It's funny, in the original disney movie both Gaston and The Beast were literally the fucking same, behaved equally, commit the same attrocities, etc...the only difference is that Gaston likes Belle and ignores more beautiful girls

Gaston comes off as pretty amicable in the beginning, but there is a bit of narcissism about him. Belle at the same time outright hates Gaston for no apparent reason, and decries the prospect of being someone's wife when she wants adventure.

Then Gaston does a full heel turn at about half-way into the movie out of nowhere. Meanwhile Belle decides, "Hey - maybe I do want to just be someone's wife because I can be a princess."

Gaston is pretty chill through except once he attempts to murder Belle's father by leaving him to be eaten by wolves in the woods and then lies about it later to get Maurice locked up for being nuts.
