I totally agree that all Norton specials in the past have sucked miserably but I did see this one as a marked improvement and thought it was actually pretty funny. First 5 minutes of his set is a little same-old-shit but it gets moving after that

O&A is a unique thing because of how several household name comedians (now) were on there consistently before being known nationally. Bill Burr, Louis CK, Patrice to a much smaller degree, Jim Gaffigan / Brian Regan / Jeff Ross when they were on terrestrial radio.

Nothing will beat the roasts they used to do of each others old comedy tapes for me. It's something that would be very hard to recreate organically like it played out for them

Years of doing nothing but morning radio, stand-up spots, edging at a computer screen and fucking prostitutes have made his stand-up style really, really limited. He hasn't had any meaningful long-term relationships because his personality is so freakish. He hasn't traveled outside the US. He doesn't have any hobbies or interests to speak of. I don't think he even has much close contact with his family. This lifestyle has pretty much put his comedy writing in stasis for the last two decades. This is why his peers like Burr and Louis CK have grown, developed and utterly surpassed him. I don't even think of Norton as a comedian, he's more of a radio personality that happens to do stand-up.

I believe things could've ended better if Ant ever had the balls to stand up to Opie, they could've work out their differences and continue their partnership in mutual respect to each other. Instead he was just "don't make waves" pussy kinda guy, just like he was in his marriage, which over the years led to passive-aggressive resentment between them and eventually death of the show. Ant outgrew Opie and they both knew that.
Opie also has personal faults, but he always seemed to have more professional attitude in the entire situation. You can't work in harmony for too long with someone who doesn't respect you.

Just because you're funny in conversation, that doesn't necessarily translate to performance. You can say the same for just about every comic that's been on Tough Crowd, with a few exceptions.

never saw the guy's stand up before and I usually hate the ones that aren't like the best ones out there. there were some annoying over-the-top sex jokes but he even knocked those out of the park sometimes

what I found rather interesting was that he was able to be very honest and not go too far up the sjw route while talking about the trannies. If his other shows are like this I might consider watching them

Definitely an improvement. He wasn't comfortable at all in his last two specials, which is a shame, since he's one of the most naturally funny human beings on this earth
