What are some good Shakespeare adaptions worth watching? I've

The lion King is ultimately the best.

But an Australian version of Macbeth was made a few years ago which was actually alright.

Check out Ran, by Kurosawa. It's King Lear but anime.

It's not a straight adaptation. It has documentary scenes and some parts of the play staged, but this is really fantastic and a must-watch if you're interested in Shakespeare.

How was the Peter Books King Lear? I love the one by Thames.

There are a lot of successful productions of Antony & Cleopatra... This is probably not the most successful one, but it has two great leads.

The Peter Brook version is very bleak and opts for quiet action over extended pieces of dialogue. He was inspired by Jan Kott's absurdist interpretation of the play, and it shows throughout the film. It's probably one of the darkest adaptions of King Lear that I've seen.

I'll have to check it out sometime. There are so many good ones but I'm glad a lot of the modern reinterpretations are not broadcast on television. It seems like in Canada we should find a few Stratford productions displayed on the CBC or something, but it's never happened as far as I can recall.

also depending on whether you can get it or not, simon godwin directed a particularly good production of hamlet last year that is now on dvd. I don't know how it comes across as a film however, it may not be as good
