Season 1 is kino and up there with the greats.

Season 2 is a bit weaker (seriously, we get that this fearsome drug lord is a family man and nice to his kids, stop showing the same scenes 3 times in one episode) but still great.

Audiences need an everyman to relate to and who serves as a viewpoint to all the horrible shit that's happening. Oberyn was already an insider who knew the ins and outs. It's the same reason why Kate exists in Sicario.
