Where do you realistically, unironically see RLM doing in the next 5 years? 10 years?

Does Mike plan to make YouTube videos when he's in his 50s? Or does he want to eventually transition into directing feature films and television one day?

Which cast member will leave to begin their solo career first?
>>
>>80313955
Jay's the hot, energetic, attractive one. He'll probably start a hit Youtube review channel and review movies in 4-minute snappily edited segments and get millions of subscribers and have a cool catchphrase like "You've just been stuckmannised".

Then he'll kill himself for becoming what he hates.

Meanwhile, Mike will be sat alone in a VCR repair shop talking to himself about the 15th Spiderman reboot.

It's gonna be great.
>>
>>80313955
they're too self conscious to ever make a serious movie. it's like they intentionally self sabotage.

mike has already cleverly set up for when jay leaves. there are old episodes where it cuts to mike talking to an empty chair. one episode halfway through will cut like that, but it'll stay that way. mike will just talk to an empty chair for the next few years after that.
>>
i see it never being related to television or film
>>
The real question: will Rich Evans get a sticky when he inevitably dies of a heart attack in 2 years time?
>>
>>80314181
if this board was on topic it'd go back to being 20 or 30 insufferable spergs discussing the same five ``kino'' films for eternity.
>>
>>80313955
Well, seeing as RedLetterMedia is Mike's company and main source of income, I don't think he would dissolve it.

I could see Rich and Jack going off on their own, but Jay seems like such a loser he probably will ride on Mike's coattails until the end.

Hopefully Beardfat will die of heart disease by then
>>
what not where
>>
Easily doing this for the next five years. I can't predict farther than that, but I think Rich and Jack already have a "solo career" in Prerec. They don't need to leave because the workload is already so minimal.
>>
If Mike ever goes solo, all he has to do is Plinkett style reviews and he'll be made.
>>
>>80314320
Jack doesn't even work for RLM. He's real job is video editing but he does get some money out of Prerec.

I don't see why they would have to quit just because they are 50. The age group watching them now will still be happy to watch them 10 years from now. I'm the same age as Mike.
>>
>>80314320
I just wished that they'd hire a couple people to help with shooting and editing so they could release more content.

49, 38. it's posted on their patreon exclusive RLM bios
>>
>>80313955
Why did RLM's subscribers stagnate in early 2014? They've barely grown since then, despite having a few viral hits. Similar channels - some actually very RLM influenced - have been created and hit it big in the time RLM has been hovering around their current subs.
>>
>>80315744
why the fuck do you know what their sub count is?

Honestly think Jay will leave to make a stab at feature directing like James Rolfe.

Maybe with Netflix there will be a market for low budget Bad Movies (fillers) again.

Rolfe is someone who clearly shouldn't be doing youtube anymore. Jay and Mike are probably getting close.
>>
>>80314075
He already did quick cuts and since i've never heard anyone reference it, you can imagine how it went.
>>
>>80314256
>>80314181

It's literally on topic.

1. It's about film and television

2. Even if you want to say it's about youtube, youtube is now officially film and television according the Emmy's.
>>
>>80315880

>Mike is 38

That's some rough living.
>>
>>80317329
You can go by your first point alone, don't mention that second point ever again.
NEVER EVER
We don't want the e-celebfags posting more shitty excuses to post their e-celeb shit.
>>
>>80315744
This is one of the stranger things about RLM, they have a pretty low sub count but their views are basically 1:1 for subs.

I'd imagine alot of it comes down to the fact they're cynics and don't seem interested in doing any cross promotional shit with others youtubers.
>>
>>80317242
He aged.
>>
>>80313955
If they're still doing it in their 30's, they might as well do it till they die.
>>
>>80314310
>RedLetterMedia is Mike's company and main source of income,
jay owns 50% of rlm so the quality and mikes input will drop and the end is nigh
>>
Jay will be hired as a porn director, he will look back at the days of being a fan of muh sleazy films and cringe.
Jack will move on, his days of getting drunk and making a clown of himself on the internet videos will severely impact his relationship with his children.
Rich will be sucking on his wifes familly teet. He'll long for days when he got paid for being a fat comic relief.
Mike will try to get Max Landis to get him a directing gig. He'll give up after serval unanswered messages, then he will kill himself after failed Wallmart job interview. In time, he will only be remembered as that cringy guy in Landis Hollywood party anecdotes.

Ironically bad is the worst kind of bad. It's why on Best of the Worst they watch movies that were actually trying. It's fun to laugh at them.

I could see them transitioning to another form of directing, such as going back to wedding videos or shooting commercials. Something small time, but enough to pay the bills.
>>
>>80323030
honestly this is the greatest evidence they just dont really give a shit. if they had great ambition to become plugged into hollywood or filmmaking they would move to hollywood the way every aspiring artist does. yet theyve had what is a technically prolific screenwriter visit them instead
>>
>>80323288
I think they just enjoy coasting along with their current setup. I don't see them changing and trying anything new unless they seriously fuck something up
>>
>>80323030
I guess that's the reason, that said horror it's probably the only genre where low production values are forgiven if the idea looks interesting.

>>
>>80323388
and why fuck it up, you know? theyve got a good thing going. but at the same time, coasting on youtube fame will obviously run out, and then what? I suppose it begs the original question: what do you do when youre 50 and the youtube money dries up? Honestly i think they should just become low budget directors, theyve at least proven an ability beyond a lot of the shit tier graduates of legitimate film schools

I think that's a question for a lot of YouTube stars, but I'd say that their fame running out isn't necessarily a given. This kind of easily accessible media is a totally new thing for us, we have no idea how it will develop. Johnny Carson was on air for decades, why not RLM? Why couldn't they just do this into their 50's?

Jack makes 'viral' videos. He directed a somewhat successful campaign for beer with guys coming up with wacky ways to open a beer can. Don't think he's done much with that lately. He has kids.

Rich is a labourer by trade.

Jay just does RLM.

Mike just does RLM. Sometimes they branch out and do wedding videos if they need cash.

Wizard works in a comic shop.

with Disney and cape shit studios already planning to throw more feed in the trough for at least twenty more years it's safe to say these guys will still have a career doing what they are doing
>>
You're not thinking laterally.

The long term plan of RLM is not to transition into bigger roles in traditional media - it's to force audiences to transition towards Internet media as their primary means of entertainment.

RLM is not going anywhere. They have a winning formula with enough flexibility to evolve depending on what audiences want out of a movie reviews series.

RLM has completely disrupted traditional film criticism.

This. I'm subbed to channels with as many or more subscribers that don't get half the views on average. They might not have millions of fans, but they're loyal and watch everything they put out.

Nobody honestly cares about this shit. They'll be making videos or maybe not.

Eh, mods think it's related, they sticky every time there's a plinkett review. That's too bad for fans of other reviewers. Maybe they should stop watching garbage.

Still on YouTube. I think Mike and Jay may get some bigger projects outside the Milwaukee, maybe even Hollywood but they won't abandon RLM. And if succesfull RLM will become a real production company.
Or they're going to make some more ironic small budget movies which is fine as well.

I don't think you understand what "evidence" is. It's not a theoretical where we pretend to know what their motivations or aspirations are

>if they had great ambition to become plugged into hollywood or filmmaking they would move to hollywood the way every aspiring artist does
Maybe they have no interest in working in Hollywood. Not everyone that creates media wants to work in that system.

You seem to be of the assumption that all content creators MUST want to "make it big" in the studio system, which just isn't true.
>>
>>80313955

Complaining about Star Wars episodes they don't like as usual.
>>
They're not going to wake up one day and decide to stop going to work.

They'll quit if it ever becomes too profitable to pay their meager bills. I don't see that happening within the next five years.

If anything, they might pick up some kind of corporate sponsorship or something but they seem to be doing fine for now.
>>
>>80318487

Better they end on a high note before they fall into the fate of Doug.
>>
>>80335153

Not that guy, and I agree with what you're saying.

We simply cannot know their feelings about this because they've never been bluntly asked those questions.

However, we can infer what you posit to be true. Just by dint of how jaded they are by nearly every movie that comes out.

Further, we know that Jay and Mike could very easily just be those shithead directors that churn out 150 million dollar hits on 1 million dollar budgets. They know everything there is to know about Roger Corman, they've both got a good grip on what makes a good horror movie and what makes a shitty horror movie, and they both know how easy it would be to just fly in and scoop up that cash.

We both know that Mike's Horror Movie pitch would absolutely get picked up if he had the ear of even a shitty producer. It's completely competent, hits all the right beats, and can be made for next to nothing.

And he did it drunk, and in the span of like 10 minutes.
>>
>>80335260
Doug's videos suck but he still consistently gets more views on Nostalgia Critic episodes than RLM gets on any of their shows.
>>
>>80335308

>views mean quality

Yeah, and all those fuckin' Let's Players are just geniuses at their craft.
>>
>>80314164
The whole thing about making bad movies is something all e-critics who try to make films do. They either make some absurdist or "ironically bad" shit because they're too afraid to actually try themselves knowing they'd get shit on.

RLM fucked up though because they made their opinion on how lazy and soulless bad-on-purpose movies are not long before they then went on and did exactly that with Space-Cop.
>>
>>80335260
Doug was always terrible, he just got in the game early enough. All you need to entertain teenagers is throw in a few references and yell a lot.
>>
>>80335341
>>views mean quality
Not what I said. Views mean money.
>>
>>80335288
No.

Because >>80335412

They don't have the confidence to actually put their balls on the line and try to make something good.
>>
>>80335412

They kinda had to make Space Cop, it was an idea they had been allowing to gestate on and off for like 20 years. Rich wears proto-space cop stuff, and is called Space Cop in their really old ass VHS shorts, and then plays Space Cop with the newer stuff, then we see Space Cop multiple times in HiTB, and BoTW.

When I see Space Cop, I see a movie made by a few friends just fucking around. You should have said Feeding Frenzy, since that was literally a: "It's bad on purpose!" movie.

I think that they realized after making Feeding Frenzy, that there is a very clear divide between "bad on purpose" and "bad accidentally", which Jay and Mike both go on to reference multiple times at different points after Feeding Frenzy came out. Most recently in the Deadliest Prey movie BoTW.

I also think that they are confusing surrealist, cringe-based humor (like T&E) with "bad on purpose" based comedy.
>>
Anyone seen their "serious" movie The Recovered?
>>
>>80335519

I have to disagree: >>80335529

Also, every single one of those movies made by the other e-critics has been massive enterprises. Didn't Doug's cost over a million dollars to make or some shit?

I hate to break it to you, but RLM doesn't have that kind of money to fuck around with. They also don't have the time. They could stop doing everything they are working on right now, and begin pre-production for three to four months, then film for two months after that, and then do post-production work for a month after that, followed up by all the ancillary labor for at least another month to two months.

They've instantly burned through basically a year on a massive risk.

Now, if they could get someone to produce the movie for them?

Then yeah, sure, but if they have to fund a portion or most of it? Never going to happen in a million years.
>>
>>80335519
>They don't have the confidence to actually put their balls on the line and try to make something good.
Why do people keep saying this? Is it projection? They've made multiple feature films. None of them are "bad-on-purpose." Space Cop is just a no budget comedy. Feeding Frenzy is a straight up horror comedy. And The Recovered is a legit dramatic horror movie. Whether any of them are any good is subjective but they're definitely not Doug Walker-tier.
>>
>>80335602
We need to fund that movie to make you look like an ass.
>>
>>80335529
>You should have said Feeding Frenzy, since that was literally a: "It's bad on purpose!" movie.

Jack was working for Funny or Die at some point. He also did all the drugs, went to clown school, worked as a DJ, travelled the world shooting stuff for various companies, then went back home and became a family man. Now he does stuff with RLM and also freelances as a video editor.

>>
>>80313955
They should start organizing film festivals and moderate and host them and produce shorts and reviews on their own to entertain ppl there and to premier there. Start their own award thing. Do panels with artists, that sort of thing. Get actually involved.
>>
>>80336425
Literally what the fuck has anyone at RLM ever said or done that would give you the impression they would have any interest in that sort of thing?

>>80336469
They love movies? They direct and write their own stuff and they are entertainers and have guests.
Are you literally dense or retarded?
>>
>>80336502
RLM hates live interaction. Mike and Jay stopped doing conventions years ago because they clearly hated the experience. They've also never shown any interest whatsoever in supporting any sort of film community. They also have a disdain for self aggrandizing awards shows.
>>
>>80335947
Go fuck off, dipshit. Stop politicizing everything.

>>80313955
They will eventually realize that they need to focus on Plinkett reviews and putting more effort and budget in them. They will end up doing this on a greater scale.
Eventually there will be Mike not being able to handle the "fame" and telling the others that he is the brains behind Plinkett and that he doesn't need them and they can go fuck off.
There will be a fight over the right to use of the Plinkett character and they will go before court.
