The show problems go much deeper than the lead. There really isn't any aspect of the show that is done well. Camerawork, direction, story, script, casting, acting, fight choreography, music, set pieces, you name it. Even the intro to the show is cheap garbage. The entire thing is obviously thrown together. It's an imitation of a TV show. Marvel wanted to see how dumb there fans were to know just how far they could lower the bar to make even money.

Jessica Jones and Luke Cage became somewhat of the Marvel "first family" replacing the Fantastic Four and the fucking world started to revolve around Cage's daughter. That' meant that Iron Fist got a free ride for a while.

There is still worse to come, Namor got hyped up during that time, and so did a shitty crimelord called Parker Robbins who got some mystical relics. It's also the reason why out of all the X men Marvel only bothered to try to get back the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, and even then killed the guy almost immediately, Bendis has a huge hard on for Wanda.

They should have just went with this story line and adapted it to fit in.

Goddamn this series was shit. How you manage to take a character who's whole thing is that he's amazing at martial arts and goes up against pretty much nothing but other people who are amazing at martial arts and give him the WORST fight scenes out of all the Netflix/Marvel series is beyond me.

Everything felt so goddamn weightless and floaty. Normally you can see a few punches or moves that look like stunt work in a whole fight scene, but with this show it was like 95% of the fighting.

1) "You are what you eat" is actually quite apt. Obviously it's not as cut-and-dry as that, but in order to become big and muscular you need to eat a lot of calories, particularly protein. Now, from what we were told about MAGICKUNGFUPALACE it doesn't seem like he was eating a particularly high-protein diet.

2) You have to actually use your muscles for them to develop. This is usually done by visiting the gym these days - but other physical activity that utilises and stresses the muscles will work too. However, as previously noted, Danny Rand was taught early on to use his Chi, not his muscles. He moves his body, sure, but the actual energy or strength or power from his attacks are not coming from his muscles.

Combining points 1 & 2 and it's perfectly understandable that his body will not be very muscular, despite being quite skilled in a fight.

Now with all that said he definitely should have looked better, it is TV after all - he doesn't need to be Daredevil-esque or anything, just a bit more muscle and a bit less body fat would have been fine

There's also a side plot about Hydra trying to blow the whole thing up, and the true arc beyond the tournament is that most of the leaders of the 8 cities are breaking rules and creating gateways to earth so they can come and go as they please - something that is basically the highest sin for the cities of heaven.

Oh and Danny blows up a train full of explosives sent by HYDRA to destroy the entire 8 cities since they're all connected during this time...for...reasons.

Then there's a backup story of like 3-4 pages that detail the lives of other various Iron Fists throughout the ages.

Probably would be better for a second season, after thinking and typing this all out.

The only thing that's similar is the whole martial arts tournament among the various realms.

But instead of realms it's the different cities of Heaven, and it's not for the right to own an entire dimension or whatever like in Mortal Kombat. It's basically just bragging rights and dick swinging for 88 years until the next fight.
