I'm honestly baffled anyone cares about the matrix reboots at all.

They're just flat, bad films coasting off a genuinely phenomenal one. They should've just left it as it's own brilliant stand-alone.

He embodies the pessimistic nihilist. that path only leads to destruction. His world is fake, a simulation. Humans are much akin to viruses in his understanding. He had no goals except to destroy it all.

I believe it is because his sole reason to exist was to keep humans in the simulation. He realized the simulation is not the only reality. But he found out the real world is also quite diseased. A simulation of its own, society being much of an illusion like the matrix was. Think about it like this, you were lied to your whole life about everything. How would you feel? Pretty irrational no doubt. The one thing that perplexed him was Neo. As Neo was something he could never understand. Neo wasn't logical. He just fought even if it was impossible. Neo had a dream to win and Smith had none. Truthfully Smith did have a dream which was the end of everything, he just did not realize he became very human in action and pursuit. He to was illogical. At the end of 3rd movie you have a clash of 2 very human beings with inhuman powers clashing.

Went rogue after finding out he was the junkyard guard dog for the matrix. He knew he was trapped inside the matrix just like neo but never stood a chance to escape and always questioned neos attempts even after countless matrix reboots.
