What are the scariest/creepiest/most horrific movies you've seen?
>>
>>80896024
It's hard to classify something as "most scary" or whatever

Sinister was probably the last horror movie I've seen.
The ending is a bit shite, but the opening stuff is good.

The Witch is probably the "best" one I've seen in a while
>>
Lake mungo. That one scene gives me chills everytime I think about it.

Audition was up there imo, but only if you got immersed in the beginning and stayed immersed. If you were in and out then you missed the significance of the payoff.

I was pleasantly surprised by Lights Out, but I wouldn't necessarily call it particularly scary. Some scenes in Sinister were pretty good.

Wait Until Dark is a fun one if you're into Hitchcock style suspense.

Actually scary and not just something that jumps at your face or "oh lel its so weird and fucked up xd"?

The Wailing

Like the first 2 out of 3 or so hours have just thriller shit and even some comedy, but spending so long to build the characters and the setting pay off in the end

Even the "Bagoul" thing was too far
Like, the tapes were scary enough and all the movie needed
Should have kept it more grounded and only teased without confirming a supernatural aspect, if it had one at all
>>
>>80898183
I liked The Wailing too but it gets too "hocus pocus" and doesn't explain a lot, like THE FUCKING ZOMBIES THAT APPEAR AND THEN DISAPPEAR OUT OF NOWHERE ???? WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT ABOUT ??? and the irrationality of the protagonist. I did enjoy how the writing plays with your anticipation of who the villain is, but after rewatching I realized it's very one-dimensional and everything comes at first glance. It's one of the those indie films that swept expectations but won't be mentionable in a couple years.

I barely get scared by horror movies anymore, so I was pleasantly surprised by this. Probably the most uncomfortable I've ever been from watching a movie. You get the idea where the plot is going but you don't want it to go there.
>>
>>80898396
>The zombies that appear and then disappear

>irrationality of the protagonist
I think he was suppose to be a dumb homer simpson character anyways, a fuck up.

I don't think it's gonna be a big thing a couple of years because
>It spends a lot of time building up
>No "satisfying" ending
>culture things that non-asians wont understand

I think there's more to it though, like all the religion symbolism, like how the family deserved their fate because even if something happens to you as a religious person, you should turn the other cheeks, and I feel like while it doesn't explain shit, if you look into it, everything has an explanation

Texas Chainsaw Massacre genuinely bothers me, it's got such a grimy ass feeling to it, and it's visceral, too, nit excessively violent, but almost realistically so. Also, knowing that the house they used began to stink with all the animal bones and fur and feathers they used, the heat and the general exhaustion and stress of the cast and crew, how it all adds to that nightmarish mixture is just perfect. What a weird fucking movie.

The major difference for me is that Noroi is just a typical paranormal movie done very, very well while Lake Mungo really twists the whole thing on its head with the ending.

The daughter was still there in ghost form, unable to move on. The family is completely satisfied to not pull on any more strings and moves away. No one ever knows what sort of fucked up shit she went through, we are only given hints and a single video clip. In fact, the whole movie is how the family deals with their own problems following her death instead of finding out what really happened to her. Its very depressing.

I'm pretty sure it was never really explained what the UFOs in Signs actually were, it was just assumed that they were alien ships since the movie pretended to be about aliens, which is what a lot of the "they're aliens" assumption comes from despite there being no real evidence they're actually aliens aside from some phenomena we just associate with aliens.

The crop circles are the same, since people just assume those are alien things, but they can easily be runes or any other sort of symbols.

Shamadingdong is a hack and didn't go all in on giving them an audible demonic language

The only horror movie that actually scared me enough to make me uneasy to be alone at night was Insidious, and I've seen every Hollywood and Sundance one from the 90s up till now. I watch them all with my girlfriends, though, so maybe they'd affect me differently if I were to watch them alone.

I did. Just because you want them to be demon's doesn't change them from being obvious aliens in fucking space ships.

No, they're really clearly not, the entire movie is there telling you they aren't.

First of all, religion is literally the focus of the film, as Mel Gibson plays a priest who's lost his faith which is the real theme of the movie, with the events of the film just resolving that whole plotline from beginning to end. The monster of the movie is governed by elementary demon/spirit rules like not being able to open the latch of a wooden door, has cloven hooves, and even a symbol of Baphomet on it's back. More, the young daughter, who's described as "holy", and "an angel", is clearly blessing the water and turning it into holy water, which is the ultimate weakness of the monster, and this tactic is reinforced by the fact that it's the religious hubs of the Middle East discovering how to beat them using "ancient techniques". What's more, there's not a single instance of technology ever used even once by the monsters, despite the movie wanting you to believe they're aliens, instead all their presence is 100% low tech.

I really don't understand how thick you have to be to not watch the movie with just this in mind and not see it all for yourself, given that the only reasons to believe they're aliens for any reason is because they utilize a few things we just associate with aliens in popular culture.

>>80912556
That doesn't make sense either since they were governed by basic demonic rules the world over, so why would aliens change their fundamental physiology and fail to utilize any and all technological advantages just so they could play pretend and drop dead?
>>
>>80912581
Its a "theory" outside of signs, that aliens are demons in disguise. Its probably what inspired mr night

Just because the theme of the film is about a man losing his faith doesn't mean they're demons you thick sack of shit. The movie explains a bird flew into their ships and dropped out of the sky and that the crop circles were coordinates for their invasion.

The rest you're either connecting random unrelated themes and flat out making shit up like the latch bullshit just because you want to believe an internet theory while ignoring the fact the movie indicates they used space ships with cloaking technology and the obvious popular alien themes like crop circles.

Demons could pretend to use spaceships, crop circles could be demonic sigils. In fact, that is what is happening in this movie.
>>
>>80912901
Funny Games isn't even creepy at all.
>>
>>80913377
The movie doesn't indicate a fucking thing since literally everything that happens regarding the "aliens" is pure speculation on the part of both the characters and audience about what the phenomena occurring actually is, while the demon theory is 100% based on concrete facts as they're presented in universe, with the gorillions of overtly Christian symbolism backing it all up to suggest that what everyone thinks is happening is actually something entirely different, kind of like a TWEEST that Shamalongdong likes tossing into every single movie he's ever made. Presuming they're aliens is based on absolutely nothing since it's just the people in the movie guessing at what the fuck is going on, while them being demons has some actual support you can see and hear provided by the film.

>>80913441
Because they were making noise next to the other end of the baby monitor?

>>80913473
There's nothing concrete that actually says they're a spacecraft though, it's just an assumption the people in the movie make. The only thing that's happening is that birds are running into some invisible force in the air, and lights are appearing in the sky, what's actually occurring is pure speculation to lead the audience into thinking one thing when the truth is another.

It's kinda old now, foreign, and low budget, so the effects aren't great. It's a very slow-burn sort of movie that pays off in the end with some intense scenes and some social commentary. Good film but you'd have to be in the mood for that sort of thing.

English.
I can see why someone may find it a little frightening, because some of the scenes were perfectly executed, and I thought that the two murderers were extremely well acted, but it did not stick with me as a "creepy movie".
That being said there were still some amazing scenes that rival what is put out in horror movies today, such as when the boy tries to fire the shotgun and it doesn't work, and when the golf ball rolls back into the room after the situation seemed resolved.
And if I'm not wrong didn't Haneke want his movie to be the exact opposite of a regular slasher/gore film?
I haven't seen the German one either but aren't they exact frame for frame remakes as well?
>>
>>80914109
>And if I'm not wrong didn't Haneke want his movie to be the exact opposite of a regular slasher/gore film?

funny games is creepy because haneke wants to indict the viewer for watching it. haneke suggests that people who watch violent movies as entertainment are complicit in the violence happening on screen, even if it's simulated.

http://www.spiegel.de/international/spiegel/spiegel-interview-with-director-michael-haneke-every-film-rapes-the-viewer-a-656419-2.html

>Every Film Rapes the Viewer

>These films make violence unreal and therefore consumable. It's like being on a ghost train ride. I deliberately allow myself to be frightened but I know that nothing can happen to me. I remember when Quentin Tarantino's "Pulp Fiction" came out, and I was sitting in a matinee filled with young people. The famous scene of a boy's head being blown off caused a huge commotion in the theater. They thought it was great and they almost died laughing.

>Haneke: I was upset because I think it's irresponsible. I can't stand violence. I'm allergic to any form of physical violence. It makes me sick. It's wrong to make it consumable as something fun.

>But they don't show it and they take away its value as an attraction. Because that's obscene.

funny games is creepy because the director feels that its viewers are creeps.
>>
>>80914109

Insidious was pretty creepy and had some decent scares. The Witch was eerie but not scary. Enter the Void was very unsettling, and kind of juxtaposed with the aesthetic of the film which was comfy.

The Abandoned - I've never seen a movie with at atmosphere quite like it. Some people I've shown seem to hate it though, while a few have also appreciated it. I'd like another anons opinion on it.

Halloween (2007) is an all around solid horror film. What you see Meyers do at the start really seems to make you fear him getting hold of his prey later in the movie.

The accent is extremely notable yes, that's why people can tell it's from Spain right away.

Funny thing, even mexicans have less of an accent, especially in dubbing where spaniards literally cannot hide it by any means because of how messed up their voice is. They're mocked because of it.

And before you say ''it's the original spanish!'', it's not, not even remotely close.

Gone Girl is scariest for me, because of personal experience. If you've ever dated a girl who was seriously dangerously sociopathic and insane in a clinical sense, not like "Oh gurls be cray", like this girl might literally stab me to death, you know fear. You try to break up with someone because they're losing touch with reality and are experiencing increasing psychosis and they say, "No, I won't let you leave me. You can't I won't allow it. You'll be dead before that happens." Then you try to break up any way and she starts spreading rumors ruining your reputation and then the illegal stuff starts happening. Not to get into details, but don't date a man/woman who you think is insane, you can't fix them. Sorry about the public service announcement blog. Women are scary because if you're a man, everyone believes what they say over you no matter what. It's cool though, when you have to basically move states away and go into hiding...

The witch is great. Rewatchable even for someone like me who hates to rewatch soon after viewing. Going to watch something on netlix/hbo/amazon/hulu if anyone has recs based on that.

Saw Confessions last night.
It was sort of a drama-horror about an intricate revenge taken by a teacher on two students who killed her young daughter.
Pretty great movie, but also sad and psychologically fucked.

If you want sad try Funny games. That movie is fucked up. There's also Landmine goes click which is about a guy who steps on a land mine so can't move and then people come fuck with him and his girlfriend.

What was that movie where everyone starts killing themselves for some reason? I think it took place in Philadelphia and it had John Leguizamo in it.

There was a movie I was planning to watch, but I forgot the name completely. I think it was about some guy who gets trapped in a lighthouse, and the radio starts communicating with him. Anyone know?
