What happened after season 3 ? It was pure kino up to season 3

then he came back but how he's got ALS and won't be around much longer

Hillenburg wanted to end the series right after the 2004 movie. But Nickelodeon want more episodes so he left as a showrunner.

Some of S4 is halfway watchable. But really, Tibbitt was the wrong choice as a showrunner.

Tibbitt was a pure writer for SpongeBob, and he made the show more script-driven -- which isn't really a good thing since so many of SpongeBob's best moments were based totally on timing and whimsy and things that could only really pop up in storyboards.

Furthermore, Tibbitt took the "it's just a dumb kid's show" approach to crafting characters and situations, so that the show quickly became stupid and childish as hell. The treatment of Patrick during the Hillenberg era (a dumb, overconfident, lazy, yet lovable oaf) versus Tibbitt era (a screaming retarded manchild) is reason enough for me to never watch newer episodes.
