Try BBC. It was sold to HBO for broadcast but it was a UK production.

It didn't get a huge following in the UK. It was on at 9pm BBC2 midweek sandwiched inbetween 2 random shitfests. I'm surprised we got a 2nd season desu.

This show was cancelled because it cost something like 120 million a season to make, hugely expensive, and thought at the time that it was more profitable to make less expensive shows and more of them for the same price. Looking so bad ass and being as good as it was ended up being its downfall.

Granted, the explanation for cancelling Rome might be bullshit - I'm not an HBO Exec - but their reasoning's for shutting it down at the time were legitimate as far as it is concerned. With the internet boom, faster connections and streaming content, they can more than afford to invest as much money as Rome got a lot more because they are guaranteed to get the revenue they require, which wasn't possible before. I suppose they could always attempt to bring Rome back, but that is a lot of actors that may not sign on, so it just wouldn't be the same... though, perhaps, if they were able to get Kevin and Ray back, it is possible they could actually skimp on a lot of the other actors in favor of a new, isolated story about them. Maybe in the future.

This show is absolute shit and left wing populare propaganda. Cato, an icon of conservatism, is depicted as a senile and foolish 80 year old in the show. He was 49 and born a year before Caesar . Cicero is played as an effeminate and vacillating coward . Octavian is a super genius, omnicient 13 year old. I could go on and on, but clearly the show is biased towards Caesar and his faction who never do wrong, and against the optimates who are a bumbling mass of incompetency and weakness.

I think season 2 covers more than 10 years. So it would have been awkward to have the young actor portrait a 30 year old Augustus. They don't really make the time jumps obvious in the show so perhaps they could have just pulled it off with original Octavian.
