This is 2000. Computer's are just starting to become a thing and kids are watching more Nick or Cartoon Network rather than waiting for a kid block on Saturday.

Saban sells them in 2002 to Disney, and at that point is when the Saturday Morning Kids remains in heavy decline with all the others dying out by 2006-7 and Disney holding on till about 2009.

The joke is that Disney wanted Power Rangers just so they could make a cartoon based on the original series, which Toei literally told them "fuck off" to and then Disney's focus testers (which remember, this was during the era where Disney was going full retard) didn't like how violent the show was, so Disney basically put the show on the back burner and never tried to make it big again before Saban eventually buys it back. Saban's current issue is he doesn't have a channel with enough of a viewer base to make it HUGE again, which is why he's hoping the movie will save everything
