel Striker of X-2 but with Kaijus
Could've been an interesting conflict between people like him who wants to kill all Kaijus, and the people that recognize that kaijus like Godzilla or Kong are necessary for the planet/humanity survival
>>
>>81057236
I hope they at least do some comic books with references or even stories to classic Toho monsters, and how many times they were close to failure
>>
>>81054007
Pros
>Kong
>Skullcrawlers
>Jackson's character
>John Goodman
>Overall I paid to see what I wanted to see, no more no less
>The after credits scene
>The score is pretty good
>John C Reilly
>All the references, like the squid
>Good action scenes, great intro to Kong

Cons
>Useless characters
>Too few monsters
>No proper introduction/build up to the Skullcrawlers
>The island seemed a lot less dangerous than the 2005's one, and most of the time it felt the characters went to scene A to B, not smooth at all

Still a fun blockbuster movie
>>
>>81052209

Helicopters scene was so dumb I started laughing.

Final battle was also pretty bad.

Most of the stuff in between was good.

>>
>>81052209
>>81057947
The main cons for me were the inclusion of the photographer chick, SAS guy, and the biologist.

They added nothing to the plot and their acting was dreadful.

Furthermore their characters are out of place: the US government is conducting a survey of a secluded island in an attempt to beat the Russians at doing the same thing.
So who do they bring?
A communist sympathizer photogrpaher, a political refugee, and a Chinese (Communist) biologist.

That cut was pretty weird yes

It was pretty cool to have a fight in the daylight, pretty rare these days, but in the other end the setting was perfect during the trap scene in the night with the fire

They couldn't knew their weapons would be ineffective againt Kong, so it made sense that they started to attack him after he took down the helicopter

>>81058376
I agree, the chinese girl was only here to pander China, nothing more, but she was in the background most of the time

SAS guy would've been a cooler character if he already history with giant monsters, like the John Goodman's character
>>
>>81054997
Dammit if that isn't still an impressive feat of stop motion-live action blend to this day
>>
I got what I thought I'd get

It could've been a lot better though. Goodman, his assistant and the army guys would've been enough, and fill the good guy role with Kebbell's character (I really thought he was going somewhere with the Kong and giant bug encounters). Also fix the awkward transitions from one scene to another, the film seemed pretty rushed because of some cuts and the huge, barely developed cast made that worse

Still had a lot of fun. I don't know if half the scenes that made me laugh were supposed to though, like the grenade sacrifice

Completely misunderstood the question.

Overall a more cohesive film for me than Jackson's 3 1/2 hours epic of a giant gorilla.

Do you guys understand what orders of magnitude larger Kong in Skull Island is? He could step on a T-Rex to kill it.

In fact size was a major problem for me, he's so massive he looks like he would just sink down into the earth with every step. He towers over mountains.

Godzilla can get away with this by keeping him mostly in the water, wherever he walks is usually a wake of destruction. Kong supposedly lives on this island. It's not large enough to support him. He'd be eating a gigantic minor island size octopus every day. Godzilla doesn't eat, he's fueled by nuclear energy.

There's just something that works with the "gigantic gorilla" thing, your hind brain can believe it could exist in a Lost World sense, the jungle thick enough to support it with food. The hidden location remote enough to support it.

This was a problem they solved in Pacific Rim too by the way. Say what you want about the designs, the size wasn't an issue, they were transdimensional monsters that came in through the massive ocean.

And to fight Godzilla they're going to make Kong even larger. He's a walking mountain. Among many walking mountains apparently.
It just bothered me.
