Seriously, as a recovering alcoholic, I definitely said shit that was way worse than anything Gibson said (or at least that he's been caught saying). I think I would really just say whatever I thought would hurt people the most. If I knew the person, I would say personal things. If I didn't, I'd call them a nigger, kike, faggot, whatever. I also got beaten up a lot, and friends told me it seemed like I was trying to get people to attack me --I don't really remember. But I know some of Gibson's friends have expressed the same idea about him-- that he was subconsciously tryinig to ruin himself or get himself killed or something
