451236 starts with Luke being the hero, then discovering the truth of his father. We spend some time with Anakin before his fall and then get two conclusions together to wrap things up. Throne room battle and Vader's redemption is very satisfying this way.
>>
>>80676319
>Truth is: why watch ANY of the prequels?

I think 3 and to a lesser extent 2 gives you a look back at Anakin, how he was a whiny little bastard with a tragic past just like Luke, and how it went so horribly wrong for him. It's a nice setup for Episode 6 where Luke tries to redeem him. I think the best way to do it would be to cut and edit episodes 2 and 3 together into just one movie, maybe 100 minutes long combined. Remove most of the fluff, silly stuff like the alien diner, kamino, Boba Fett Sr., the Grievous vs Obi-Wan fight, some of the more egregiously bad romance scenes, but keep enough scenes to convey the barebones outline of the story.

Break it down into two segments. The first 40 minutes or so are everything that happens in 2, the remaining 60 is the conclusion of 3 (again, cut to remove the worst shit).
>>

Rogue One can be watched whenever you want after 4

the prequels are shitty films and only worth watching so you can properly meme on /tv/, but do NOT watch them until you've seen the entirety of the original trilogy.

Lucas made the first Star Wars movie without knowing he was going to make 5, 6, 1, 2, or 3. He thought "Star Wars" (that's all it was called back then, no "New Hope" or "Episode 4") was going to flop. Then when he discovered that he had struck gold he had the foresight to slap "Episode 4" on the end of it and get to work on the rest.

>>80676557
Episode 1 is completely pointless. You're right about the throne room battle though, that was unironically a nice bit of "poetry" by Lucas.

Yes you skip watching the clone wars when rewatching the movies.
>>
>>80676571
You could honestly cut episode 2 down to 20 minutes. So much of it is so unnecessary to the main story. We don't even need to see Anakin and Padme falling in love. Just start the whole movie with the arena scene.
>>
Honestly, if you think about it, by the time the sequel trilogy concludes the /definitive/ order to watch will be an extended version of Machete Order i.e. 4>5>1>2>3>6>7>8>9 because it emphasizes Luke the most. (see >>80676557 if you need clarification)

Yes. Also, Zahn's trilogy isn't canon anymore.

>Yes, I'm asking about first watch. Are they too childish?

Yeah, I really think they are. Personally I love Star Wars, but objectively they're not very good movies, with the exceptions of 4, 5, and to a lesser extent (which are very solid action-adventure flicks). The majority of the Star Wars movies and tv shows out there are just plain bad.

The Stars Wars fanbase is divided into groups of people claiming one movie or another is shit and awful. And basically, more often than not, the real reason for their claims comes down to "was I under 18 when the movie was made"? There's a really obvious generational split. The oldest (basically 40+) only like the originals, people from about 20 to 40 often like the prequels even though they're not that good, and the youngest, those poor retards, they thought Episode 7 was a good movie.

Oh, they're all great in their own awful way. Don't get me wrong, I read the shit out of Star Wars books (in secret so my friends wouldn't find out and laugh at me). I still love the scene in the Rogue Squadron series where they convince Wes Jansen that a deranged Ewok is on the loose in a Star Destroyer and the only way for him to catch it is to strip naked and cover himself in Ewok food. Classic stuff.

>>
>>80677485
Not exactly. I'm distinguishing between "Star Wars fans" and "people who went to see Star Wars". The difference can basically be boiled down to a 5-year gap in when you lost your virginity.

The average person who went to see Star Wars and said "fun, Star Wars is back! Exhilarating, JJ Abrams has done it again!", I'm not talking about those people. I'm talking about the faggots who had lightsaber duels with their friends when they were kids.

I don't want to say the movies are childish, but when I watched them I recognized I would have loved it if I watched them as a kid. But 24 year old adult me just saw 70s special effects with bad dialogue and a piss poor story that has endlessly been spoiled by pop culture my entire life.

Your posted Star Wars series orders are:
"6875309" which you later corrected to "8675309"
Both of which imply that your ideal Star Wars viewing order includes an "Episode Zero".

I expect your next response will be either another non-sequitar or an implication that the ZERO in between 3 and 9 in the "309" section of both your posts is not an indication of Episode Zero at all, and when confronted you will give a vague answer of "well.... it's obvious what I meant isn't it?"

A MESS

How can you watch those movies as anything but dumb action if you're watching it like that? RO and 7 are entirely unnecessary to the story, at least until they finish the trilogy, in which case 7 may become relevant to the story but likely won't, and RO will never be necessary or relevant to the story. Besides, 7 and RO are Star Wars in name only. And I don't just mean because Lucas wasn't there. Lucas is a fucking retard who got lucky and made a few good movies despite their shitty storylines and scripts. I mean that 7 is tonally fucked to the point where it's not even a Star Wars movie. Everybody is a comic relief character and they have some happy adventures before they blow up the death star at the end and it gets all sad and serious because Han dies. It isn't like Star Wars at all, and the themes are completely different from Star Wars. Meanwhile, Rogue One was in no way a Star Wars movie. It worked okay as a war movie, but to watch it in a lineup with 4-6 is fucking retarded because they're not even in the same genre.

I really think that parts of episodes 2 and 3 should be included. Not the whole movies, of course, but certain scenes, if properly cut together, could provide a nice little 45-minute "flashback" that fleshes out Anakin's story a bit and gives a little context to Luke's struggle with the Dark Side in Episode 6.

If somebody watches Episodes 4 and 5, and actually enjoys it, then I would definitely recommend watching the last 30 minutes of Episode 2 and more or less the entirety of Episode 3.

This is the one true order.

Episode IV: A New Hope
Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (skip any scene with Grievous)
Episode VI: Return of the Jedi

If you really enjoyed these movies, then you should go watch Episode I, Episode II, and Rogue One. If you really loved *those* movies, then you clearly have a tolerance for utter shit, and I would happily recommend that you start working your way through the Star Wars Expanded Universe Books. I'm personally a big fan of the audiobooks of the NJO series and Legacy of the Force, I used to listen to them in secret late at night or on flights to other parts of the state for the HS baseball championships and they were terrific.
>>
Most people are Plebs and think Episode 4 is just plain boring and old.
So you start with 3. The visuals still hold up pretty well and it is a competently made film actually.
After that you show them Rogue One to make a bridge to the OT.
Now they are on your bait and want to know what happens next. So now you show them 4 5 and 6.
If they like Star Wars now you can go with 1 and 2.

Maybe you can even start with 7 because dumb action and funny quips will make them realise it's just as the capeshit they love so much. And then you show them whatever you want.
