>God, this hair thing.. If he ever comes back on screen, they'll have to say that Jack's been away for a few thousand years to explain the aging.
They'll just put a wig on him. He already wore a wig on S2 or S3 of Arrow (because they asked him if he could change his hairstyle, and then decided it was too much of a change).

And honestly, I doubt he's going to go very long before he starts coloring it again. No matter how much he as a person may want to get used to his natural hair color, he's also an actor, and he wants to work, and he's not going to get Distinguished Elderly Gentleman roles, he's going to get Fabulous John Barrowman roles.

Rare Miles is intriguing, and I do know a bit, but could I ask why? It definitely didn't end well...

>>80609732
Definitely, yeah. Whether the actual Lovecraft lore that was tied in during the VNAs, or just similar godlike levels of being like Fenric and Sutekh - in fact old HP himself would make a good historical guest star.

Purely my morbid curiosity. I'm a relative newcomer to the works of Lawrence Miles, and I'm kinda super fascinated by him as a person. I've done a ton of searching in his old interviews, and it's driving me batty that I can't find anything more specific than "he was engaged, but it didn't end well".
>>
>>80610381
Ah, ok. That's his fiance in your pic - she was called Gwyn, a massive Five era fan (had a tattoo of Davison and Turlough iirc) who went to the Fitzroy in the early 2000s. Don't know how they met exactly, given Miles's general issues getting along with people, but early in 2006 she blogged an engagement announcement, which is where that pic and a few similar ones originally come from. Then that autumn she posts again to say they've broken up, something about him being scared of commitment - apparently Loz told her by email. *Despite being a GOAT writer he really can be autistic at times). Pity really, she seemed nice.

Just watch the damn show until you envy the dead (Doctor Who is a fucking shit and I say it as a fan)
>>
>>80610948
It really only takes one troll to make it look like a shitshow, and he did it like three times. But each time, nobody else got dragged in, and it was over in two minutes, and people just carried on talking around him. Less hassle than the guy who posts that copypasta about don't come to /tv/ anymore because moot whatever.
>>
>>80612281
It's a bit like Star Trek in the "strange new worlds" sense, but instead of Kirk and Spock there's a weird British alien who morphs into a new form (actor) every so often and instead of the Enterprise there's an old police call box.

Actually, just watch this Craig Ferguson sketch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9P4SxtphJ4

There's literally nothing Doctor Who fans like more than telling other people which episodes are the best ones. So, ask her which ones you should watch, then watch them, then thank her for her recommendations and have long discussions with her about them, and you're in.

>Be Master, travel to Earth to keep your best friend entertained by enacting evil plots for him to stop because you know he'd die of boredom otherwise

>Defend your best friend against his evil self seeking to steal his regeneration's in the court of law

>Sacrifice yourself and tell your best friend to ''Get outta the way'' saving your best friend from Death at the hands of Rassilon.

>Be evil, but in a twisted way see what your best friend is trying to acomplish, ''saving people'' so you build an army of cybermen for your best friend to control and save countless worlds with.

Sure you try and ''kill'' your best friend but it's all a dangerous game and you don't intend to really kill him permanently

Conclusion:
.
The Doctor doesn't deserve the Master as a friend at all.

When the Slitheen are unzipping, why do the characters just stand and watch them, as opposed to just running the fuck away?

It must take a Slitheen at least 1 minute to completely unwrap itself from the skinsuit.

Decide to finally get into big finish after the shit show that was season 9. So /tv/ what are the best big finish stories I should pick up?
>>
>>80622698
The Chimes of Midnight
Jubilee
>>
>>80622698
Depends, do you just want to flit around different stories, or settle into an arc/series?

Like >>80622726
^this anon recommended, I wouldn't listen to The Chimes of Midnight without hearing Storm Warning first. You'll be fine just listening to Jubilee by itself though.
>>
>>80622698
Everything by Robert Shearman especially Chimes of Midnight is mindblowing.

My favourite Big Finish audio of all time is A Death in the Family but it's rather continuity heavy.
>>
>>80622747
I don't mind listening to an arc/series
>>
>>80622802
If you have Spotify, the first 50 Main Range Big Finish stories with Doctors 5,6,7,8 are available on there. As well as the four part I, Davros series which is great.
>>
>>80622802
Then I'd recommend the Eighth Doctor audios, they're more arc-based with more continuity, like the TV show. You could try his first few stories with his companion Charley:

Storm Warning
Sword of Orion
Stones of Venice
Minuet in Hell
Invaders from Mars
The Chimes of Midnight (absolute classic)
Seasons of Fear (really great)
Embrace the Darkness
The Time of the Daleks
Neverland (strong "season finale" type deal)

You'll have a pretty good idea whether you like that era/style of audios from those ones.

Alternatively you could try his "Eighth Doctor Adventures", with the companion Lucie. The first series of those is

Blood of the Daleks, Pt 1
Blood of the Daleks, Pt 2
Horror of Glam Rock
Immortal Beloved
Phobos
No More Lies
Human Resources, Pt 1
Human Resources, Pt 2

I don't like those as much, but they're a lot more like the (modern) TV show.

Also, >>80622900

Some people are annoyed by casual attitude to the implied sex slavery, and apparently accents are also bad.
>>
>>80623321
I didn't take it as endorsing the sex slavery in the slightest, and honestly it kinda blew my mind to hear a Doctor Who story deal with more adult stuff like that. I also really liked the weird pseudo-future American setting. The Brigadier was great fun. It's just a very distinctive story. I can see why Americans mightn't like it as much, as the accents were pretty naff.

I want her to think I am already into the show though. How many doctors have their been?

Honestly I tried watching a bit on BBC america last night and this shit is awful, but I was lost.
>>
>>80624444
>How many doctors have their been?

Around 12, but of the modern series, around 4.

Good starting points are 2005's "Series 1" with Christopher Eccleston, or 2010's "Series 5" with Matt Smith. If you're really strapped for time, you might get by with starting with "Series 8" with the current Doctor, Peter Capaldi, but I think you'd be a bit lost doing that. Series 1 and 5 are the best starting points.

>but I was lost.

Nothing weird about that, some of the seasons are more confusing and reliant on continuity than others. It's a serial show, not a procedural, even though it does a lot of "monster of the week" type stuff.

I do a bit of both.

When I first saw a pirate source for Big Finish 1-100, I checked to see how much it would cost to fill in all the gaps in my collection over the first few years. I got annoyed that I couldn't use a subscription discount to buy batches of episodes unless they were in order. So I pirated them.

And then I felt guilty, but it seemed stupid to buy the stories that I already had, so…I bought a subscription pack of all the Judge Dredd CDs so far, which happened to add up to the exactly price I thought I should have paid for the Who CDs. And I never listened to them. I think I lent one to a friend and never got it back, and I've still got the rest in a box in storage.

And all these years later, I keep following the same stupid pattern, because I'm an idiot.

One good option is to pick up these:

Eye of the Scorpion: 5/Peri/Erimem
Marian Conspiracy: 6/Evelyn
Harvest: 7/Ace/Hex
Storm Warning: 8/Charley
Silver Turk: 8/Mary
Blood of the Daleks: 8/Lucie

See which TARDIS team you like the best, then start following that team.

As soon as you get to one you don't like, listen to Holy Terror to sort of cleanse your palette—it's great, and doesn't connect up to anything else. Shadow of the Scourge and Spare Parts also work for that. Jubilee is part of the Six/Evelyn story, but can be listened to separately if you're not going to follow them.

It's not just the American accents that are terrible. The American politics were far more ridiculous—which makes a difference in a story that is, in part, a satire of American politics.

I wish they'd just adapted the (pretty good) original AV version with better actors (and a female companion) and better production values. Or, if they really wanted to rip off the most famous Avengers episode, just do that. Why make it a story about the American religious right when your knowledge of the American religious right is based on one movie you saw 20 years ago?

They're using a stock caricature of small-town politics, but it's supposed to be a whole state. This would be like if you adapted the Wicker Man, but the island wasn't a community of a few hundred people, it was Ireland.

Forming a new state out of the middle of existing states is implausible, but the idea that a Scottish guy would be helpful in doing so, even more so. Imagine if Nicola Sturgeon gave up on Scotland and instead decided to take the Lowlands and Yorkshire and make them into a new country. And she invited an American to help her organize it. And the most powerful MP from Yorkshire decided to stop her by helping her create this new state but then running against her to lead it.

If your support comes entirely from deluded fundamentalist Christians, you don't name your state Malebolgia.

>How do you Identify in relation to gender? *

>>80637221
I don't know what their sales look like, but I'm guessing a lot of them come from people who spend far more than any reasonable subscription price (say, £300/year), and a lot of them come from people who only buy a handful of releases and would never spend that much, and not that many come from people who spend £100-200/year but would be willing to upgrade to £300 for everything. If so, they'd lose a lot of money.

But maybe if they didn't make anything available for streaming until a few months after it came out, the big spenders would keep spending, and even some of the moderate types would buy an occasional new release on top of the streaming subscription if they'd heard good hype about it?

It's not that hard, or expensive, to set up and run a standalone paid audio streaming service at the volume, uptime, and DRM requirements Big Finish would have.

So I'm sure they've thought about it and decided not to do it. Probably because they think it would cost more sales than it would add.

Wait, British amateurs can just just send unsolicited scripts and the script editor will actually read them and comment on them and there's a chance they might even get produced?

Adric's trousers mathematically maximize the sum of all pleasure, minus the sum of all suffering, that results from wearing trousers.

And they're baggy, which I'm sure is also somehow connected to Jeremy Bentham, but I'm not sure how because I was only a philosophy major for two semesters.

The 2014 license extension was specifically written so they could use anything up to but not including the Twelfth Doctor era.

I'm pretty sure if Briggs said, "Ha ha, you wrote the fine print wrong so I can technically use Capaldi" they'd just reply, "OK, I guess we'll just cancel the license entirely then. Have fun with Benny."

"We are not strangers.. eternity and I."

Totally not a Tenth Doctor line but still a cool one. Yeah, it was pretty fucking dark. Just the concept of people shooting themselves with Time Reavers to extend feelings of pleasure, or the converse in hostility, is really intense.

He should've said, "Oh, w~ell, you know me — I'm no stranger to eternity. Allons-y!"

>Remember when they used to have a policy against being self referential with the name in classic who?
I do remember the JNT interview where he complained about the Doctor Who? running joke and the Doctor signing his name Dr. W and the credits listing him as Doctor Who instead of The Doctor.

But that was a few months after Logopolis and a few months before K9 and Company, both of which made the joke. And they continued to use it at least once per Doctor for the rest of the JNT era (off the top of my head, Black Orchid, Attack of the Cybermen, Silver Nemesis). And when Bessie returned in Battlefield, the license plate had changed from "WHO1" to "WHO 7", which is as meta-self-referential as anything Moffat ever did. And then there's the TV show in Remembrance of the Daleks.

So I never thought it was a serious rule.

Horror of Fang Rock was demotivational in the extreme since the DVD was old and never got a "remaster" edition. Did The Caves of Androzani come after that or before? Thought Caves was the resurrection in celebration of Hell Bent and the Doctor's great suffering.

But yeah, have been working in the other area (GCCX) for a while. Rescued a 1 TB drive that went temporarily dead also (had half the DVD9 source material on it) so things are looking good.

Ripping is harder than in the early days since film and video segments have to be identified and isolated by hand. But more rips will come. Now that /vr/ has admitted that they are in fact the fags, not PA, the work can continue.

It's pretty much a fuckton of audiobooks and ebooks on a private tracker. Probably the biggest library of stuff on the internet other than Libgen. Sometimes people also upload Advanced Reader Copies of books.

It has 309,360 torrents. You can get an invite by sitting an easy interview.

Bibliotik is smaller but incredibly elite and almost impossible to get into and has 261,038 torrents specialising in retail ebooks.
>>
>>80658827
Obviously with private trackers you have to upload to download but with MAM it's easy to cheese with bonus points - you don't actually need to upload just seed keep random small books seeding and convert it into 'upload'. But they have better retention than private trackers.

There are numerous secret societies with megas for doctor who audio stuff but they're very secretive.
>>

There are also two VK groups.
One is secret which you can't get into without being russian and one is public and gets posted here often.
>>
>>80658963
>There are numerous secret societies with megas for doctor who audio stuff but they're very secretive.

Sounds very very tantalising but if they're that exclusive a lowly /who/ anon has no chance of getting in, I guess I'll just go for the MAM interview. Probably a good idea to go for it anyway, people uploading ARCs sounds pretty great.

>>80658996
Yeah I've got some stuff from the public one but while good, it's not exhaustive. And I'm Aussie not Russian so I have no chance with the secret one.
