>Brits and panel shows
Welcome to what passes as news on CNN, MSNBC and FOX in the USA.
>>
>>80864356
I'm pretty sure it's some kind of scam by the BBC to keep British comedians employed.
>>
I can't stand them myself. It's the typical British attempt to one up each other with their own perceived "cleverness", it's never in service of a joke just to satisfy their own ego and demonstrate that they went to Uni at St.Andrews, or Oxbridge or whatever other faggoty institution.

Inb4 muh precious banter

Brits aren't even the best at it, they were usurped by their own convicts. These panel shows only demonstrate how insecure Brits are about their own image.
>>
>>80864356
they love the bantz. it's what drives them

I've noticed this as well, brits seem desperate to prove they are their idealized image.

Government run television (ie. the BBC) operates on the condition a certain percentage of content is locally produced.

Live to tape panel shows are the cheapest way of producing local content.

Cheap to make, so if you have a good enough idea and a good house comedian/host, it was almost always be good. It's sort of why the US has so many 'reality' shows - they're cheap to make, and if they have a good enough idea and an entertaining main cast, it almost always will get a lot of viewers.
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2z-AdzgKjY

They are cheap as shit and the comedians don't even have to write new jokes for it.
>>
>>80864356
Brit panel and talk shows are 100% pure excuses for bants.

Which is why the questions are designed to get the guests to start chatting random shit instead of a straightforward answer.

We love banter. QI is probably the best example of this, but there are plenty of others.
>>
>>80868828
The Andy Parsons bit slays me. Harry and Paul really don't get enough love
>>
>>80868409
The UK is separated into Regions, much like the USA has atates.

Each region not only has national news, weather and programmes they also have regional news, weather etc.

It's weird because we're such a small country, but it's possible to go 50 miles in any direction and get differing tv broadcasts.

MOST channels are the same no matter where you go, but regional tv programmes are part of the BBC's license fee mandate and so you can make a tv show specifically about Cornwall for example, only to be shown in Cornwall and the BBC would fund it.
>>
>>80868845
QI is the best. Trivial facts, curious comedians, and bants? True comfort.

>It's weird because we're such a small country, but it's possible to go 50 miles in any direction and get differing tv broadcasts.

No it's not. At the most you can get a different BBC shouwing you different news for a half hour. Every single channel will show the same shit for everyone else.

America's tv is totally different and completely regional. New York alone has six channels only dedicated to showing things on New York, original content too. The UK has only one channel like that, London Live, and it's pure shit and still full of reruns.

I used to watch a lot of them pretty religiously, now i only catch the odd episode on youtube if it has mitchell or lock involved.

there's a joke on 8 out of 10 cats, where sean lock talks about a kettle or something, and it's legit one of my favourite jokes i've ever heard, but i can never find it. i remember watching it and honestly nearly passing out.

People seem to be ganging up on Morgan for the wrong reasons. I applaud him for doing it. Rizzle Kicks are about as funny as a knife in the ear and the entire show is a pathetic imitation of what it once was. Morgan is a long time guest and probably remembers when the show was ACTUALLY FUNNY. He probably thought that smashing a cup would inject some excitement. I remember when this happened and it was in the papers...pretty much everyone reacted the same: "Buzzcocks is still on the air?"

Big Bang Theory is pretty famous for is sugar-charged audience. It's at the point now, like the later seasons of Friends, where the audience is so packed with superfans and psychotic retards who fall to pieces just from seeing the actors in person. If anything, editing TBBT to remove the laugh track proves that it's a live audience, as they just pause to stare at each other after lines.

Community is a lot better than Curb. Even Parks and Rec is better than some Curb.

The big point here is that your criticism is outdated. The use of the laugh track peaked in the 90s, with Seinfeld, Friends, Frasier, Everybody Loves Raymond, etc. The three camera sitcom was dominant on 90s television, and as three camera sitcoms are supposed to be filmed in front of a live camera audience, laugh tracks were all over TV. As the three camera sitcom declined in popularity, the laugh track went with it, and now the majority of shows are single camera, with a lot of the mockumentary style. Now that How I Met Your Mother is gone, it's really just down to Big Bang Theory as far as the three camera laugh track sitcom. It's not like we rebooted the Office with a laugh track.

Don't feed the wild animals, m8. If they stopped giving them jobs, they wouldn't have so many 4th and 5th tier comedians. In America, the only place for failed comedians to ply their trade on television are Comedy Central Roasts and VH1 "I Love the 90s" kind of shows, thus they get real jobs.

It was a format invented for radio: have a bunch of comedians play a parlour game in front of an audience for half an hour. Simple. Then when TV came around, they just did exactly the same thing except had better sets and wore better clothes. It's cheap and popular, great for filling up the schedules.

>>
>>80864356
that's the exact kind of shit that I think killed buzzcocks
Fielding shouldn't have been given such a major role in the show, or they shouldn't have entertained his bullshit so much
fucking hell by the time it got to the mini sketches I was so pissed off
why couldn't they just try to emulate Lamarr, it'd be a disrespectful rip off but it'd be better than what we got
Amstell was a good fit

also panel shows are entertaining enough
I kind of see it as the 'new wave' of entertainment, all this youtube reviewer, gogglebox bullshit, trying to recreate the classic whole-family-watching-tv banter and goodtimes

>8 out of 10 cats (especially does countdown)
>mock the week w/ Frankie
>QI
>have I got news for you
>big fat quiz
>a league of their own
>would I lie to you
would I lie to you is my favourite concept for a panel show but they don't do so many episodes
I feel like it's one of the few that could (and should) be done to fucking death in the same way buzzcocks was, even if they had to switch up Mitchell and Mack with guest hosts it'd be fine
>>
also it's interesting when there's an American guest on for the first time, you get a weird kind of view in to the basic difference in humour and communication styles
same for Brits on American tv, there's a definite difference in the rhythm or style of joke
love that shit
