It's deck was clawed up too. Also how could a monster have killed all but one person on board if it didn't use some kind of power to get at the crew deep inside the ship? Mothra and Rodan are out because they have no projecting weapons to do so. Godzilla is also out because if he had used his atomic breath then the ship would have heavily irradiated and everyone, including John Goodman's character would have died in a matter of seconds. Not to mention the ship would have been partially melted. This only leaves Ghidora who's lightning attacks could kill many without irradiating the ship and could still possibly leave someone alive.

I would have liked a flash back scene for Goodman's character, you know where he's on the ship in a storm with lightning and then maybe you hear something roar and then a flash of light.
