The scene was supposed to show the elves weren't abandoning the dwarves. The elves and dwarves were getting ready to battle until the orcs showed up, the dwarves turned away from the elves and shielded up against the orc charge. It appeared the elves were just going to watch and let the orcs overrun the dwarves, but at the last second joined the battle on the dwarf side. I still stupid, I know.

Just imagine, the battle of the dwarfs against the orcs in the first Hobbit film I believe it was. All standins wearing heavy armor looking clothing, they spend the entire day walking as orcs and dwarfs and hitting each other scene after scene on a tight deadline. At the end of the day you are fucking exhausted and then PJ comes in and says it wasn't the way he envisioned the scene and they have to redo every thing of that battle. Days upon days of work down the drain. This really happened.

The embarrassing thing is Orlando Bloom still looks exactly like Legolas in the original takes but all the editing makes him look off
