I wonder how many old people suffer with death anxiety in silence?

Nobody ever consults with them. They probably don't want to burden others with their fears, and are most likely reluctant to discuss them. They know their days are numbered, they have very little time left, I'm sure it must terrify many of them.

We assume that because they've lived long and are falling apart physically, that they must be mature enough to accept what's coming to us all eventually.

I bet they are suffering in silence, all alone with nobody to listen to them. At least most of them tend to be religious, which probably alleviates it slightly.
>>

Wow super interesting and unique discovery, Op
>>
>>80609498

My uncle just passed 60. He's a borderline 1% biker whom I am 90% sure has murdered someone in his life. He says he never expected to live past 50 with the link for he's lived so he spends most of his waking life porking lonely milfs and making them pay for his wine, Brandy, and cigars.

A lot of old people I know just don't care. Hell, I'm only pushing 30 and don't care. I get excited when I feel a new pain in my body because I think it might be all over soon. I drift from job to job, crashing on family and friends couches.
>>
>>80609498
My dad talks a lot about getting old, not in a joking way but more about not being able to do certain things anymore, pains in his body. Very saddening to hear from a person that raised you and taught you things. I think he thinks about death a lot, but I don't think that's really something you talk to someone about .
>>
>>80609971
>I think he thinks about death a lot, but I don't think that's really something you talk to someone about .

It's a private suffering.

Same, my dad used to do the joking about being old stuff when he was in his 40s and early 50s but now he's 63 and he talks seriously about feeling his body breaking down. It hurts seeing the man you used to go running around the neighborhood with struggling to climb the steps in his own home.

this is why you need to do two things as early as possible

1) accept the inevitable fact of your death one day along with the death of everyone you ever knew
2) find a way of reconciling yourself to it
>>
>>80612444
The phase "fail at life" means absolutely nothing when subhumans like kardashians and pewdiepies and athletes and religious people who sit satisfied in cubicles are the measure for "success." Apathy is a perfectly valid response to the pointless horrid drudgery that life is, where you're either born lucky or not. Unlucky People should burden their worthless parents as much as possible. After all those are the pieces of shit who forced you into existence. Bonus points if there's a clearly definable genetic aspect or consequence of bad parenting in your unhappiness.

>>80610840
>Trust me, when you actually get for real sick or injured you'll suddenly have a whole lot of living left to do.

That's just deeply rooted instinct, it has nothing to do with rationality. Death is still logically preferable to any life that isn't exceptionally privileged.
>>
>>80614340
I think your apathy is fine to have. People think that life is what you make of it. But when I see the horrible horrible things that happen to hard-working kind people just trying to make a living, it's apparent that this is a cruel amoral world. The wicked are rewarded. The good die young. People are born deformed and retarded. Children get bone cancer. Families die because some prick truck driver tries to run a light. Things are not going to get better. The suffering will never end.

That isn't how life works though. There's diminishing returns after a certain point. For example, if you're an 8/10 in looks, your entire life will be effortless easy mode, with only marginal benefit from increasing to 9/10.
>>
You want logic?

Happiness and peace can come from within if you find and nurture it. You can't see the struggle of others as easily as their victories so projecting your own life onto that of others is a sure way to get depressed.
>>
So what do you think death is like?

I stay up some nights thinking what the very last seconds of life would be like.
>>
Asshole good point.
>>
>>80618064
>can come from within

Key word "can." So if you're short and ugly for example, the only way to live a happy life is to persevere and be literally millions of times mentally stronger than any good looking person is. Thousands upon thousands of hours spent meditating and learning to control every aspect of your thoughts so that you effectively exist in a detached reality, separate from instinct and base psychology. And that's just to have the basic amount of contentment that other people are handed on a silver platter at birth. I don't know, that sounds like a raw deal. That's when you flip the board over and say "I'm not playing, fuck you."
>>
>>80618024
not really, plenty of 8/10s in shitty jobs out there. You are still the lowest common denominator in a services sector without intelligence or a skillset.
>>
I am trying to troll You, Am I having any success?
>>
>>80618082
That obviously depends entirely on the circumstances of the death. If you die while you're asleep, for example, or get blindsided by a devastating injury, you die without ever being aware anything was amiss in the first place, which is interesting.
>>
>>80618158
That doesn't fucking matter, people still worship the ground you walk on and hand you everything, especially social validation which means low cortisol and a constant flow of dopamine. Any 8/10 with a bad job is a truly worthless person, similar to an able-bodied person getting benched in a game of wheelchair basketball.
>>

>if you're an 8/10 in looks, your entire life will be effortless easy mode

I can't claim to be 8/10,but I am a decent looking 6'2 guy who is a part time bodybuilder and that is simply untrue. While I have easier time making friends, when it comes to business life,it does not work to my advantage because sometimes you will encounter some person with prejudice that will make your life miserable because they perceive you as more popular and now they are in the position of power.
>>
>>80618504
It is true, you just have no perspective on how infinitely harder it is for people less fortunate than you are. You experience minor struggles so you interpret that as difficulty without considering that people worse looking than you have those same minor struggles compounded thousands of times over. Also face and height are the only two things that matter, with face taking precedence once you reach average height. If your face isn't 8/10 then you're not experiencing the real easy mode.

Yeah because people are held hostage by empathy for their family members and by evolutionary safeguards against suicide developed over billions of years. That doesn't mean they have anything at all to live for. Wanting to die isn't like standing at a cliff edge, only needing to embrace gravity. It's like being locked in a prison cell with the key beyond the bars at a distance you can't reach unless you rip your arm out and use it for extension.

>>
>>80615426
Yup. Someone here said it's the fear of unknown, but it really is the fear of known when you come to realisation that society, religion and every other social construct is a way of giving meaning to life in order to cope with death, not the physical one but the thinking one that's in your brain. Self-preservation instincts kick in and give you a hell of a panic attack, with you simply wishing to exist beyond death.
>>
>>80618712
Are they held hostage by empathy? Or does it only feel that way because they have linked their personalities so heavily with negativity that any positive feelings will be quickly rationalized into something terrible.

Negativity and rationality are the same. It's inherently meaningless when a privileged person discusses the merits of being alive, the same as someone who just took a recreational dose of ADD meds. No one gives a shit what you think if you're riding a constant high of social validation that makes things seem worth doing, that makes accomplishments seem worth having. And yes, empathy is a hostage situation. Not only are you mocked by society for being empathetic as a male, to the point where you have to hide your true self from everyone, but most success today is obtained through a complete disregard for other people.

Me being the first one, the second post you linked has a truth that you either don't see or don't want to admit. You are privileged too.

>Not only are you mocked by society for being empathetic as a male, to the point where you have to hide your true self from everyone, but most success today is obtained through a complete disregard for other people.

Society doesn't do that, the small part you interpret might. The alternative to morphing yourself into something that fits with your surrounding is creating your own small society that values the things you value by finding like-minded people. I'm not sure if you are looking for happiness, but if you are: the thing you don't want to do is loathe in your own sadness and accept it as an unchangeable force.

There is nothing inherently positive or negative about being alive, but our emotions allow it (and everything that comes with it) to become either.
>>
>>80619392
>It's inherently meaningless when a privileged person discusses the merits of being alive

How do you figure?
>Not only are you mocked by society for being empathetic as a male
Where? Who?
>but most success today is obtained through a complete disregard for other people.
What do you define as success?
>>
>>80609498
it's so terrifying, that's why religion was made. It's a way to ease peoples fears. So they can believe in a "happy ever after" once they die. Sadly, the reality is, is that you simply stop existing. There is nothing beyond this. You don't remember what life was like before your were born, that's because there was nothing, and once you die, you are gone forever. That's the harsh, yet beautiful reality of being alive.
