It was visually pretty cool. The headspace was pretty much exactly as I imagined it while I was reading the book. I hate to be this guy, but the movie did completely change the ending. I'm not even saying for worse or for better, just totally different.

I think the idea is that by the time LotR came along he was too old and grumpy to do movies he didn't understand anymore. He was just pretty much fed up. Look at Finding Forrester. Probably the best movie he did after The Untouchables (and arguably the last good movie he did at all) and it was a pretty simple, down to Earth story.

As a lover of Stephen King (with reservations) this did a very good job of looking/coming off like a Stephen King book. It's a bad movie, but fun for me.
