Cute

I still strongly dislike Paige, she's clueless
>>
>>80806203
more
>>
>>80806282

It's not even that she's clueless, but any time her parents answer her questions rationally she just rolls her eyes and walks away because she knows she has no counter argument, it's so frustrating.
>>
surprisingly good show
>>
>>80806579
She's just not capable of handling the truth, let alone become an asset and the worst thing is that Elizabeth is BLIND to it. She acts like a homeschooled girl sometimes, like she's never even lied before.

Henry would make a better recruit, but I think that's intentional
>>
>>80806648
>most well written drama on TV

Fuck I love everything about this show, it's so comfy
>>
>>80806799
>Henry would make a better recruit, but I think that's intentional

Remember, Season number 1 they almost get straight up murdered/molested/whatever by that creepy jock and it's Henry that had to save the day at the cost of clean pants.
>>
>>80806160
Is this show both good and mostly free of infuriating jew hollywood cuckshit?
>>
>>80806946
Yeah, Henry smashed a beer bottle against that guy's head, and he was like 10. Savage.

He's also a very natural liar, you see him make something up on the spot then quickly move on to something else, like he's bored.

Let's not forgot the time he broke into the neighbor's house to play that video game. He observed them to see where they hid their spare key and would have gotten away with it if he didn't fall asleep there.

>>
>>80807202

Nah I don't think they even had sex, they just kind of had a chill moment, or maybe I just don't like to think she'd play mind games with him at this stage, Elizabeth has become a lot more human since the season 1, especially after her mom's death, still dedicated but shit is still hard.
>>
>>80807092
It's a show about the marriage of two KGB spies. Seduction is a tool they use very often.

There's no cucking involved
>>
>>80807159
How bad are we talking?
>>
>>80807286
Ex-bf, nigger leader of the black panthers, they fuck around for a couple of episodes then dies.
That's the worst it gets and nothing even remotely similar ever happens again.
The stuff Phillip does to her emotionally is far worse cucking-wise.
>>
>>80807282

I mean general unnecessary hollywood libshit stuff injected into 90% of tv shows, not specifically cucking. I just find a lot otherwise good shows ruined by it.
>>
>>80807258
She even told Paige earlier in the episode that "You don't say everything in a relationship, you hold things back"

She's awful when it comes to relationships.
>>
>>80807325
Gregory was chill tbqh

Perfect pleb filter
>>
>>80807368
Well, yeah, she's never had a real one, she was too young when she enlisted and her first experience was rape.
Afterwards all her relationships have the lies/spy filter on them, even with Phillip.
>>
>>80807425
Yeah of course, she's a very damaged person. She obviously cares a lot about Philip considering how jealous she gets when Irina / Martha are involved, yet she's never even said "I love you" back.

I do think there's some subtle manipulation involved here. Obviously she's not working him like an asset but it's more like "Shut up silly, we're in this together"
>>
>>80807576
She keeps him more stable through sex, just a couple of years ago he was about to out them to the US to stop being a spy, so it's understandable.

I didn't even recognize him.
>>
>>80807765
Well that was different, he thought that the FBI was on them after Stan moved in, he was desperate and wanted to trade Timoshev and make a deal.

He killed him right on the spot after learning what he did to Elizabeth though, that's when their relationship started to be real.

I don't think Philip ever seriously considered defecting again
>>
>>80806203
Paige is literally the worst thing about this show. Her parents should have never involved her at all in this, it has made the plot mediocre. Also, where the fuck is Henry, the forgotten son?
>>
>>80807965
So are they hiding him bc he now looks much older than the character? Also are you 'jadenbda?'
>>
>>80808008
>>80808008
Paige is adding tension. Pastor Tim, Stan, the wedge between P&E are all linked to her. She's a timebomb and her mental breakdown is inevitable

What they are doing with her is interesting, she's pretty much breaking apart and the resolution will be most likely tragic.

I wouldn't go that far, but it's a solid show worth watching. I enjoy it a lot even with its flaws. Acting is solid, the 80s setting is maximum comfy, and it has a lot of intrigue with all the spy vs. spy stuff.

I can literally see phil killing elizabeth to keep his kids safe. Hes even thought about defecting already and know elizabeth is willing to die before she turns on russia. The kids are more important to him than anything else.

He sees whats wrong, its not the people but the system. Even in the last episode, he says they have the same thing back home but why cant they feed their people.
>>
>>80811261
That or Elizabeth will kill Phillip

Why is Elizabeth so loyal to the USSR outside muh ideology? I mean she had the same shit childhood as Phillip did, it's not like she was some bureaucrat's daughter that had a moderately prosperous life before joining the KGB
>>
>>80811309
She grew up in Smolensk after the war. Living in what is very close to a post apocalyptic city, with no father and a mother who didn't show much affection? It's understandable
>>
>>80811261
Elizabeth would put her kids above everything. Not Misha Jr though.

Philip comes after the mission, but I think it would be a hard choice for her at this point
>>
>>80807992
>I don't think Philip ever seriously considered defecting again

He came pretty close when they found out about the attempt at creating second-generation illegals
>>
>>80811513
He just told Arkady to stay the fuck away, right?
>>
>>80807113
not only this, henry's character is meant to represent someone whose own moral compass is much closer to his parents'

i know most people haven't read leftist theory here, so i'll point an interesting tidbit out: when henry explains himself to his parents, he states that he is not a bad person, he just wanted to use the machine while it wasn't being used. this is very close, in a very childlike way of course, to how infrastructure like housing would be used in a socialist world.

the irony is that elizabeth sees herself in paige a lot, while philip doesn't really give a shit or at least not enough for him to mind his children being raised as neoliberals

what i can't understand if the people writing this actually understand the ideology behind the soviet union. they often use vague notions like "do it for the motherland", when no kgb agent was doing anything for russia but rather for the communist cause as they state later on.

>>80807357
it does show libshit, from the socialist perspective. you can see the disdain elizabeth has for neoliberalism in many scenes, she even openly states it many times. so does arkady
>>
>>80808620
>I wouldn't go that far

name one better show
>>
>>80811261
> he says they have the same thing back home but why cant they feed their people

but that simply wasn't true. when capitalism got restored in russia, that's when people started starving anon

look it up
>>
>>80812933
P&E raised their children extremely poorly for a couple of KGB officers.

I do get that they're supposed to be "cool" parents, but they're letting their kids step all over them. It's strange.
>>
>>80811309
>Why is Elizabeth so loyal to the USSR outside muh ideology?

that's literally it. question is, why is stan so loyal when the system fucks him up the asshole every turn of the way?
>>
>>80811594
Yeah, but I think defection was implied.

I mean if they just dropped off the face of the Earth the KGB would send other illegals to track them down and kill them
>>
>>80813089
they cannot really do much. if they raised class-conscious kids and taught them marxist values etc, all it would take is for them to say something to a teacher or some stupid shit and their cover would be blown. on the other hand, since the center wanted 2nd generation spies, that should have been specified to p&e before they even went to the us. they neglect their kids, let them absorb american ideology, then someone explain paige to turn uberproletarian in her 14.
>>
>>80813138
"If you ever come close to my daughter me and my wife are finished"

Philip didn't seriously think about defecting, he knew that Arkady would back off - they're too important.
>>
>>80812933
>when henry explains himself to his parents, he states that he is not a bad person, he just wanted to use the machine while it wasn't being used. this is very close, in a very childlike way of course, to how infrastructure like housing would be used in a socialist world.

I think you're reading too much into it. Henry insisting he was still a good person even after he broke into another person's house was meant to relate to how the Jennings view themselves as essentially good people "forced" to do bad things to protect their homeland from capitalist aggression etc
>>
>>80813212
The center being disconnected from reality is a key theme of the show. Like when Reagan was shot in S1, they thought that a coup was underway or the crop storyline this season ( I'm 99% sure that the US are just trying to develop some pest resistant crops, not poison the USSR)
>>
>>80813212
>on the other hand, since the center wanted 2nd generation spies, that should have been specified to p&e before they even went to the us

I get the impression that second-generation illegals were only considered after how successful the first-generation illegals were - I mean last season their handler was pretty insistent that it was time for the Jennings to return to the USSR
>>
I never really got how the second-gen illegals program was supposed to work. "Oh by the way, Junior. Your mom and I are KGB agents and we need you to infiltrate X agency and become a spy too."

Also, I miss Arkady and the rezidentura antics.
>>

>>80813736
They weren't supposed to become full on spies like P&E, more like very valuable assets working a quiet clerk job at the CIA or FBI. Like, Paige would have taken Martha's job.
>>
>>80813282
not at all, read the dialogue carefully. he insisted that he just wanted to use it when it was being unused, and the fact that he didn't steal anything or cause harm got stated like 3 times

>>80813362
>The center being disconnected from reality is a key theme of the show

both those examples are just cold war paranoia, the us also had many incidents they mistook for ussr aggression

>>80813496
>get the impression that second-generation illegals were only considered after how successful the first-generation illegals were

still, they could have assigned them the task of turning henry who was at a much more susceptible age.

And the Jennings believe that the things they do are justified in defense of their homeland - both actions (breaking into a house/the various illegal shenanigans Phillip and Elizabeth get up to) are morally wrong, but both Henry and P&E feel that the actions are justifiable ("no-one was using the game system"/"if we don't [activity that involves this season's McGuffin] the US will have another advantage over the USSR, possibly leading to the deaths of millions and the destruciton of the USSR")

but they aren't. there is no such thing as morality, it's a bourgeoisie spook and p&e should be written to know this. there is nothing wrong or right, only wrong for you and right for you. what p&e are doing is wrong for the person that gets played or killed, but good for the world proletariat. what henry did is literally wrong for no one, since he caused 0 harm in any sense to anyone.

>>
>>80815377
it's true though. morals are only in place to keep the status quo in place, and since the the substructure always produces the superstructure, the bourgeoisie reproduce their ideology on society to keep the status quo as is. so he will make you think owning a factory is a "right", while the workers claiming the value of their own labor back is "theft" and "immoral" and will be met with state violence (which people like you will applaud most likely). at the same time though, when you're told that people in the ussr were prosecuted for being capitalists and nazis, you exclaim that that's also immoral, even though your own government engages in the exact same type of ideological warfare but on the bourgeoisie's behalf. it's come to the point that people like you think that 2 hypothetical spies like the jennings killing what, 20 people per year, is "immoral" while actively condoning your government murdering millions abroad for profit wars as "fighting for freedom", and you applaud paid murderers as "brave men that fight for your freedom". your morality is just an illusion anon, what you get from this show through your ideological lense is that the jennings are the bad guys, when the show clearly shows shit like the us training contras in nicarague, training the taliban in afghanistan etc. But you just sift through that, you can't even make the connection that the afghanis they talk about in the americans are the people that did 9/11 a few years later.
