This, motherfuckers here are too dumb to understand a simple movie.
>>80845933
The big ship engine wasn't on as it was in orbit, and then it just a matter of DeltaV. the other ship was trying to turn on its power to the engines to get out of the way but it was too late.
Also, it made for a cool scene.
Also - Tugboats.

>>80848376
>based arnie

>>80846195
There's such a thing as mass IRL
There's also the fact the star destroyed just sliced another identical destroyer in half, despite hitting each other at the same place
>>80845933
It's a plothole. They are ignoring a simple math. push energy/mass = change in velocity
A start destroyer is incredibly heavy a small ship like that would take about half an hour of constant pushing to make the star destroyer visibly move
If we consider a situation where the small ship can push it like that, it would mean the star destroyer is very light as in low mass and then two of them colliding at such low speeds would have almost no effect except some dents in the hulls
>>80850895
Now how is that a plothole?
>>80850895
It's in space ass clown. Also it's about density of matter if you want to get technical. For all we know the Hammerhead is filled with super dense material while the SD was standard ship construction.
You ever seen a tugboat btw? Space has no friction, while even an ocean has resistance.
>>80850895
We do not know the DeltaV (Push energy) of the smaller ship. due to the speeds shown in the movies, it would be assumed that these craft have a lot of DeltaV.
>>80847133
dick proenneke is pure nature kino
>>80851160
To be technical, even if the Hammerhead was very light, if it has powerful engines it could push a heavier craft. as long as it structure could handle the load.
>>80851187
Yep
>>80851160
Ah yes, I guess we can attach a couple of rockets to Earth and gtfo from the solar system, not like the rockets would crash into the earth of anything like that no.
All this bad physics
Lets say the hammerhead weighs 100 units of mass, and can accelerate 1,000 m/sec
Lets say the Star Destroyer weighs 2000 units of mass.
the Hammerhead could still push the larger star dystroyer 42 meters a second in acceleration.
in ten seconds it would be going 420 meters a second,
(Math might be a bit off, but I am not going to rack my mind on it.)
>>80851292
ok
>>80851562
Are you serious, does it look to you like the mass ratio is 20:1?
>>80850895
we'll never know since we don't know any details about mass, thrust, density
also, this is a movie where spaceships make a whooshing sound in space, and time dilation doesn't occur
>>80846275
They said ion torpedoes, which means it was hit by about a dozen EMP's at once.
>>80850789
>hitting each other at the same place
Did you even watch the webm?
>>80845933
>explosions in space
what did they mean by this?
>>80845845
There is so much wrong here!
For one thing, why is the Destroyer that's being pushed seemingly stronger than the stationary one. They should both be buckling equally but instead the one being pushed behaves like it's indestructible.
Also, any moron that's played with a newtons cradle knows that the second the destroyer made impact, the tiny ship pushing it would have received a force great enough to disintegrate it.
Furthermore, there was a time in this country when the idea of a rebel vessel smashing into two large structures, effectively killing millions would have been socially and politically unacceptable, yet here we see the "heroes" doing just that.
>>80851627
Okay, according to nerds, the Star Destroyer weighs in at 1 billion kilograms.
To move it at 2meters/second (it wasn't fast pushing it) would require 2 billion newtons.
that not unreasonable, Its about 100 Falcon 9s.
>>80851292
this is actually how Starkiller Base moves around the galaxy

She so cute.
>>80846238
I love Irish women. And I'm actually Irish.
>>80845845
R•E•M•I•N•D•E•R
The power required to move the ship in that amount of time at that speed with that amount of force would actually punch a hole into the Star Destroyer instead of moving it very much at all. If this wasn't true then the Star Destroyer would not be very damaged at all when it hit the other one.

macroscalar objects dont work the way small objects do, it takes far more mass to maintain physical integrity, and past a certain point, no amount of metal is going to hold something together, it would just deform instantly due to the weakness of the material
these large ships are probably designed to hold together under a large number of stress types, collision with another supermassive object not being one of them
