What went wrong?
Vince posting
Oh wait, this is what went right
not enough autism gay man
>>80416816
Too much navel gazing
Too many characters
Plot was all over the place
There were a few good scenes (Ray and his Dad, Vince's walk in the desert, etc) but by and large it was shit.
Vinceposting was the only good thing about it. Caspere knew this.
Too convoluted and different from the first one to the masses. It feels half cooked and rushed. Still, I prefer this to the first one if only for its focus on the characters and the bleak tone.
>>80416816
The actors from season 1 weren't in it.
>>80416816
4 main characters. One of them was a faggot that had absolutely no plot. The other was a female who didn't matter past the idea that she survived and her daddy sort of led them toward the cult.
I said it 2 years ago when the show was airing. Pizza got forced to shoehorn in a faggot and a woman.
>>80417198
>Pizza got forced to shoehorn in a faggot and a woman.
Eh, I don't buy that. The gay guy was there just because Pizza needed someone to get blackmailed at some point. Blame that on his poor writing.
>>80417198
>One of them was a faggot that had absolutely no plot.
Lol wasn't he the only one who did any actual detective work?
>>80417312
Uh, did you not pay attention to ray? He was being blackmailed his whole career by the same people.
Gaycop had no point.
nothing, not good as 1st one but still good
jews saw that it was redpilling people. People actually did research on real conspiracies from this show into occult.
They needed to shut it down.

No that was a /tv/ meme. He got lucky exactly once. Unless you count finding the files with all the signatures "detective work" he was best in the shoot out but thats because hes a soldier not a detective.
>>80416816
The audience wanted more of True Detective season 1 instead of something different.
First was a simple cop show with great performances and cinematography. Pizza bought into all the shit about what a genius he was. Made a buncha of self-masturbatory nonsense. Show gets cancelled.
Never eat your own Pizza. Especially if youre hungry.

>>80416816
Best elements were picked up and dropped at odd times
>Birdman dropped after 2 episodes only to show up in finale
>Ray's dream in episode 3, not referenced again until finale

etc, etc

Too many directors with no unified vision of how to tell the story, which left it feeling disjointed.
You can thank Pizzalatte for that because he got pissy based Fukunaga made gold out of his mediocre script.

Why do people can pushing this? There has been no evidence whatsoever, anywhere.

Nah fuck sand shit. I want a New England season.
>>80416816
Same problem with Season 1. With a name like True Detective it should have been completely 30's retro pulp.
>>80418010
Except for the misjointed messages between episodes.
I still stand beside too many characters because most of the other plot/development/story issues can be explained away in that he had to write extra for annie and fagcop.

This is really it. If you cut the number of protagonists from 4 to 3 no matter how you split it up it becomes way more interesting:
>A mobster trying to get out and also struggling with his repressed sexuality
>An alcoholic female cop in deep with the mob for the time they told her where she could find her rapist
>An ex-soldier tormented by childhood sexual abuse
It really needed one or two more drafts and a lot of streamlining.
>>80417083
I basically agree with this. Plot was a mess but it still had some shining moments. Worth a watch to those who haven't seen it IMO

yeah to be honest it seemed like it ended right when everything was getting interesting. Like how the moment gay cop stopped moping around about being gay and started getting shit done, he got shot in the back

>>80418634
I agree. It also felt like the actual story only got going after episode 4. Everything that happened in those first four episodes felt like it had no reason for happening until much later in the season. It was just a mess story wise
I actually liked gay cop. I thought he had the most potential of all the characters. But probably should have been in a different season

>An alcoholic female cop in deep with the mob for the time they told her where she could find her rapist
This is interesting on the surface, but it couldn't be handled as gracefully as it was. Antigone gives Velcoro forgiveness for what he did, while at the same time she realizes there are good men in the world.

>>80420738
That's not necessarily how it was. It was a wake up call to things Rust was denying himself. I'm actually watching episode 2 right now, Marty just talked about how Rust wouldn't admit that even he needed things like companionship.
Rust being the way he is is how he copes with the death of his daughter. He denies himself the pleasure of living.
>>80416816
Pizza wrote season 1 over years as his passion project and sold it to HBO as a complete package, but because it was so successful they wanted more and they rushed him to write a second installment in under a year but he had no idea wtf to do
Season 2 was a legitimate attempt at sincerity. Whilst Season 1 blurred the lines between reality and make believe, Season 2 showed our world with no filter.
I thought it was an astounding piece of work.
>>80421233
This. He simply got rushed. Sad honestly because with more refinement this season could have been great. Liked the feel of it.
Really makes you think.
>>80421893
When will you plebs realise most TV is plagiarised from the western canon and books?
Literature is the superior art form
I read Ligotti and watched TDS1, Cohle was just a mouthpiece for that sort of philosophy, other than that he had no real character development, just a quiet brooding aspie/drunk for pseuds to get their hard on and emulate/self insert
Cioran makes Ligotti look like a child anyway
>>80421893
I read that as "Miles Davis," at first, and imagined Miles Davis clad in sunglasses and that funky jacket he wore in his later years interviewing somebody before playing trumpet over their answer.
>>80421893
What's the problem? Rust has been reading those books. He's trying to cope with his daughter's death. The show is not subtle about this.
>>80422178
>other than that he had no real character development
The ending?
>>80422178
Just about to read Cioran. Looking forward to it. I felt a little shortchanged by Ligotti.
TV has its own merits even if it's inferior. The cinematography of TD was great.
>>80422237
>What's the problem?
>>80422382
>What's the problem? Rust has been reading those books. He's trying to cope with his daughter's death. The show is not subtle about this.
Instead of exchanging ideas on what it means to be a human in the 21st century, we'd rather harp on about meaningless rhetoric. Amazing.
>>80422237
>What's the problem? Rust has been reading those books. He's trying to cope with his daughter's death. The show is not subtle about this.
>the ending
my daughter dies so now i become a hyper edgy pessimist lone wolf workaholic PUNISHED dood
It's so boring, so trite. The character might have had charm if they took away the dead daughter (pointless flair) which was just an excuse for pizza to juxtapose this guys philosophy with the themes of the show of a dark world and other esoteric philosophical concepts like eternal recurrence and babbies first EC, and had him be a real, unique, new character, a TRUE DETECTIVE
think Dale Cooper, Rust is so forgettable if you aren't a redditor who latches onto these types of empty pseud magnets with no substance
>>80422845
>my daughter dies so now i become a hyper edgy pessimist lone wolf workaholic PUNISHED dood
Yes. You described what it is. Now what's wrong with it?
>It's so boring
Alright, why and how?
>so trite
See above.
>The character might have had charm if they took away the dead daughter (pointless flair)
How is it pointless flair? It gives Rust a motive to be on the case as much as he is. It could've been his daughter.
>think Dale Cooper, Rust is so forgettable if you aren't a redditor who latches onto these types of empty pseud magnets with no substance
What a fucking boring thing to say. All rhetoric and no content.
>>80422237
Rust was literally just pizza hitting plebs over the head with a hammer to make sure they "GOT IT"
>You know what Ray? People keep asking what went wrong. Like there was a better answer than the HBO exec who said he forced that poor pizza boy to deliver something in half a year what had took him previously more than two years. So that poor pizza boy who had just given Rusty Sue all his best lines was fresh outta toppings for ol Franky boy here. But when youre a pizza boy you dont care about toppings anymore. You forget it takes more than a year for that oven to cook it. The only thing that pizza boy is thinking about is 30 minutes or less or else its free.
>But that aint it Ray. Not by a longshot. I know when it all went wrong. It started before that. When the oceans started forming. When cells started dividing. Thats when things started going downhill. And now that gravity has inevitably brought us to this, now you wanna tap out? Fuck that. You finish the race so some cocksucker gets his chance to dig up your skeleton and make up stories about you.
>>80423677

>>80423980
exactly what?
like you agree or thats exactly what frank would say?
>>80425440
Caspere had all the knowledges in the world
>>80425717
Means you finish what you started. I wouldn't doubt at all that Pizza made that post himself; he started writing TD S2, realized it wasn't going to be up to par. But what the fuck was he gonna do? Not do it? Fuck that shit, you own it and finish it. Then the vultures come and pick you apart, but at least you finished.
>>80416816
like everyone else said, too many characters and stories that got mashed together and it didnt work. Season 1 was fairly simply in its execution.
Also, the events of season 1 actually felt like they mattered. when rust and cohle fucked up the initial investigation a satanic serial killer and pedophile cult kept operating and killing kids. The need for them to go back and fix it was greater. In season 2 what happened? dirty politicians and gangsters kept doing bad things and some poisoned land was bought, who gives a shit? I thought they were going to redeem themselves with the trafficked girls story line but none of the hookers cared what they were doing, most of them seemed to have fun being at an orgy.
too many stories, shit writing and not enough tension
>It's a dog eat dog world and I'm the fucking chinaman
>>80417859
id prefer something colder and more Forrest. Season 1 had the swamps of Louisianan and season 2 had CA, which is close to the ciudad idea
stick to small towns and rural aspects though, no LA or new york city

>>80426064
>I thought they were going to redeem themselves with the trafficked girls story line but none of the hookers cared what they were doing, most of them seemed to have fun being at an orgy.
That was part of the point. This isn't even a new thing for TD, it happened in season 1, too, but they made it more up front this time.
>>80426286
Sure, let me look for it.
>>80426064
>I thought they were going to redeem themselves with the trafficked girls

human trafficking wasnt really implied in season 1, but it was more implied childress killed runwaways, poor redneck kids and prostitutes. Same as the cult
season 2 made it sound like organized human trafficking rings was going to be a story, but instead McAdams went to a politician fuck party and all the girls were cool with it
>>80426684
I dont know how they thought that would have held up in court. I know its tv and all but for fucks sake they broke into a mansion, killed some people and robbed them

>human trafficking
I'm not talking about the trafficking aspect specifically. I'm talking about the fact that nobody knows what to do about girls who are in these situations. Pizza clearly laments that it happens, otherwise it wouldn't have been brought up in the way it was in either season; that nobody knows what to do about it.
MARTY: That girl's not 18. The sheriff know you got underage working here?
JAN: What do you know about where that girl's been, where she come from? You want to know Beth's situation, 'fore she ran out on her uncle?
MARTY: There are other places she could go.
JAN: Such holy bullshit from you.
Now in season 2:
ANTIGONE: This bus goes to Seattle. Hits a couple stops in between. You get out of here. Forget this. Maybe it can blow over for you.
[WHORE GIRL]: This is never gonna blow over. My life ended that day.
ANTIGONE: Except it didn't. You can lay it down. I'm giving you that.
[WHORE GIRL]: Why?
ANTIGONE: Because whatever debt there was, you're not the person who needs to be punished now.
[WHORE GIRL]: What about Len?
ANTIGONE: Lay him to rest. Sounds like you lost him years ago.
[WHORE GIRL]: What am I supposed to do?
ANTIGONE: I don't know.
The point of the buildup to Antigone wanting to save the girl, who we learn about early on, is that she doesn't want to be saved. She can't be. And people like Antigone or Marty, no matter how much they want to help, really can't. That's it. And it's good stuff, how these unfortunate lives live in this world.

ANI: Will you testify?
VERA: Fuck, no. I was hammered anyway. You know what? Thinking about it, I don't know what I've seen.
ANI: Is that when you tried to get out?
VERA: I never tried to get out. Girl fucked up. All you gotta do is follow the rules. I didn't want to get out. You feel me? I was never missing.
ANI: You didn't look like you wanted to be where you were when I found you.
VERA: I took too much Molly on top of champagne. So what? It happens.
ANI: All right, so who's the other girl?
VERA: Her name is Laura, maybe. I ain't seen her in like five, six months.
ANI: Maybe they took her out to the cabin?
VERA: No, she wasn't dumb like Tascha. Look, can I just get a ride? Or call somebody?
ANI: Your sister's on her way.
VERA: What the fuck? You don't think my sister's fucked up? The way she waits hand and foot on that panty-sniffing motherfucker?
ANI: Better than being strung out.
VERA: Yo, I have a place. I got nice things. I had a good thing with Tony and his people.
ANI: Maybe-- and this is just a thought, maybe you were put on Earth for more than fucking.

I thought season would delve more into it and have it be a central plot, even if it didnt end on a happy note and had a more gritty realism. the first few episodes we're trying to see whats the plot going to be about
>casper getting murdered like that
>maybe satanic killers like a charles manson group, going off of season 1's theme
>annie grew up in a cult, so that might go somewhere
>franks character will be involved.....somehow. maybe hes got connections and goes above the law so its a little different then a cop show
and then it just kind of spirals out of control. the all the stories didnt mesh perfectly and it felt sloppy. when they'd started talking about trafficked girls I thought they were going to go back on track and have the people they were investigating be involved in some pedowood shit, but it ultimately went nowhere like that.
season 1 delved into it a bit, but the rest of the story was worthwhile to pick up from where that aspect dropped off. Season 2's story wasnt
