In what way did it beat your expectation? I thought it was very corny. I don't know a lot about Jap Folk lore but it all seemed like the studio picked a convenient plot to show off the studio's stop motion.

I didn't know it was that style of film until I watched it, and it was very well done imo

the fight scenes were pretty good for the story, and being kind of a kids movie

the script itself was a bit "corny", but other movies they've done (coraline, corpse bride, paranorman) follow in the same kind of track are pretty well liked
