doesn't he get hit by a car (the same one that hits him when he got the lottery ticket) near the end? That was the last episode I've seen, I assumed it was all a dream and just stopped watching.

Thought I do have to say this is one of those shows that's perfect for when you just got home from work, crack open a beer and enjoy dinner while watching an episode or two.

It's a story arc in the later seasons. Earl gets hit by a car, goes into a coma, and then his friends and family cross things off for him until he recovers.
