It had surprise Johnny Depp.

Wasn't bad except for dude turning into Depp out of nowhere. It just sort of took me out the movie.

I was done with Harry Potter ages ago, but I guess wouldn't mind some other stories in that universe that didn't have Harry Potter on screen.

Within the story, or just for the movie?

I think Fantastic Beasts had the benefit Harry Potter didn't by actually being written by the author. The things important to the story were kept, and because it wasn't an adaptation, it was able to pace itself without trying to cram everything in.

Also had a good cast and an interesting setting (hadn't seen NYC from a Wizarding perspective before, and certainly not the '20s).

I'd say that the biggest flaw is pretty obvious if you review the footage between 00:00:01 and 02:13:00. Queenie does not, even once, climb through the television screen and sit on my face while punching me in my swollen, bruised testicles, continuing to do so long after I've been rendered unconscious due to a lack of oxygen.

Hopefully this is corrected in the Director's Cut of the film but I won't, unfortunately, hold my breath.

It was boring. I was so hyped for the movie too. It was so weird that the evil wizard was always touching that poor kid. I tried to find it arousing like so many others did but it came off as too rapey for me. Plus, Depp reveal at end took away from imagining colin farrell.

It was fucking awful.

There was no semblance of a story (let alone a motivation for the villain), the action was so constant and began so early that I never got a chance to care about the characters - and only the two male leads got anywhere close to being likable - and the beasts were not fantastic at all, simply looking like slightly altered versions of real life animals.

Above all, it was just a soulless corporate CGI fest with very few redeeming features except for the fact that they were brave enough not to copy Harry Potter directly.

I enjoyed it more than any of the HP films. It seemed more competent, and they weren't so tied to having to consistently cast shitty wooden and hammy child actors because of a poor decision that they made in the first film. It didn't blow my mind or anything but it was entertaining and comfy. Some of the CGI was unnecessary and shit, I've seen better non-human depictions in the original Star Wars trilogy.

I appreciate this film as being one of the few that was clearly not made by focus groups. I'm surprised that there was minimal pandering and that it held up perfectly well on its own even for someone who wouldn't know shit about Harry Potter.

I hope the focus stays on the main 4 though as I find their autistic friendships comfy as fuck. The less Grindelwald/Dumbledore, the better.
