I remember when Mannis was kill, hes the only actor to be killed off and never even do an exit interview. He also never went to any of the premieres or anything, and I remember the actress who plays Shireen saying Dillane was grumpy on set most days. Later on, he said he hasnt watched the show and didnt enjoy or understand his character and took the role for the money. Also, if you notice, the Stannis storyline got the least budget and the most filming time constraints (D&D themselves admitted this)

TL:DR Even the actor playing Stannis knew the directors were treating him and his character like crap and resented them for it
