As long as people go on dates, movie theaters will survive.

Movie theaters will become clothing optional, that will bring the people back.

Thanks yify

Tickets cost 2$ dollars.

this means earlier rips, thanks obama!

It only costs me $15 to hire an anvil-lugger for the night. Much cheaper than a prostitute.

Hey grandpa. I remember you telling me those stories from your childhood
>>

kek I still go to the movies despite free camrips being available days after movie comes out so this isnt killing anything.

But if they ever release cinema ice cream in the shops now that is different
>>
>>80900420
Yeah.. if you travel to Malaysia. Have fun with their 5c burgers at McDonalds.
>>
you'd have to be a fucking moron to pay $30 to rent a movie

>they were originally gonna ask for $50
>>
I would go to more movies if the snacks weren't so fucking expensive
>>
>>80900309

teens have netflix now, no reason to actually go to a public place where you can't have casual sex
>>
>>80900790
$30 isn't that bad. It would cost 2 people at least $20-25 for tickets alone, then snacks costs, parking or travel, hassle of getting there early for good seats, rowdy ass audiences, etc.

If you're gonna watch with someone else or the whole family, and you have a big ass TV, then $30 isn't bad.
>>
>>80900790

my mom had paid $20 to rent digital movies off her comcast box, yes people are that stupid and yes people will do it if it's in their living room
>>
>>80900790
the $50 one was the same day as theaters. this is a few weeks later.
>>
I think people will always prefer seeing a film in theaters, the prices just need to be more competitive
>>
>>80900790
by yourself yeah, but think of a family going to see Lego Batman or something
>>
So then what? BluRay quality in torrents 3 weeks after release? Nice

>>80900223

The sad thing is you know the studio execs pushing this have been sold some new "super DRM" or something and genuinely think these films won't get ripped.

This is an astronomically stupid idea and in addition to killing off the vast majority of movie theatres it will probably end the concept of big budget movies and may even end what we currently think of as cinema. Just monumentally stupid short term thinking by greedy executives.

i p much dubt it since cinemas also offer showers and place for your falcon to fly over.
>>
>>80900223
movie theaters died because they got fucking greedy
>"so our basic business is to have a lot of people come in and watch movies"
>"YEAH BUT LET'S MAKE MORE MONEY"
>"uhhh how?"
>"LET'S CHARGE $5 FOR A SMALL SODA, $10 FOR A SMALL POPCORN, INCREMENTALLY JACK UP TICKET PRICES TO $15-30 PER PERSON AND THEN MAKE UP FAKE DISCOUNTS SO PEOPLE DON'T REALIZE THEY'RE BEING RIPPED OFF AND THEN EVEN CHARGE $30 PER PERSON REGARDLESS WITH STUPID GIMMICKS LIKE 3D GLASSES
>"... yeah!"
idiots have a stupid simple business: provide a space for people to go out and watch movies
they just couldn't leave it alone
>>
>>80901835

If you're implying I work in a movie theatre then no, I am however someone interested in preserving CInema as an artform.
>>
>>80901921

It's always surprising to me how they never adapt. My local cineplex started falling apart around ~2010, but despite falling traffic they never changed how they did business. All the different theaters themselves were dirty (because they were laying off staff), and they never thought of using them for anything else (say minigolf, paintball range, spa etc). They also never thought of doing more limited viewings in smaller rooms, or expanding the arcade. Now it's just abandoned.
>>
>>80902099
yup, rather than go "maybe we're being too greedy" and scaling shit back they just kept doing the same thing
complete stupidity
the only theaters that I've seen survive and stay strong are the ones in really small towns
since they're the only theater and don't do stupid gimmick shit, they stay in business
>>
>>80900223
WEBDL when?
>>
>>80901798

Maybe. Not that I'm a fan of them but this would be a step up for camrips.
>>
>all these fucking newfags that have no clue what theaterposts are

fuck all of you guys.
>>
>>80900223
That isn't a good thing. Films were meant to be seen in a theater.
>>
>>80903007
I agree, in part, but it's just not a good business model to have a giant air conditioned building that eats electricity and make almost no money on ticket sales. I understand why they overcharge hundreds of percent on fucking convenience store candy and popcorn (corn might be the cheapest thing on the planet) but the whole system is broken.
i happened to like drive in theaters. ours would play two movies in a row, nobody cared if you brought your own food/drink. could lean back in your car seat or even bring out folding chairs if you liked. not quite the theater experience, but still fun

I still go to the movies since IMAX screens are gorgeous, despite the shitty DLP 's they use.

I still miss film projection (when done correctly) but you also have the superior surround sound system. And i actually really like 3D (though some films don't need it)

rouge one looked amazing on an imax screen. Though I haven't seen a movie on a global imax screen... I wonder how that looks.

I haven’t been in a theater since 2003 (LotR:RotK) and why would I?

In addition to home viewing being better in every way, I can find the movie on-line within a month of two of it’s release or even the same week, if I have to see it RIGHT NOW! and I’m willing to watch a shitty cam-grab.

The _only_ thing keep theaters alive are teenagers, who have shit taste and and are willing to drop $20+ of their parent's money on a shit flick, thus most movies nowadays are geared towards dumb kids.

So now we'll be getting HD rips much earlier?

Pretty sad how the financial success of a theatrical movie rides on how many people see it on the first day. This means all hollyjew blockbusters will focus on generating hype and shoving all their money into one giant product than creating more variety.
