Like you say, they were there to try to stop a war from starting, they were censoring Bobby because they wanted her to lie to help with that goal. Letting her get interrogated could have been bad for that goal. Yet they guy caves after she called him out on his pride? That is such bullshit, the guy should have taken the dis and ran with it. Especially since he knew and and should have been prepared for her hypocritical snipes.

Okay I have a plot complaint. Doesn't it see super-obvious that Mars is taking responsibility for the Ganymede incident and giving Earth everything they want because they don't want Earth to know what they were really doing there? And wouldn't that be super-obvious to the Earth government as well? Considering that Mars has a superior military and could just tell them to fuck themselves, they had no need to take responsibility.
FUckk belters!!!IF YOUR NOT MARTIAN YOU BELONG TO REDDIT..... 1g is a shit meme force........day of the nuke is coming..!....
>>80905205
It's been repeatedly mentioned that earth is the stronger force;Mars simply has more advanced tech.By taking responsibly they hoped to bury any further investigations or tensions while they use Bobbos information to their benefit.
>>80904451
This series is fuckin' DONE. Even Netflix won't touch this hot GARBAGE.
>>80905205
>superior military and could just tell them to fuck themselves
No, they just have some more advanced tech. They where saying before getting to earth they the really didn't want a war. Sure they might have just been lying to bobby it would be inconsistant from a narrative point of view because they make the UN guys motivations clear when the protogen guy puppet him.
>>80905537
Right, I get that they're trying to bury further investigation. My point is that Earth would get that too.

>>80905205
>>80905662
Of course Earth gets what Mars is doing. The point is that they don't want a war, so why push this issue further? They are being given a publicity win, which is as good as they are going to get short of going to war and winning there, which they don't want to do, yet. Ganymede was a neutral place that neither side really gives a shit about, and only the Belters get fucked by it being destroyed. So in other words, a war isn't worth starting over it. Everything they do because of it is just pr.
>>80906814
Okay fair enough. I guess calling them on it wouldn't get them very far since Mars would just deny everything.

Her role is to assist the Undersecretary (Errinwright). The gray haired guy Errinwright was on the phone with, the one you've seen in the meeting room scenes a few eps back is the Secretary-General. He's the leader, Errinwright is second.
But both are temporary positions. Politicians come and go when re-elected or not. Avasarala however isn't elected. On paper she might not have a lot of power but as a Deputy Undersecretary she is granted the same acting rights as the Undersecretary, and thát together with her fixed position makes her quite powerful.

How does Mars escape the problem of automation and technology killing 90% of jobs, since they're looking down on Earth for having a large unemployed population? Is every single Martian a doctor/scientist/engineer/soldier/etc who all manage to find employment or are the lower class sold into slave labor?
What the fuck is this woman's accent even? I understand from the name she's supposed to be Indian or Pakistani maybe, but I saw this actress play South America with the same accent.

Technology doesn't completely destroy jobs, it simply transfers them with more complex tasks. A place like Mars where everyone is living in unnatural eco bubbles is going to require around the clock maintenance just so people don't instantly die. Think of life on a ship and multiply it by 100
>>80919045
go to Mongolia and learn to sing
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qx8hrhBZJ98
>>80918564
Judging by what we saw on Ceres, this universe is not very good at automating mechanical task like life support. The same way they need to shove human operators into power armour and warships. Martians probably run around fixing pipes in their domes that robots can't fix and Earthers don't need.
>>80910902
Yes, what happened to it. They tried to ram it into Eros, and it was never heard from again, despite it just flying away.
>>80919066
Why do people keep thinking this way? When we get automated cars and trucks on the road, we're going to lose tens of thousands of jobs. Those drivers are not going to be qualified to do some sort of technological work or maintenance work with these automated vehicles. Please refrain from posting on this board unless you have something intelligent to say, cuck.
>>80919201
Automated cars and trucks doesn't mean there won't be a driver. Planes have more or less been automated for years yet those still have the same sized crew. Saying that an automated vehicle will function 100 percent of the time is like saying that your PC never froze or had a program glitch of any kind
>>80913587
samoans are strong-fat tho
>>80919066
Let's say you automate a factory with 1000 employees in it. This won't lead to the creation of 1000 jobs (that would require higher qualification and higher pay than your average factory worker) because in that case there would be 0 incentive for the owner of the factory to go with automation, since it would be more expensive
You might be right about there being an abundance of work on a place like Mars though
>>80919280
But that's wrong though. Planes don't take off and land by themselves, you need a pilot for that aspect of it. I never said that vehicles won't have a malfunction but the guy who used to drive it isn't going to be the one to repair it. And you better believe that no respectable, successful company is going to keep these drivers on their payroll hanging out in their trucks just in case a glitch happens.
>>80919066
>>80919332
don't forget also that mars also has a fascist government that forces people to work
>>80919332
You have never worked in a place that required 24/7 manning have you? You seem to be thinking in terms of a car factory when a nuclear power plant or large oil refinery would be more applicable when thinking of places that simply can't shut down for the night
>>80884516
Her voice is so good that I'm literally watching the show purely because of her. Her voice is great, I honestly could listen to it all day.
>>80914376
oh boy I got news for you.
>>80919353
When you factor in the cost of insurance and potential public outcry when something eventually does happen you bet there will be people in those trucks. The industry will probably change to more trucks making shorter trips to cargo hubs where the container is changed out to another truck with a fresh driver but the trucker isn't going to disappear
>>80918564
they said conscription is compulsory
a large portion of them could be military, which is just welfare of another flavor
>>80919469
That's just conjecture, you've got no evidence that that shit is going to happen. On the other hand, we can look at how automation has affected job markets in the past and come to my conclusion.
>>80918564
Mars has a fraction of the population of Earth yet a similar if not more advanced economy, a slightly smaller military and a planet wide engineering project.
Its not like they have a youth unemployment issue either if everyone is off doing military service.
>>80919387
i even worked in a chocolate bar factory that ran 24 hours/day
>>80919510
You aren't factoring in globalization. We don't live in pre-WWII economic bubbles anymore. The human jobs didn't disappear, they simply got shipped off to Mexico
>>80919469
Insurance will end up being cheaper for bots as they are nor prone to human error. Less accidents will happen. No-one will be able to compete who does not use self-drive. Real jobs for real people emp the bots ai war now
>>80919581
But a chocolate bar factory CAN shut down, the market is dictating that it doesn't.
You have to think of everything you take for granted, any interconnected system that is responsible for maintaining the air, water, heat, food that we all take for granted is going to require an army of engineers and technicians to keep it running as humans simply can't shut down the need for oxygen because the machine recycling it happened to break down
Isn't Ganymede far as fuck from the Belt? Seems odd it would be the place of choice to supply the Belt with food etc, but I guess there might not be any better options (I know about the radiation etc)
>>80919718
we haven't seen self drive done en masse yet. The Tesla accident proved that robots are terrible at adapting to conditions outside its program parameters. Unless bot- truckers get their own dedicated highways, accidents will happen and the human at the wheel will continue to be a thing
>>80913587
This annoys the shit out of me too. The entire casting side fucked up by choosing her but she could've at least thought 'well shit I'm playing a marine in my first tv role, I had better get in shape'.
It is something that I've definitely noticed getting more and more common with actors over the past 10 years.
>>80916327
Goddamn I love Drummer.
>>80919878
No you are dangerously wrong. Ultimately far less accisents will happen once self-drive comes into full swing. It will become the norm, you will pay a massive insurance premium to manual drive. This will be so. Companies will not have a choice, financially. Millions of jobs will disappear in a decade. Destroy.it.now.
>>80892601
welcome to /tv/
>>80897444
She knows this too. What got here interested was the "7th man wasn't wearing a vacsuit" thing. She's not trying to jeopardize the peace talks, she suspects the martians might be overlooking something too.
>>80919995
You pay the massive insurance cost for putting several tonnes of metal and cargo going 60 plus miles an hours next to other people. Really the only people who benefit the most from self drives will be large conglomerates who will turn the industry into something akin to rail but on the highway. Self drives will never be fully independent the same way ships, trains and airplanes still have people at the helm but the driver will end up taking more relaxing trips for shorter distances for less pay, replacing the system of methheads on the road who get paid per mile driven that we have now
>>80919753
This, but that's just part of it. I would imagine TERRAFORMING AN ENTIRE GODDAMN PLANET could always use some helping hands.
>>80919760
Ganymede is in the Jupiter system. It sustains the other moons first and foremost. It was also the only stable ecosystem in the outer system - aka it could survive without needing replenishment of various organic substances. Your average inhabited station or asteroid grows its own food, but gradually suffers all kinds of losses. Ganymede is where you turn to buy soybeans when your crops die due to a lamp failure and there isn't enough nitrated soil left in the backup hold.
>>80884164
I want her to shove her toes in my mouth.
Would I enjoy the Expanse? Not into space opera/drama. I like true sci-fi and colonisation, the usual serialised TV tropes irritate me.
I'm desperate for a good sci-fi fix but I don't want to invest time into a show that devolves into daytime drama.
>>80919894
>Goddamn I love Drummer.
only good belter there is
>>80920603
Yeah, you'll enjoy it.
So when is Amos going to violently rape him?
I really want to like this show but the acting and casting is just so bad. I think OP lady is too over the top. I would be able to deal with her voice but the unrealistic ranting combined with the voice are just too much.
Fucking Holden is another story. The dude looks like everything everyone makes fun of Jon Snow for magnified by a thousand. Stupid mouth breathing, expressionless, amateur.
A bunch of the other actors are lame too, especially on the Rocinante, but I really wouldn't be complaining if it weren't for those two.
>>80920968
u got issues
>>80920968

>>80919656
That's not true. Most human jobs are replaced by robots; they disappear. Holy fuck have you done any reading about this at all that's not on this board?
Does it bug anyone they pronounce his name amus, kind of like anus.
>>80922250
Well, he's Portuguese.
>>80922220
>muh edgy 15 year old /b/-tier gay rape fetish shitposting
>>80920968
If Amos is going to be raping anybody it will be Alex.
It will be mildly consensual as he's clearly starting to have feelings for him, given that he made him a large batch of delicious lasagna.
I guess there's truth to that old adage: the way to a man's heart is through his stomach..

>>80919201
>implying automated cars aren't going to be a massive failure.
>>80925066
Bros can be bros. Alex and Amos are both bros with Holden.
But with each other they also have something called sexual tension. It can lead to blue balls, it's all I'm saying. Why not resolve it and who know maybe they'll just find happiness? Yes, they're an unlikely pair, which is what's so brilliant about it. They're balancing each other out, making up for the others' weaknesses with their own strengths.
>>80925079
is this some sort of inverted the-winds-of-winter-will-never-be-finished meme?
>>80919201
We'll lose thousands of jobs, yeah. But it will also save tens of thousands of lives every year from simple driver error, as well as reduce overall traffic congestion from fender benders and road stoppages, saving billions of dollars annually.
>>80923597
Amos would never rape anyone because of his past and because he's a good dude.

i thought it was implied he did that magnet to the brain operation to remove his empathy?

make 90% of the jobs military.

I know. I cringed when i saw it in the sneak peek and had to forward that part in the episode. Seriously, what kind of a director approved this """acting"""? Or maybe this was the best take?

it would have been so perfect. maybe throw in another qt or two and it would have rivaled Firefly
>>80925434
Nope just reality
So how good are the books? I heard that Holden and crew are still the MCs after like 8 books so does it get stale as fuck or are the books actually good?
>>80886234
She can take a shitWHEREVER THE HELL SHE WANTS
>>80928445
They're good, definitely worth reading. There are many other main characters besides the Roci crew, so it stays fresh throughout.
Season 1 has reached X-Files level of comfyness to me.
>>80892458
I hope this is true. This is way better than jews taking over and starting to write fanfic.

>>80931545
I don't get how ships in this Series generate gravity for crew.
Unless I'm wrong, according to this pic, shouldn't the Roci be accelerating constantly to keep everyone on their feet? Isn't that incredibly inconvenient for space travel?
>>80932861
The engine allows for constant acceleration at minimal fuel use.
>>80932861
>shouldn't the Roci be accelerating constantly to keep everyone on their feet
That is exactly what it is doing, this is explained in one of the first episodes. Accelerate half the journey, then flip the ship and de-accelerate at the same rate the rest of the way
>Isn't that incredibly inconvenient for space travel
Not if you have efficient (impossibly so) engines and want to go as fast as possible
>>80884164
I hate her voice. It's not even the scratchiness. It's like she doesn't even speak English at all and learned all her lines phonetically.
>>80932391
It's very close as far as I can tell, except for the purple color. Not sure if the size is right either. The general shape and layout seems about right though.

She's actually not a smoker the way everyone thinks, her voice just mutated like crazy in teenager years. I remember from an interview her parents joked she was one of the brothers because of the voice.

Bad casting, good acting. He was supposed to be a super sauve guy near perfect looking from the novels. Played the role good though.

What is amusing is everyone's favorite politician already highlighted in the series that basic income is not some gift, it is a curse. It is a failure of the earth government to provide real opportunity to its citizens.
Emigrating to mars is seen as a positive because despite all the risks their is real reward. Please, don't be angry for those who desire basic, pity them, for they no not of what they desire

How does Mars intend to win any war? Even if they win the space battle, get complete orbital supremacy, then what? Do they bombard 30 billion people to death, leaving Mars as the only human-occupied planet to get fucked up by a single crop failure? Somehow try to invade a planet of 30 billion? Somehow try to occupy it?

>>80935283
I guess they could just blockade it and force them to do whatever they wanted. Drop a rock on a population center anytime the UN doesn't comply.
>>80935283
Doesn't Earth get a lot of water from the belt? If Mars controls space they control that and then they basically just lay siege to Earth until Earth gives up?
>>80935365
The crispy edgy parts are fucking disgusting though, what is wrong with you?
>>80935462
>>80935455
I figured earth could supply its own water. It uses the water from the belt for luna and the earth owned stations / colonies.
>>80935543
Earth water is too polluted.
>>80935400
That's going to just lead to an even worse counterattack when the Martian empire eventually collapses. If they manage to create a magnetic field, atmosphere and green Mars with the population multiplying it's just going to split into independent states at some point.
>>80935455
Even if they do, lose 10 billion people and Earth could probably manage again. The water isn't going anywhere and technology can create fresh water from salt water already, probably better in the future. Earth has probably the largest amount of easily accessible water in the solar system.
>>80935455
I thought all the water was going to Mars for its planned ocean?
Does anyone have a webm of the battle between the Martian ship and the stealth ships?
>>80935620
That's retarded, especially given their technology level.
>>80935620
I figure they have the tech to clean it. Most of the surface is covered in water. Not saying there's a scarcity though.

How would they counter attack if every weapon they tried to build had a rock dropped on it?
>>80936421
Automation is going to cause enormous social issues, especially if people keep believing you NEED to work in a society where half the jobs we have now are automated and no new ones are created in its place. The last part trips most people up, because they foolishly assume there will be jobs to replace them. We might need more engineers at first to repair our machines, but improved diagnostics and repair bots will also put a damper on that.
