Zedd is an all American creation if I recall, a result of them running out of footage and needing to expand mighty morphin for two more seasons.

Also I think the blue guy was one of those short term "I was the finale villain the whole time" things.

In the illusion dimension episode the creature they were fighting was already dark as shit, I think they literally just used footage from the end of the series, possibly the finale fight for that episode.

It looks like they're taking the streamlined, centralized route for the film. Rita is supposedly an ex green ranger and Goldarr is a gold elemental.

the ranger quality is average, to slightly above average

its the villain that makes it good. not only is he nearly the most powerful in his own series (comparatively to the rangers, not counting peoples powers like blowing up fucking planets like zedd theoretically has)
he has many "good" sides, he's actually a good father, and he's evil based on his situation, not evil for the sake of being evil

also, he's american only, one of his mooks was the sentai big bad, so he personally fights the rangers much more than other villains

also, he never personally loses a fight against the rangers
like, literally ever

also his powers are both retarded and cool. he's a mutant with cybernetic enhancement, that knows bonemancy

also, not only does he voluntarily turn himself in to the police (to give his daughter a better life) when he comes back for a later season teamup, he is there to HELP the rangers, and in doing so, he gets a good end. he actually ends up a legit good person
