The reason Skylar is so widely denounced is because of how disproportionate her reactions are with her situation. For so much of the show her family wasn't in any direct danger, but she still did shit like kick Walt out, fuck Ted, and send the kids away. One of the biggest flaws with the show is how easily some of the problems could be solved by just explaining them to each other. Instead of Walt just sitting her down and telling her the current situation, he either lies or avoids the subject entirely, even after she's aware of his work.
