Cast Dragonball movie. Which saga(s) should they use for the plot?

Do that first chunk of Dragon Ball -- Bulma meeting Goku, up through the first time they summon Shenron. That's a very self-contained story that doesn't need the audience to know anything, and doesn't throw a mountain of Dragon Ball characters at them. You'd only need Goku, Bulma, Yamcha, and Pilaf, optionally adding Puar and Pilaf's crew.

Dragonball is pretty good, but doesn't really need a movie.

I'd want him to come across a little older than he is when DB starts, but still younger than Bulma. Ideally, it's someone who has a young face, can endearingly play an idiot like Goku, and can fight convincingly. Ryan Potter has at least two out of the three, so I like him. He might be too good looking for the role, though.

Needs to come across as clever and capable. A real quick-on-the-fly hotshot type. Also, plays the straight man for Goku. Blue hair optional. I like Hailee Steinfeld or Sophie Boutella for this.

Should he's in the same age ballpark as Bulma, but a little more weathered, like someone who lives isolated in a desert and robs any people he sees. He's an asshole who has a way of winning you over. I think Riz Ahmed would be good.

>Pilaf
Needs to be a stronger villain than he was DB. The character can still be silly, but he has to prove himself to be a credible threat. I'm not too attached to the little green man look from the source material. He doesn't even have to be a dwarf, IMO. I really don't care who plays him.
