Logan is arthouse Oscar Bait Kino without the capeshit

Logan without the mutant powers and comics book elements would be an arthouse Oscar Bait film.

The story is centered around three members of an oppressed minority. The eponymous character is an aging sickly soldier now addicted to drugs, dealing with depression and PTSD and struggling to confront his past, grief, and impending mortality. He assumes the burden as caretaker to his former mentor: a paraplegic nonagenarian slipping away from Epilepsy and Alzheimer's, and an abused runaway undocumented girl. Together they learn the meaning of love, life, and family as they travel on a perilous journey to illegally cross a border to escape violence.

What a bait and switch
>>

Without the mutant powers and comic book elements there is no movie, it would just be two old guys caring for a sick old guy and nothing happens.
>>
This movie was more libcuck agenda shit. The white man has to make way and die for the mexican female and allow violent dangerous refugees into his land because muh oppression.

Another Gran Torino. Expected as much from Hollywood.
>>
Yes a superpowered clones and little girls doing flying kickflips taking down cyborgs.
>>
>>80323353
>libshit
C'mon man. The movie even has the Mexicans leaving America to go to Canada. Actually now that you mention it, Mexicans being pushed to Canada by evil white Americans can be libshit.
Fuck you man, I liked the movie.
>>
>>80323144
Logan is an x-man soft reboot. They killed off the old and introduced a bunch of young niglets and non-white mutants to take on the racist fascist white anti mutant army.
>>
>>80323732
Only one niglet you fag
>>
>all this bitching about a non existent agenda

This film had the dumbest villains ever. How the fuck do you fail to Indoctrinate kids? It's fucking easy. Restrict knowledge of the outside world, get them in a line and just kill 10% of them right then and there and make them know that their lives are worthless. That they live to fight for something better.

also why did going to Canada make them safe? This is a corporation with hired mercenaries for fuck sake. They where working in Mexico due to loopholes in the law so if the ids where in danger in America, What chance do they have in Canada? It was never mentioned that the cooperation was working for any government at any time.

Also, why did the mercs leave a blood trail? How fucking dumb are they? Why did they kill that guy at the gas station? Last thing they need is the fucking cops on their tails

Also, why did Logan cave in and have dinner with that family? He knew that he was putting Xavier', Laura's and the families life in danger doing that.

Also, too many F bombs that the impact was eventually lost.

Also, in the final battle Logan pulls a pistol out of his asshole. It's never established that he had a pistol and it just sort of magically appears in his hand.

Actually another thing, why did Logan leave the merc leader alive at the begging? He knew that he killed the Mexican lady so why keep him alive. And why send that grey fucker too do it? He's vulnerable to attack.

Also, if the mercs cloned a version of Logan, surely they knew that it takes adimantion too kill him. Why didn't they just shoot him with one of those bullets at the begging?

Fuck, I could go on about this shit all day, but I got other shit too do
>>
>>80323884
I thought I remember Logan picking up a pistol from one of the dead guys after he and Laura fuck up all those guys.

As for the Adamantium, I thought it was more odd that in origins he hate like four of those to the dome and just came out a bit forgetful, whereas his clone had his shit blown out.

I think it was hinted that they didn't use the same bonding for the clone and x-23 but still.

As for the kids, I think the Mexican nurses fucked it up by nurturing them and shit.
Other then that I agree.

>>80323144
Oscar bait does not equal art house
>>
>>80324182

>>
>>80324024

But why did he pick up Pistol. He mentions that he hates guns.

If it was because he was feeling weak, then why didn't he pick up a rifle? Also, what professional mercs use pistols and not handguns?

Also I just remembered another thing. So Logan and Xavier are at the gas station and they are looking after Laura. Yet they are 100 feet away from her in the car while she is outside looking at the video on the phone. They should be right next too her at every moment. If you don't want her to hear it, put some headphones in and take turns watching the video.

Also, if the nurse was able to nurture them, why where the kids not under 24/7 surveillance? Did they even have CCTV in their rooms?

Also, why didn't they have like collars around their necks that would paralyze them if they tried to escape?

This has more plot holes than TDKR
>>
>>80323353
>>80323144

The poster for Logan even appears ripped from Schindler's List.

Gee I wonder who can be behind that?
>>
>>80324182
Actual arthouse rarely ever win Oscars, they usually aren't even american.
>>
>>80324395

>>
>>80323884
>also why did going to Canada make them safe?
>north dakota is in canada now
well thanks for the free land i guess???
>>
>>80324395

When did he say that he hates guns? Are you confusing him with Batman? Logan had the gun and adamantium bullet at the beginning of the movie.

Why did the mercs use pistols and not handguns? Do you mean why didn't they use other guns? They had and used shotguns, SMGS, rifles, machine guns and grenade launchers. The real question is why didn't they send more mutants after them? Was X-24 all they had left? If not why not use more powerful weapons such as laser, plasma, and energy weapons which previous films established already exist or things such as wire/cable nets or tasers?

Also those reavers did nothing special with their bionics. We didn't see some crazy Ghost in the Shell or Deus Ex stuff with super strength, gun arms, gazelle legs, tentacle arms, impossible motions for bills logical limbs. They just acted like normal humans with normal strength.
>>
>>80324698

What. They clearly mention that they are in North Dakota and they need to cross the border in order too be safe. Unless if South Dakota Minnesota is safe from them.

>>80324642

Give me reasons you fucking fanboy
>>
>>80324755

He does mention that he dislikes guns and at no point do we see him with the pistol until it magics in his hand. We don't even see him take it out of his pocket.

Also another thing, why did none of the mercs flee after half of them where being destroyed? They're mercs, they work for money. Why did none of them value their lives?

Also, when Xavier is mind fucking everyone at the Casino, how the fuck was Logan able to stab people in their brains? He was struggling too stand, how the fuck could he stab someone in their skull like that? He should be slitting their throats, not head stabbing
>>
>>80323144

The plot demanded it

>>80323144
mangold trying to normalize pedophilia with this movie

very jewish movie
>>
>>80324906

Wolverine's healing factor and or past experiences with Xavier probably helped him develop ways to overcome the seizures.

Slitting someone's throat takes more finesse and motor coordination which is hard to do when your body is seizing up and spasming from a psychic. Aiming at the most obvious spot and pushing is easier!.
>>
>>80324906

Caliban confronted him about the pistol and admantium et early in the movie. He later fights several people who could have a similar gun, and even has a whole speech with Laura that he was saving that gun and bullet to commit suicide with. The gun and bullet were shown several times. Did you miss it?

Dude you are nitpicking hard.
>>
>>80323144
>>>80323144
>So im a little confused how did the extra adamantium heal him?

That was not adamantium. It was a drug developed from hormones produced by Laura. which she inherited from Logan's genes.

The admantium was in fact killing him as his body was treating it as poisonous and trying to get it out.

i aint the annoying shizo in the thread, but one thing that doesnt make sense is that logan is literally plated with adementium , so how does adementium bullet poison him?
>>
>>80325717
thats a big jump to conclusions, yeah money buys a lot of shit , but if you cant find a rare metal then u cant find it , even with billions of dollar. also Im sure they they dont have enough for every merc to have magazine of that shit
>>
>>80323144
what the fuck no it wouldn't you infuriating retard.

3/10 bait, made me reply
>>
>>80325777

Nice trips

What I mean is that when the merc leader first confronts Logan in Logan's car, he should have just popped the bullet in his head right there and then as he's the only real threat his organisation has

But as for not being able to find any, I guess that is a possibility; but I'd still expect them to have thought in advance and been trying to find some since they started the program. After 11 years when the kids escape, they should have at least enough for half a bullet.
>>
>>80325724
The whatever it was they put in corn syrup (and as a result, quite a lot of food) not only stops new mutant births, it affects living ones too-charles, a telepath, has his mind affected, and logan has his healing and regeneration effected

The entirety of his adamantium skeleton slowly poisons him to death as a result, since his body isn't immune to it via super powered healing anymore
>>
>>80323353
well in fact they take them out of the country, as you'd know if you'd paid attention, but ok
>>
>>80325724
Are you trolling? Were you awake or paying attention? First the gun comment and now this.
The adamantium bullet did not poison him, he was not shot with one in the movie.

His admantium skeleton coating was killing him. Just like real life implant rejection, but due to his powers it just works slower.

>>80323884

Yeah I wondered about the adamantium bullet thing myself. I mean they already had enough for X-23 and X-24, did they run out?

Maybe they wanted the two alive, so that's why they were not used?

>>80325380
The gun was shown several times. My friend even whispered to me "That's a Chekov's Gun and Chekov's bullet right there. It's gonna be used to kill the clone, I am calling it." It would not have been more obvious if it didn't shoot you right in the eye.

Speaking of which, I totally thought someoe should have been stabbed in the head with two claws protruding out the eye sockets. Would've made one edgy gif.
>>
>>80323834
>>
>>80326015
The reverse happened. She poked the dude climbing on the back of the car right in the eyes and you saw the holes in the back windshield where the claws had been.
>>
>>80325913
because logan isnt some mindless idiot who just kills people for no reason? Logan didnt know shit about the girl or the mother at that point he wanted nothing to do with that shit.

Also logan had plans to stay low under the radar with prof X so killing one more person after the group of thugs would of brought more attention to him and prof x.
>>
>>80323144

>Maybe they wanted the two alive, so that's why they were not used?

i assumed this. we know that the adult male clone didn't heal as fast as lara and wolverine in his prime.

>>>80325380
>The gun was shown several times. My friend even whispered to me "That's a Chekov's Gun and Chekov's bullet right there. It's gonna be used to kill the clone, I am calling it." It would not have been more obvious if it didn't shoot you right in the eye.

i thought the gun should have been used by laura to euthanize wolvie walking dead style.

>Speaking of which, I totally thought someoe should have been stabbed in the head with two claws protruding out the eye sockets. Would've made one edgy gif.

thats how lara shouldve killed the male clone. stabbing hun through the eyes with her two claws to bypass his adamantium skull .
>>
>>80326162

No I meant that The Merc leader should have just killed Logan with an Ad bullet in order to get rid of up his organisation's only real threat.

He should have enough Ad for at least one bullet after 11 years of work, presuming that the kids are about 10ish
>>
>>80326162
People are also forgetting that for the entire movie they had trouble tracking anybody. They had to kidnap Stephen Merchant precisely to keep up with Logan/Laura/Xavier.

They are a corporation, but they weren't all powerful. Killing Logan likely would have meant they'd have lost the last shot at the girl before she escaped.
>>
>>80326388

That's the thing that bugs me. They're a cooperation, yet they leave such a huge blood trail. I mean, they kill the gas station clerk during daylight with possible witnesses in a store with CCTV camera for no reason.

They got violent for no reason. They should have just asked him about the them and left, not make such an unnecessary scene.

Every justification for an action just opens a new plot hole with this film
>>
>>80325940

I can't wait for Alex Jones to respond to the poisoning soft drinks, junk food, and water subplot. As well as the transhumanist experiments.

>>80325913

No. The bad guys needed Logan. They had completely lost track of the nurse and girl and their only lead was the fact that a group of cholos were slashed and mauled in a garage. Since they lost track of the nurse and girl in that general area, they assumed that they had tried to contact him and other mutants for help.

That's how they tracked them down, by placing a tracker inside the limo.

It also appeared as if their male clone X-24 did not heal as well as Laura and Wolverine in his prime, so they probably wanted him as well.

>>80326388
After Stephen Merchant died, the two of them would have easily gotten away with no trace if the nurse did not stupidly write down the coordinates even though she knew they were being hunted.
>>
>>80325059

You've clearly never tabbed anyone before.

Although the rumen could be made that they're adamantium and retain their super sharpness so it would be easy for him.
>>
>>80325991

Did you expect a functioning brain or the ability to listen from a redpill retard from /pol?
>>
>>80326832

I'll except that they needed Logan and I can let slide that the cooperation didn't at least put a tracking device inside Laura - like in her wrist like in Casino Royal for example.

I knew that they where tracking Logan to find the girl, but they had a clone of Logan, why not just use him?

Yea he's a dumbass who can't speak but all he needs too do is walk around until the Nurse tries to gets his attention. Then he can follow the nurse to the apartment and cablamo, you've got the girl

Okay, maybe the clone was just a trained killing machine and that would not work Okay then

Then why not just track Logan all the time, as soon as he is seen with the Nurse and girl, follow them the their room and gas the room. Laura should be able to survive carbon monoxide and would just pass out. Then you could chain her up in peace
>>
>>80326832
>I can't wait for Alex Jones to respond to the poisoning soft drinks, junk food, and water subplot. As well as the transhumanist experiments.

That and the angle that /pol/lack was projecting.

>>
>>80323144
Why didn't they just go to Guatemala?
What was the point of going through the nation that is actively trying to kill you?
>>
>>80327027

Maybe they did place a tracking device in the kids. The nurse probably knew the placement.

We already saw her cutting herself. It's not too far fetched to have her remove it herself. The filmmakers missed an opportunity to make that icky scene where she has to perform self surgery.

The Xmen aren't a religious institution.
People put a cross above graves to represent salvation. What was the symbolism in transforming that into an X

Its not like they put an X over his grave, they transformed another symbol into an X.
So saying "It's to honor his role as an X-Man." ignores the most important part of the scene, the transformation.

This is anecdotal but last year my good friend married a black girl raised on a farm...in California, but her parents are ranchers and were raised as ranchers from the South where most of the family still resides and works as farmers adm ranchers. She's a horse trainer and a nationally ranked competitive dresage rider with a bunch of medals. They just got divorced

So when I saw that family I thought of her.

I think thta whole subplot was supposed to be a reference to Shane or Unforgiven when the heroes are taken in by a family being bullied by a local gang. Or a reference to Sam and Henry from The Last of Us, which I felt this movie heavily cribbed from.

I thought this was gonna be Old Man Logan: The Movie but it definitely wasn't. Although it seems like they took some inspiration from it.

But that white doctor was not evil. He seemed concerned, insisted that Wolverine get what was killing him checked out, and even covered fro him when its implied that some mutant genocide happened.

This makes me sad mang, so close to perfection otherwise
>>
Film was ok only negatives are:

-The need to vaguely not explain how the world is as it is in regards to mutants.
-Too many Mexicans and the whole crossing the border and evil border patrol.

Honestly movies need to get away from the MUHH BROWN OPPRESSION, been done to death a bajillion times over.

Would carbon monoxide poisoning or asphyxiation work on the likes of Wolverine, Sabretooth, Lady Deathstrike, Deadpool, or X-23?

I mean Wolverine was pulled out of the water after being submerged for what seems like an eternity at the end of Days of Future Past. And in X2 and Origins we know anesthesia won't work on him, or at least even insane deady doses.
>>
>>80330501

I didn't like Batman '89 as a movie, but the art direction and soundtrack defined Batman, The Danny Elfman theme, Anton Furst's Gotham, and the Batmobile are what I think.

Batman Returns was avery enjoyable movie but a poor representation of Batman. I liked Burton's crazy non sequitor takes on these characters even if none of them felt true to the source.

Nolan got the essence of The Dark Knight right and his characters and relations with them. But it traded the fantasy city of Gotham for gritty relatable realism, which I missed.

Batman The Animated Series, the DCAU, and especially Mask of the Phantasm got everything right.
>>
>>80330801

I seem to recall Wolverine was once dealt with by chaining him between two flamethrowers that keep him burning and regenerating for a long time. Even that didn't kill him.
>>
>>80331499

That's a good assessment. I also don't think Burton's Batman is a particularly good representation of the character but I found Returns so striking - I also loved DeVito's grotesque Penguin and Michelle Pfeiffer's defining Catwoman. It felt like a work of German Expressionism.

I can't really pin it down but I always hugely preferred it to Batman 89 too, for some reason.

Batman '89 had a weak script and it was full of cringey parts and cliches.

>"YOU WANNA GET NUTS?"
>"Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?" That sounds like something random some pretentious edgelord or tumblrina would write to sound deep when it's just random.
>Turning the Joker into a simple gangster obsessed with the same woman Batman is into.
>Turning the Joker into the killer of Batman's parents so their fascinating dicohomatic relationship becomes a simple revenge tale.
>The makeup and costumes look good on stills. But those prosethetic lips restricted Nicholson's facial expressions, speech and overall acting. I had to turn on Closed Captioning as a kid to understand him. Batman's stiff rubber suit that made him unable to run or turn his neck made it painfully aware that any of us out of shape children and neckbeards can easily kill.
>Shallow characters and relationships with no passion.
>The Joker dancing to Prince.
> Speaking of which what the fuck was Prince in the Batdance music video. He was Gemini half Batman/Joker?
>>
It was a very flawed film, and if you watch the special features you will learn it was stuck in development hell for an eternity and suffered multiple rewrites and merged scripts.

When I was fourteen I bitched and moaned like everyone else on the DC Comics Message Boards, rkmbs Wizardworld, Sequential Art, Toonzone.net that the Burton and Schumacher films were "Batman in Name Only." None of the characters resembled their source counterparts apart from name and costume and we found it egregious that Batman was a gun wielding killer.

But since then, we've had so many great adaptations and I learned to appreciate them all. I enjoy 89 for reigniting Batmania, and coming up with the definitive Gotham, Soundtrack, and greenlight Batman TAS and the DCAU which I see as the definite version of Batman and the DC Universe. I acknowledge that though Returns was unfaithful to the source material that it's a genuinely good picture that tried to do something bold and unique on it's own. I even like the Schumacher flicks for something dumb and fun to watch while drinking or taking hits with friends.

I read the unmanned semi-trailers as mirroring the threat of the bionically enhanced Reavers who replaced functions traditionally held by biological means with mechanical means.

I also saw the autonomous transports in relation to the horses that the family were transporting as symbolic of Logan and Charle's obsolescence in this new era.

>>
>>80333529

I love that Sabretooth whole schictk was that he was insecure and jealous of Wolverine and was obsessed with oneupping him to the pount of getting an adamntium skeleton AND FOUR claws on each hand.
>>
>>80333712
yea it was fun
>>
>>80333529

I loved that shit. But I was in 6th grade, and the target audience.

Many today looks back on the Ultimate line from the early 2000's and dismiss them as being too tryhard and edgy. But it took a bold move that attempted to modernize, simplify, and deconvolute decades of publication history. It added a degree of realism that made adapting to movies easier, so many elements such as Fox's X-Men, SLJ nick Fury and the look of many of the MCU characters originate from the Ultimate line.

And it had a single cohesive theme and origin that tied the universe all together. Experiments on beings to create super soldiers that resulted in an arms race.

>>80323144
lol if ever there was evidence that /pol/ had infested this board it was this thread. X-men has always been analogous to persecution of minorities. The first 2 movies were basically all about white American government going after them. This isn't new or even remotely relevant to Trump (they were going to Canada, not America)
>>
>>80334882

When exactly did /pol/ and /v/ reach critical mass, break containment and flood the other boards with shitposters? I noticed it before and around the time moot purged GG.
>>
>...this...is what it feels like...
>>
>>80335048
I remember /pol/ moderation going to shit maybe about 2 years ago (can't really remember) and them just giving up on their board and coming places like here (cause politics are in films and tv). Then Trump came about and /pol/ rose in use again but the people who'd started coming here stayed here and we just got loads of Trump shit ever since. /v/ and gamergate aren't bad per se it's just a lot of gamergate types started out saying "SJWs are bad because they're not real liberals" and slowly morphed into "all liberals are basically hitler". this again happened round about when Trump ran for Republican leader and has stayed the same since.
>>
Logan is about an oppressed Mexican minority who represents the next generation of Americans being hunted down by a blond man named Donald who wants to return her to Mexico.

I'm actually amazed we haven't had the president tweet a "SAD!" in response to this film yet.

I think the reason I'm not as wild about this film as most is because I'm not a sentimental person. Seems like that's the main thing going for it, just sentimentality and surface-level heavy emotions due to subject matter.

>People put a cross above graves to represent salvation. What was the symbolism in transforming that into an X
Becoming a part of the X-men was his salvation.

There, now you have your much needed symbolism. You can let it go now.
>>
>>80329327
Because it looked fucking cool and was a superb round off to his character - i.e. he was in the X-men, the X-men were heroes and he died re-discovering what it means to be a hero. And it looks absolutely brilliant. Jesus Christ, you're autistic.

I got dragged along to this thinking it would be regular capeshit, and it turned out to be the most watchable capeshit in a while.

But not KINO or arthouse like the OP thinks.

But of course /co/ retards believe this:

>>90645825
>Yeah I think everyone agrees that it was mediocre at best. It seems like the director didn't know how to write a superhero movie. When I go see a superhero movie, I want to have a good time, not watch people cry for two hours. Still, this does officially end the Fox X-men movies, so I'd put good money on Marvel stepping in and picking up the pieces like they did with Spider-man.

And fucking Hollywood is all about capitalizing on these autists.

And elsewhere on the internet fanboys are rigging the polls. If you are a DCuck this is teh wurst evar. If you are a Marvel Zombie, this is teh bast evar.

FUCKING VIRGINS! YOU HAVE BEEN BRAINWASHED BY CORPORATE PROGRAMMING. IT'S LIKE ARGUING WHETHER MCDONALDS OR BURGER KING IS TEH BEST. THEY ARE BOTH JUNK...ENJOYABLE...BUT JUNK.

We want art, they want products. And Hollywood is catering to their normie tastes.

Is there any sex/similar in this film?

I'm thinking about seeing it with family but I don't wanna see tits n dicks with the tits I sucked on and the dick I came from.

The movie stars Wolverine and a child with similar powers. No adult female in a primary role. So, no.

>>80337597
for about half a second a woman flashes her tits, but it's not a sexually charged situation or anything. i was perfectly comfortable watching this with my family, and i'm very awkward about sexual stuff in movies.
>>
>>80337597

No sex but a half second of tits.

At the start of the movie Logan is working as a limo driver and is driving a group of women having a bachelorette party. The bride briefly flashes Logan for her last night of freedom.

It was rather pointless, brief and inconsequential. It just felt like the director thought I CAN MAKE AN R RATED SUPERHERO MOVIE better throw in tits.

Vertigo and Marvel MAX comics used to fall for this trap. Editors believed that readers were buying them for the nudity and gore, and sometimes artists and scripts were sent back to include a single token nip shot just to titillate the viewer.

>slipping away from Epilepsy and Alzheimer's

Xavier has not Alzheimer's, you fucking idiot. Why does everyone keep on repeating this shit? The only times you see him acting crazy is after a seizure, and that's called post-ictal delirium. Why does he have seizures is another mystery, but late-onset epilepsy in old people is most commonly because of stroke (or just vascular etiologies).

FUCK.
