British telly is in a bit of rut right now.

When it's not pandering to 40+ year old people, it's pandering to normies and chavs. The quality production of original TV shows has declined since the 80s/90s and has resulted in what you see today.
Most of the good stuff is stolen by America or just produced there in the first place.

A lot of it can be found online on subscription services which Britain just can't compete with. See BBC 3.
The problem with this is due to contracts and legal things, a lot of content doesn't make it to the UK from other countries and Vice Versa.

Their old business model of letting America produce the show and waiting to see if it's popular before buying the rights to air doesn't work anymore. Mainly because you can have it all online.
