I just recently discovered Nikkatsu films (the studio Suzuki worked for), they produced a lot of great noir films.

There's a specific stories of his that I enjoy, I don't know where I first heard it, probably second hand. In defending his films from the criticisms of them being too violent, he recounted a story of him lying in his bunk on his ship during WW2 with his friend being there one second taking a piss and then the next most of the ship is gone and his friend's top half was completely ripped away leaving just his legs. His point being that, that was real violence, he's seen it, he's experienced it, movie violence is nothing by comparison.
anyone else here who has seen shinjuku incident? i liked it
