Why would Cameron have done this? It was 7 years between T1 and T2. At the earliest, to give Cameron time to give his best, it'd have been done around '96. The story itself isn't that bad, it's the pacing/editing, acting/casting, and CGI sequences (fucking helicopter looking like a vidya cut scene). The idea that we willingly give up our most secret things and privacy away for social recognition, and that that could be taken advantage of easily, is neat. It does though. Remember Salvation happens in a post-T3 future where humanity made it through Judgement Day more intact than the did in the future seen in T1.

Even if he was a guy who knew an uncanny amount about Skynet, what caused the apocalypse and how to fight the machines, John Connor was still a civilian. He didn't get to just take over the Resistance from the actual military that survived.

Although that probably would have changed since Skynet blew Ironside the fuck up.
