Cause it knew it was stupid and was self aware of that fact without being overly so. It got the balance right of tongue and cheek while still telling a story.

angry birds is the only good vidya movie and I'm unironic about this

Because mortal kombat didn't really have much of a story other than character backgrounds so the only thing the movie had to get right is their moves.

Movies like Warcraft and asses cried already have a heavy storyline attached to the game that's harder to deviate from.

Johnny Cage asking the chinese fuccboi to carry his luggage is great, almost as good as the famous channel changing scene from Street Fighter.
