Which is exactly the problem. It's an ugly Hollywood CGI fest where the only real thing, the little bits of face flesh not hidden behind a mask, awkwardly float in a churning mess of digital garbage.

DC movies seem to go balls deep with it.
Marvel has the good sense to use it sparingly, but they still go half way up the shaft sometimes (RDJ's head shifting unnaturally still creeps me out.)

This.

This right here is the moment when Zack won.

Look at it. It's a man facing off against a force of nature. And. Winning. It's got more visceral impact and awe-inducing mythic power than the entire MCU has managed to muster in more than a baker's dozen worth of films.

Zack won. And he did it with fucking Aquaman.

If he hangs out underwater, why does he have fucking long hair? What idiot thought that one up? He should keep himself shaved bald.

And why obviously rubber? That's not much armor. If they want scales, go through the effort to make scales. Let's just paint Testors gold on rubber.

Watch this, asshole.

The Kryptonian Codex is going to feature in the plans of the New Gods, They'll seek control of it because it will be a way to mass-produce superior Kryptonian shock troops to replace the parademons. They'll have someone either possessing Superman or impersonating him and he'll have to fight to re-establish his identity,

Why? Because they represent the Wahhabist movement within Islam, which radiates outward from the oil-rich countries of the Middle East.

Here's Lex, the allegorical stand-in for the West's military-industrial complex making his deal with that particular "devil."

https://youtu.be/s-MUzvASr8s

Standing waist-deep in a substance that looks pretty much exactly like crude oil.

Remember your science, kiddies? What happens when a hypothesis proves predictive?
>>

The Codex is representative of the Kryptonian religion, which in their case is basically science worship. They worship, for all intents and purposes, evolution.

>>80991695
Here's Lucy, the so-called "missing link." Notice anywhere in particular the Codex might fit into that jig-saw?

It represents the point in history where "evolution won." It's a subtle message, but it's essentially saying be careful what you make sacred, because anything can become a sacred cow, anything can become a religion, anything can become your "god."
>>
>>80991839
Now that's something that should be ripping up children in the next Night at the Museum.
>>
>>80991839
The Codex is the heart of Krypton's genetics program and population control. The word "codex" itself means a bound text, basically a bound manuscript, but it usually carries some religious connotations.

So the Kryptonian "book" contains the past of their people(their full genetics back to the time of that primitive ancestor, their "genealogy," so to speak), the future generations of Kryptonians(their "prophecy"), as well as dictating their role within their society(basically a genetically enforced caste system) as well as being the source of their population control.

In other words, it's pretty much all the things from the East that the West considers "alien," up to and including India's caste system and China's population control.

Zod seeks to seize control of the Codex in Man of Steel's opening scenes. He not only wants to possess it, he wants to "weed out the degenerate bloodlines," which in one way is just good, solid Space Nazi talk, but in another way, it's him seeking to control the "book" and cherry-pick out of it what's considered "canon" and what isn't.

Sort of like fundamentalists the world over.

That's why he's got such a hard-on for finding it. For him, the Kryptonian race doesn't continue without it.

I think DarkSeid has a way of making Kryptonians permanantly strong, probably not as powerful as they are with a yellow sun, but pretty much up there. I think they're going to sell the idea that superman came back stronger than he was before, like how doomsday comes back stronger, I think superman is going to come back stronger because of the codex inside of him.

When Zod finds out that Jor-El and Lara have conceived a natural child, he doesn't accuse them of a crime against the state or even just of being degenerates. No, he goes a step further and accuses them of heresy.

If nothing else tells you what the program represents to Kryptonians, that should,

When he finds Kal, but before he yet knows that the Codex is within him, Zod shows him a vision of Krypton being rebuilt. In the vision, he shows him the bones of humanity and the planet changing. This horrifies Kal, obviously, but there's no horror in that for a fanatic like Zod, only the glorious rebirth of his culture and people. When Kal asks him why he would do this, he reveals something telling when he says, "A foundation has to be built on something."

That "something" is us. To resurrect his people, he's going to repurpose Earth's biomass to the task.To him, we're not just living in squalor, we're part of it.
>>

>>
>>80987768

So basically, earth life doesn't count to Zod because his "book" has no place for it. When he says he intends to rebuild Krypton, he means all of it. We're all going away because we're irrelevant to him on every conceivable level.

So is Kal, minus the Codex.

To him, Kal is an abomination, a caste-less freak without purpose, and that's why Zod is so happy to learn he doesn't even need him alive to extract the Codex.

When Kal destroys the World Engine and defeats him, Zod is a man truly without purpose. His role in Kryptonian society means everything to him because he was born of and an adherent *to* that genetics program. He can't see a future without it, so he forces Kal to give him a warrior's death.

The only future Zod can see looks just like his past. He sees no merit in tolerance or compromise and can only see life through the filter of his "book." He is a religious extremist.

having a character do things for fanatical religious reasons is on the same level as "evil for the sake of it."

The person who created superman hasn't worked on superman for decades.

If you think there's any doubt in the mind of a fundamentalist, it's only you following the pattern that all people follow when they encounter an opposing point of view:

1) "They didn't understand me. Let me explain myself better."

3) "Holy shit! What a moron! Let me try this one more time."
4) "This asshole knows I'm right. He's just holding on to his views out of ego."
5) "This guy's just a lying asshole. He's just disagreeing to piss me off."

And Doomsday evolves, like how a virus Evolves. They killed superman. That's it. They made Doomsday Kryptonian, that's it. They decided they were going to bring him back like either the phoenix, or like a virus and they wrote an entire issue to explain how the kryptonians were trying to both tame a wild planet and bring about a perfect life form. They created a perfect evolutionary being. Now you're claiming that they were so desperate they searched every facet of earth reading thousands of comcis and mangas and novels, looking for that special oomph to revitalize superman. And I'm the one reaching.
>>
>>80987588
>You're a rich guy

Shounen jump was the most popular thing in japan with DC's target demographics and it's readership rivaled all of DC combined despite the fact it was a jp onry publication to an island nation a 10th of the population of the US.

So now you've shifted the crux of your argument to a claim that DBZ was OBSCURE.
>>
>>80994032
How many more coincidences do you want?

Lex, the guy with deep pockets who's wired into both the military as well as the government, providing "security contractors" to warlords and drones to the C.I.A. is bleeding on the corpse of Zod and it creates Doomsday, who upon being born, immediately lashes out at his creator, then proceeds to attack a member of his own "race," then goes onto destroy a monument we earlier saw graffiti'd with "False God," and nothing our military can do to it does anything but make it stronger, more explosive, and more destructive?

There's always a sort of logic to insanity, the parts that make it insane are where it clearly skips a number of necessary turns and lands somewhere in outer space.

Yes, superman is an immigrant story. So is the story of the united states. Thus the reason superman is literally Murica: superhero.

The steps between "immigrant story" and "islam" are what this guy has never really been able to explain. Because he doesn't know them himself.

Yes, retarded people are always very defensive of their perceived intelligence.

This also isn't a worldview. This is interpretation of fiction. In particular a piece of fiction where complexity, depth, and symbolism are much more likely to be accidental than intended.

So there are no Muslim Americans.

You get that being culturally alien doesn't preclude immersion in another culture, right?

Our media doesn't do much in the way of distinguishing between American Muslims and just "Muslims," either. That's why the "book" being a part of him but not something he actively practices makes him like a moderate representative of an "alien" culture.

Symbolism, allegories, allusions, metaphors only work if it supports the main theme and plot of the movie.

The idea that BvS should get any sort of praise for a weak attempt at making an allusion to Christianity is laughable. Allusions don't make a story more deep or interesting, the characters and their actions do. Superman is the same character at the beginning of the movie and dies the a act same character. Batman is the only change character that realizes that revenge is wrong, something a thousand other stories have done to better effect.

The fact that there may or may not be some allusion to a greater story only serves to make the actual story that happened in BvS look even weaker.
>>
>>80995725
The West, as represented by Bruce Wayne, is obsessed with vengeance in the aftermath of a traumatic brush with the alien. He embarks upon a campaign to destroy this alien, even though that alien isn't really responsible for what happened, and might, in fact, actually be a pretty good guy.

He shows that he's averse to killing people up close and personal(resorting to weaponry from his vehicle and such - Snyder talked about this distancing of himself from the death which is a serviceable metaphor for drone strikes) and whenever he's face to face with someone he views as truly irredeemable, he brands them and turns a blind eye to what becomes of them (Guantanamo).

He and the alien are manipulated by a third party(who's obsessed with power and prestige) who uses the media and the occasional orchestrated disaster to keep them at odds and stymies any what minimal efforts the alien takes to establish a dialogue with the public. The alien(who obsesses over the guilt he carries) stays largely silent and plays right into this third party's hands.

The West(Bruce), to sate its thirst for vengeance, embarks on a plan of premeditated murder and justifies it as "preemptive self-defense" based solely on his "foe's" alien nature and what he might one day conceivably do.

Only when he forces himself to look his prey in the eye does he finally balk.

So the message there is that by continuing to pursue an obsession with vengeance, Bruce(the West) is losing all right to see itself as the hero. He's letting his obsession kill his mercy and his reason.

Coincidentally, Lex's assistant's name is Mercy, and Senator Finch is pretty clearly a call-out to the character Atticus Finch from Harper Lee's "To Kill a Mockingbird," the story's voice of tolerance, reason, and justice.

But it's all just coincidence, I'm just so very sure.

So you missed the part about the Codex, what it represents, what Zod represents, and can't be assed to infer what having the Codex infused into him means.

Got it.

Do you want to try or do you want me to spoonfeed you that, too?

It really ain't hard.

It's similar to everything else Snyder where he has the tools and can't use them.

Yes, again, for the upteenth time, I'm completely missing how you jump from a character that is literally the united states of America personified into a superhero representing islam.

Well, first of all, what is America? A nation of immigrants, right?

Those immigrants come here and still carry their culture with them for generations, even if they're not fully aware of it. It's the distinction between being devoutly Muslim and merely culturally Muslim, sort of like how simply by growing up in a western society, you're culturally Judeo-Christian whether you prefer to think of yourself that way or not.

We all carry our books in our bones.

How alien would it be to your ears to hear a guy like TImothy McVeigh or Eric Robert Rudolph referred to as Christian Terrorist? We don't really think of them that way. We think of them as wackjobs that did terrible things.
>>
>>80996823

That is an interesting conclusion to draw, but I doubt that was intentional.

For starters,
>we
Speak for yourself or shut the fuck up. This is entirely your headcanon you're defending here. Christian terrorists are not a new or even alien concept. They used to bomb/burn free clinics and murder doctors all the time. mcveigh and rudolph were referred to as christian fundamentalist extremists/fanatics.

That out of the way, you still aren't explaining how America personified represents islam.

>>
>>80997206

In order for someone to be a terrorist for a religion, they have to give some indication their acts were performed in service to that religion.

Like how mcveigh and rudolph did.

>>80997254
You think anyone outside our culture makes that distinction?

That's where the disconnect happens. The East thinks of us exclusively in terms of Christianity and we, in turn, think of them inclusively as Muslim, whether the mainstream religion accepts them as adherents or not.

McVeigh and Rudolph can make all the statements they want, it doesn't mean that there are whole sects of Christianity that are going to agree with one thing that either of them did.

Consequently, that's also why it's not an entirely one-sided message. There *is* an active force within Islam perverting it into something monstrous, which is why it needs its own version of the Reformation.

I reference it in >>80991152

Snyder DC movies would be amazing but Marvel literally pays saboteurs to sneak onto set and ruin the filming and they pay writers to slip in bad dialogue to ruin the movies and they pay CGI studios to do bad work for DC movies. If Marvel would stop ruining DC movies we would get some truly amazing DC films.
>>
>>80996401
Lol wow you can't read, can you explain why this movie is good without drawing every character to some sort of allegory, symbolism or allusion?

Good movies are good on their own merit and when they do use symbolism it's only an extra icing that improves the overall experience.

So I'll ask again what makes this movie good? The whip cream?
>>
>>80997410
So you literally have nothing even resembling the slightest clue of what you're talking about.

ISIS and islamic fundamentalist extremism are raging against capitalism and multiculturalism, correctly viewing them as subversive forces that seek to rob certain people of power and those people painting that as an attempt to steal their god. They correctly identify the west as godless, not christian, and there is literally zero reason to think otherwise.

Wow, You genuinely think that "godless" and "Christian" aren't synonymous within the mind of Muslim extremists.

Sociopolitical considerations aside, why is it you think groups like ISIS persecute and kill indigenous Christians that won't convert?

Because their god is false, not just different, making them "godless" by default.
>>
>>80997801
Okay, son, just because everyone in snyder movies has to be stupid to support a narrative does not mean the real world works that way.

These people aren't fighting an ideological war, they're fighting to exist period. Its not about which revision of the bible is correct, its about people seeing the corrosive effects of consumerism upon any religious entity. As once a monotheistic God is no longer the source of all things, that religion loses it's main grip upon a human mind.

You literally don't have the barest clue of what you're talking about and you really just need to stop, lest someone think you might be right and spread your idiocy to another mind.

I'm not that Anon, but you're ridiculously full of shit. They aren't raging against capitalism and "multiculturalism", they're trying to bring about the Day of Judgement. They don't want to be left alone, ISIS wants the closest thing to the "Armies of Rome" to come meet them on the battlefield, where ISIS will be victorious and bring on the apocalypse.

They aren't mad at us because we're Godless, or because we're decadent capitalists. The only thing that they accept is a seventh-century style of living, where everything is done precisely according to Muhammed's words and actions, and apostates die. Wearing western clothes, voting, shaving, not calling people out for apostasy, these are all things that can mark you for death. And the true Caliphate fights Rome, and the apocalypse comes.

You're simultaneously right and wrong. You're right, they don't just want to be left alone. They want to exist. And they recognize they won't if they allow western consumerism to spread throughout their countries. And western consumerism is not a "stoppable" force. Hence their demand for the islamic state.

You're also confusing a lot of lower-level propaganda tools for the leaderships actual beliefs. What the suicide bombers are told (virgins, Armageddon, jihad, etc) are not the real reasons the suicide bombers are sent out in the first place.

These are easy mistakes to make. As its very easy to assign similar attributes to similar groups of people.

>>
>>80998091

Well, you're wrong, of course, but how does that even make sense to you? The leaders are all lying, according to you. They aren't just interested in following the Koran, and they aren't looking forward to the day that they battle the West, the West is destroyed, apocalypse. All of that is not true, apparently, they're just interested in existing without a McDonald's anywhere near them.

So, why are they sending out suicide bombers? They don't want multiculturalism, and they want to live in peace without our capitalist influence, so they cook up some bullshit to tell people about infidels and apostates and send people out to try and kill us.

So, when Abu Muhammad al-Adnani told all Muslims in Canada and France to run people over with their cars or bash an infidel's head in with a rock, what he was really going for was hoping that we aren't going to start selling cell phones.

You're making a really common mistake. The Islamic State is Islamic as fuck. From Zarqawi to Baghdadi, these guys are well-considered guys with a coherent theology. You're thinking of the whole jihad thing as this big, consistent deal, and that it's all basically along the lines of Osama, but these guys actually think they've built the Caliphate. They absolutely reject peace. They absolutely crave genocide. It's religious as fuck, and they see themselves as the true Islamic Caliphate, which is the harbinger of the apocalypse.

It's forgivable that you think we're still dealing with al Qaeda, but these guys have taken it to another level.

>those in power want to stay in power

>>
>>80998739

Let me make sure that I understand what you're saying. Correct me if my history is wrong.

Zarqawi was a student of Maqdisi, who was an intellectual jihadist in al Qaeda. Zarqawi was an attentive student, but he got a little too extreme even for Maqdisi, throwing around the term infidel an awful lot, expanding it's definition so that a lot of behavior that used to be more or less tolerated was getting people excommunicated and killed. Lots of Muslims getting killed by Zarqawi, to the point that Maqdisi wrote him a letter telling him to pump the brakes on this operation, that maybe it shouldn't go straight to apostate, that maybe some things are forgivable.

All that's just the difference between al Qaeda and ISIS. Tell me, are there executions routinely in the Islamic state? Why? What crimes are people being executed for? Are there mass executions? How frequently? Why?

It's understandable that you want this to just be bad governance, or some kind of reaction to social changes. But it's not. It's takfiri. They are looking to purify the world, by killing massive amounts of people. That's what they say, and they quote the Koran all day every day. They execute people all the time, individual executions for apostasy. Mass executions are frequent. All of this is explained by them, with citations from the Koran. Are you denying that they're following takfiri doctrine?

There are a lot of historical examples of Muslims following through with what the Koran legally requires them to do. ISIS is a modern example.
>>
>>80998874
OK, one last thing, then,

Just seeing if I'm even remotely on the right track here, Is it the fact the you found Superman, an American symbol, being used as an allegorical stand-in for Eastern Cultures and the West's fears of Nuclear Islam detestable not because you're staunchly American, but rather staunchly Muslim, and hearing that the woefully maligned, perfectly reasonable ISIS(who just want to exist) were being represented by a destructive monster
what really put a bug up your keister?

No problem, and yeah, that guy's something else. I just wanted to talk about Justice League, lol. It was a good thread until something happened. . .
>>
>>80999380

I mean, I've heard people argue that ISIS is correct in following Islamic law, or that they're right in what they're doing, but that level of denial is insane. I don't know, maybe it plays on Reddit or in college classes or something. I'm glad I'm not alone, here.
>>
>>80999488
Well let's talk about what *you* want to talk about.

I'm hype as hell and hoping that they dial back the allegory a notch or two so they can really hit one out of the park.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for an in-depth story, but after the workout BvS gave me, I kind of would like to at least put my brain on cruise control. Not off, mind you, but just a nice, steady cruise.
>>
>>80999585

Definitely. I'm not sure if it's because I liked it, and it was getting slammed so hard, but I feel like I spent so much time thinking about the movie, like it's an exercise or a homework project or something. I think it's really cool that so much thought goes into it, but it's more effortful than effortless. Some movies surprise you with depth that you only notice when you start looking; BvS was good, but it was conspicuously deep.

I still think it's a great movie. It wasn't ever really fun, though. I hope JL is fun, it looks like it will be. Bruce won't be murderously brooding from the very beginning, so it should be more lighthearted.
>>
>>80992567

woah come now achmed
>>
>>80999734
Well not to send you off chasing a red herring here, but before we talk about JL, I have to tell you about something I ran across today, I think I might have ran something down about the Sword of Alexander scene that's directly tied to Lex, Doomsday, or anything other than a subtle jab at a rival.

Bruce: "It's a fake, you know. The real one was sold on the black market in 1998 and now hangs above the bed of-"

Diana: "The Sultan of Hajar."

On a whim, I looked up comic book happenings and one in particular that hit me was that Marvel was sold to Toybiz in 1998. I'm not sure where to take it from there or what "the Sultan of Hajar" refers to(if anything), but I thought it was interesting.

I've heard they're teasing the Corps in this one too. You hear anything along those lines?
>>

That's really funny! I wonder, hmm. I know the sword's usually associated with Alexander using it to cut the knot, supposedly to symbolize solving an impossible problem by thinking outside the box. The 1998 Marvel connection is pretty funny, just as a fake, real, jab kind of thing. It seems too specific to not mean anything in the movie.

Other than Cavill's Instagram thing on Green Lantern I haven't heard much. It's Unite the Seven, so it'd be. .
