It's such a shitty design. Not even the toy, the in-movie version looks like shit too. It's a really generic and just plain bad design. It's not iconic or recognizable. It's just bayformer elements mixed with pacific rim elements. The color placement is awful. I hate this whole "giant blue/purple windows" on the suits and the zords. Hollywood has access to some of the best artists in the world and this is what they came up with. I guess a producer's nephew's cg/art company needed the work. Looks like some dumb shit deviantart would come up with for a redesign.
