also, although the more you dig into it, the less true it is, there's a very clear narrative to the Greek Mythology© that is easy to follow and easy to adapt, whereas the only other one that comes close is Norse mythology and even that one is all disjointed in comparison. Chinese, Japanese, Mayan and Aztec stuff is way too weird with not a lot of moralizing so they aren't very cinematic.

Other civilization's didn't have a pantheon developed enough to gather attention, Celt stuff is more embedded into folklore for example and other myths got gobbled up by christian saint origin stories

What would be some good spooky Aztec stories? I'd think you could pull some decent horror movie out of that mythos.
