Disney is retarded for not releasing RO first

RO could have been a great appetizer for the main event, proof that Star Wars is back to form, a great way to play on nostalgia, and could have provided some extra time for TFA production. RO should have been the only one to be similar to the OT.

yeah they suuuure botched the relaunch of Star Wars

In the end, the fan theories end up being way better than the actual product.
>>
Rogue one was a top movie, I agree it would have set a different setting especially as being the first "new" start wars movie.

TFA was just a beat for beat remake of a new hope. >>80502701 still a financial success at least but it doesn't really live up to the hype

The irony is that Rogue one is the derivative film while TFA isn't. Rogue One is superficially dissimilar in that it's """darker""" and """edgier""", yet its entire reason for being is to flesh out the opening crawl of the original film and has very few original concepts or ideas. Characters show up where they don't belong and hamfisted fanservice moments are thrown in just so Americans clap when they see Pondo Bobooboo and Princess Leia.

The Force Awakens is superficially similar to ANH in that it has an X-Wing and a droid carrying a plot device, but it cleverly subverts Star Wars conventions to tell a story about legacy and what the Star Wars meant to the generation that followed. It's not subtle about it - was kylo ren being a wannabe tryhard badass who failed at emulating Vader not on-the-nose enough for you plebs?

RO was a lot more creative. I really think the only fanservice moment was the chinese handout with blind space kung fu guy. Like oh right we could make like twice the money if we can make chinese people watch it. And it wasn't even a bad scene

Imagine if Phantom Menace was somehow made first back in 1978, the whole series would have been cancelled and George Lucas would be managing a Pizza Hut in Nevada.

I honestly don't even like Star Wars that much but RO was really good.

Didn't expect literally everyone to die. Acting wasn't forced, outside of robo reddit there weren't many quips, and Jinn's attitude wasn't as MUH STRONK WOMYN as /tv/ made it out to be.

Jinn > Rey

Again, you're spouting off a bunch of superficial shit that everyone noticed. You're not smart for figuring it out. WHY are these concepts there? Why were they used? Is it possible JJ Abrams was using familiar concepts and then subverting to them to make a larger statement about Star Wars as a franchise?

>hey guys remember the not empire

The First Order is a bunch of skinhead punks pretending to be the Empire to make up for their own insecurities. General Hux is a prissy armchair general who has no idea what he's doing and throws up Space Nuremberg rallies to indoctrinated audiences who can't do anything but salute him in order to pump himself up. Captain Phasma bashes Finn for showing individuality and not conforming to the faceless nature of the First Order, but ultimately values her own life more than the Starkiller Base and pusses out. Kylo Ren is an insecure beta bitch boy who's pretending to be Darth Vader so he can pretend he's not the weak depressed loser he really is.

>hey guys remember the not death star

Parody of superweapon escalation that's pervaded the franchise since Return of the Jedi. The First Order builds Starkiller base because it's expected of them as Star Wars villains to build a superweapon. Very little of the actual climax is focused on Starkiller, anyway. It's just a plot device to get all the characters in one place - the crux of the finale is focused on Rey and Kylo.

>hey guys remember the not rebellion

Who's wrong with there being a rebellion?

>hey guys remember not darth vader

Again, Kylo Ren is only superficially similar to Vader, they're entirely different characters.

>hey guys remember leia and han solo

Both of them are integral to the plot of the movie and development of the new characters, as opposed to every cameo in Rogue One who was just there for fanservice. Tarkin, Vader, and Leia had absolutely no reason to be in Rogue One and they don't do enough to justify their inclusion.

You just ate that up with a spoon, didn't you? Do you like being talked down, anon? Do you like being told you're stupid and your only worth is in your nostalgia goggles? Do you enjoy knowing your consuming a product made by a committee instead of a group of people with passion for an idea?

>Do you enjoy knowing your consuming a product made by a committee instead of a group of people with passion for an idea?

George Lucas was literally a one-man committee who was constructing a movie based on the expectations of his fanbase. How else do you explain Space Jesus Vader and the Clone Army being made up of Boba Fett clones created from a Boba Fett clone? Do you really believe those are organic parts of the Star Wars universe, or narrative being driven by marketing?

You're not judging TFA on its merits, you're mad Disney Jews funded it.
>>
>>80504667
For the prequels, which were on the whole, a mess, Lucas was insane. No one debates this. But TFA was a marketing-driven committee movie aimed at hitting all the right nostalgia buttons for the old fans and fandom fuckers on the Internet who'd applaud and squeal and say 'It's just like it used to be! The magic has returned!' when in fact Disney have not resurrected the corpse, they are puppeting it around on very thick strings. From start to finish, from big evil empire to token desert planet, to bigger deathier star and dark mysterious villain, it's the same fucking movie with bits mushed around into different places. It's a very blatant cashgrab, it was not made anyone who cared for the series, world or characters in any way. And audiences lapped it right up.
>>
>>80502591
if they had, carrie would have only been in one movie instead of two
